  • We derive the arbitrary time point system size distribution of M/ $G^{B}$1 queue in which late arrivals are not allowed to join the on-going service. The distribution is given by P(z) = $P_{4}$(z) $S^{*}$ (.lambda.-.lambda.z) where $P_{4}$ (z) is the probability generating function of the queue size and $S^{*}$(.theta.) is the Laplace-Stieltjes transform of the service time distribution function. We also derive the distribution of the service siez at arbitrary point of time. time.

  • With the interest on operational efficiency due to the rapid growth of food material distribution industry and food service industry, the study adopts DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) model and examines to measure the technological, pure technical and scale efficiency those companies engaging in the food material distribution and food service business. As a result of analysis, the companies operating integrated business have relatively higher efficiency than those operating only food material distribution or food service companies while the result indicates that three efficiencies don't have significant difference depending on whether affiliated companies or not.   • Purpose - The purpose of paper is to examine into corporate value of international physical distribution, which is closely related with company that is running business based on competitive power. It is good for company to gain a competitiveness throughout activities from international physical distribution, then it increases corporate value after all. Then it will be looked at how international physical distribution can influence competitiveness of company in terms of corporate value. Research design, data, and methodology - The research method to be described is first to identify concept of international physical distribution theoretically, including characteristics and structure, and then to review corporate value of international physical distribution to make company be competitive. As far as general landscape of international logistics is concerned, it is investigated into function and role of service provider, user and market situations. However, it is well proved that current market of international physical distribution is stable and bright, which means it is possible to take foreseeable future as well. Then company can share with corporate value of international physical distribution provided from logistics service provider. Results - To achieve corporate value throughout process of international physical distribution is strongly connected with competitive status of logistics service providers, those are carriers and infrastructures, and third party logistics providers. Especially in order to inquire into competitive aspects of international physical distribution in this paper, it is focused on trade volumes and overcapacity of global shipping market. Unlike it is used to be, more optimistic and positive situation has been shown since 5 years ago from the year of 2018, which means carriers make a business well, leading company to be more competitive. Conclusions - Corporate value of company in terms of international physical distribution is closely involved with competitive situations in the physically distribution, especially shipping market, which service providers can paly a key role in this regards. It can be estimated that the more market of international physical distribution works, the more competitiveness of companies increases. Ocean carriers in shipping market of international physical distribution are doing actively business well, and the corporate value can be materialized in favor of company.

  • The automobile industry in Korea has grown to the fifth in the world in terms of production capacity. In spite of the production growth, the marketing aspects such as distribution and customer service in the auto industry are still behind the world-class. Thus, the major purposes of this paper are as follows. The first is to analyze competitive structure of the industry and to compare distribution strategies of the major auto firms(Hyundai, Daewoo, and Kia). The second is to theoretically explain the transition from the vertical marketing system to the dealer system using transaction cost analysis. The third is to compare auto distribution channels in Korea with those in the U.S. and Japan. Finally, an optimal channel stucture in the auto industry is suggested after reviewing five alternative channel structures such as corporate-owned VMS, sales-specializing firm, multiplex system(VMS+limited dealer system), dual sales channel, and advanced dealer system. In the short-run, sales-specilizing firm was suggested as an optimal channel system to enhance customer satisfaction by integrating sales and customer service. In the long-run, advanced dealer system through regional differentiation was desirable for an optimal channel structure by organically integrating new car sales, used car sales, and after service to provide total marketing service to customers.

Multichannel Strategies: A Case Study of the Korean Musical Myeongdong Romance

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to confirm that multichannel distribution strategies may be used for cultural and artistic products such as musicals, just as for general consumer goods, through a case study on the distribution strategy for a musical title. In addition, a distribution strategy for cultural and artistic products is proposed based on the analysis of the case. Research design, data, and methodology: Qualitative research methods, such as case study research and in-depth interviews, were used in this study. Results: The case study of the Korean musical Myeongdong Romance confirmed that multichannel distribution strategies may be used for musicals, including performances at theaters, Naver TV screenings (a service linked to an Internet portal), LGU+ screenings (an IPTV and OTT media service), DVD releases, and screenings of recordings of Romance Hall performances. Conclusion: For cultural and artistic products such as musicals, distribution channels can be diversified to incorporate the simultaneous use of multiple channels. New cases involving other cultural and artistic products and services to which this distribution strategy is applicable may be identified, and the strategy may be implemented along with new technologies to reduce costs further.

The Impact of COVID-19 on Earnings Management in the Distribution and Service Industries

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate whether distribution and service companies maintained their accounting information quality and provided reliable information despite the economic changes occurring after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Korea. The distribution industry has enjoyed increased demand as many companies expanded their untact distribution channels, including to online sales. However, as the pandemic drags on, their future prospects remain uncertain. Research design, data, and methodology: In this study, we define 2018-2019 as the "pre COVID-19 period" and 2020 as the "post COVID-19 period." An empirical analysis was performed using a regression model that includes POST, the independent variable, indicating the post COVID-19 period, and discretionary accruals(DA), a proxy for earnings management, as a dependent variable. Results: The analysis shows that the coefficient of POST is significantly positive (+) for the dependent variable DA. This finding suggests that distribution and service companies engaged in more earnings management during the post COVID-19 period than during the pre COVID-19 period, indicating their awareness of the uncertainty of future business performance as the pandemic persists. An additional analysis confirmed that smaller companies with fewer stakeholders and higher information asymmetry tend to engage more in earnings management than larger companies.

PC Cluster based Parallel Adaptive Evolutionary Algorithm for Service Restoration of Distribution Systems

  • This paper presents an application of the parallel Adaptive Evolutionary Algorithm (AEA) to search an optimal solution of the service restoration in electric power distribution systems, which is a discrete optimization problem. The main objective of service restoration is, when a fault or overload occurs, to restore as much load as possible by transferring the de-energized load in the out of service area via network reconfiguration to the appropriate adjacent feeders at minimum operational cost without violating operating constraints. This problem has many constraints and it is very difficult to find the optimal solution because of its numerous local minima. In this investigation, a parallel AEA was developed for the service restoration of the distribution systems. In parallel AEA, a genetic algorithm (GA) and an evolution strategy (ES) in an adaptive manner are used in order to combine the merits of two different evolutionary algorithms: the global search capability of the GA and the local search capability of the ES. In the reproduction procedure, proportions of the population by GA and ES are adaptively modulated according to the fitness. After AEA operations, the best solutions of AEA processors are transferred to the neighboring processors. For parallel computing, a PC cluster system consisting of 8 PCs was developed. Each PC employs the 2 GHz Pentium IV CPU and is connected with others through switch based fast Ethernet. To show the validity of the proposed method, the developed algorithm has been tested with a practical distribution system in Korea. From the simulation results, the proposed method found the optimal service restoration strategy. The obtained results were the same as that of the explicit exhaustive search method. Also, it is found that the proposed algorithm is efficient and robust for service restoration of distribution systems in terms of solution quality, speedup, efficiency, and computation time.

The Perceived-experiential Value and Service Quality of Auto Maintenance and Repair Service

  • Purpose: This study aims to examine such relationships as the experiential value that customers respond to with regard to maintenance service by empirically revealing how the quality of auto maintenance and repair service affects both customer satisfaction and intention to reuse the same service through the Perceived-experiential Value of customers. Research design, data and methodology: The research model was designed with service qualities such as human quality, material quality, interaction quality, and system quality as independent variables, perceived-experiential value as a parameter, and service satisfaction and return visit intention as dependent variables. Through a questionnaire composed of 24 items, a total of 319 survey data from customers with the experience of using car maintenance service centers in Korea were collected and analyzed using a structural equation. Results: The material quality did not affect the customers' perceived-experiential value, whereas the interaction quality had the greatest influence. It is confirmed that human quality, interaction quality, and system quality can generate customer satisfaction and repurchase intention through the perceived-experiential value. Conclusions: The experiential value of customers can play an important medium role in improving satisfaction, with customers considering interaction quality important. Therefore, the auto maintenance and repair service should consider relationship-focused service strategies.

  • In this paper, an approximate sojourn time distribution is obtained for cyclic service systems. We consider symmetric and limited service systems in which each queue has an infinite capacity. The combined service time is defined which consists of the frame service time and server waiting time that is approximated by two cases of the uniform and exponential distributions. The approximate sojourn time distribution is obtained from the Pollaczek-Khinchine formula where the combined service time is used for the service time in the M/G/I model. And some numerical examples are given to validate the suggested approximate analysis.

How Did I Get My Order? Unveiling The Distribution Process of E-Retail in Indonesia

  • Purpose: Post-purchase service in online platforms has created an exciting focus for consumer behavior studies. This study intends to ascertain the impact of post-purchase shipping dimensions (shipping service, tracking service, return service, and customer care) on customer satisfaction and behavior intention. The authors developed a new model considering behavioral intention as the endogenous variable integrated framework of previous studies. Research Design and Methodology: The total sample is 223 respondents, selected using purposive sampling. The data collection uses Google Forms and is analyzed using AMOS Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Results: Our findings showed shipping, tracking, returns, and customer service positively impact customer satisfaction, and customer satisfaction mediates shipping, returns, and customer service on customer behavior intent. Furthermore, customer satisfaction does not affect the effect of tracking service on customer behavior intention. Conclusion: Our hypothesis of the relationship between the post-purchase dimension and customer satisfaction was supported. However, only two of our three mediating hypotheses are supported. The mediating effect of customer satisfaction on the post-purchase dimension on behavioral intention is insignificant, while their direct relationship was significant. It showed that, concerning tracking service, customer satisfaction is not a requirement for the customer to perform behavioral intention in an e-retail context.
