In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), cluster based data routing protocols have the advantages of reducing energy consumption and link maintenance cost. Unfortunately, most of clustering protocols have been designed for uniformly distributed sensor networks. However, some urgent situations do not allow thousands of sensor nodes being deployed uniformly. For example, air vehicles or balloons may take the responsibility for deploying sensor nodes hence leading a normally distributed topology. In order to improve energy efficiency in such sensor networks, in this paper, we propose a new cluster formation algorithm named DAEEC (Density Aware Energy-Efficient Clustering). In this algorithm, we define two kinds of clusters: Low Density (LD) clusters and High Density (HD) clusters. They are determined by the number of nodes participated in one cluster. During the data routing period, the HD clusters help the neighbor LD clusters to forward the sensed data to the central base station. Thus, DAEEC can distribute the energy dissipation evenly among all sensor nodes by considering the deployment density to improve network lifetime and average energy savings. Moreover, because the HD clusters are densely deployed they can work in a manner of our former algorithm EEVAR (Energy Efficient Variable Area Routing Protocol) to save energy. According to the performance analysis result, DAEEC outperforms the conventional data routing schemes in terms of energy consumption and network lifetime.

This research is the development of a distributed tactile sensor using PVDF film far the detection of the contact state. The prototype of the tactile sensor with 8$\times$8 taxels was fabricated using PVDF film and flexible circuitry. In the fabrication procedure, the electrode and the common electrode patterns are attached to the both side of the 28${\mu}m$ thickness PVDF film. The sensor is covered with polyester film for insulation. The signals of a contact pressure to the tactile sensor are sensed and processed in the DSP system in which the signals are digitalized and filtered. And the signals are integrated for taking the force profile. The processed signals of the output of the sensor are visualized to take the shape and force distribution of the contact object in personal computer. The usefulness of the sensor system is verified through the sensing examples.

Both simulation and physical implementation are valuable tasks in sensor network routing protocols. In this paper, we propose an efficient underground utilities monitoring method within several constraints using wireless sensor network. First, in order to physically implement protocol of network which is applied, the distributed event-based simulation, which applies an existing nesC codes of sensor network routing protocols, is implemented and analyzed. Also, we have performed the simulation and analyzed the execution results for application model of routing protocols for monitoring underground utilities in the VIPTOS(Visual Ptolemy and TinyOS) environments which combine TOSSIM and Ptolemy II based on distributed event.
In practical distributed sensing and prediction applications over wireless sensor networks (WSN), environmental sensing activities are highly dynamic because of noisy sensory information from moving source signals. The recent distributed online convex optimization frameworks have been developed as promising approaches for solving approximately stochastic learning problems over network of sensors in a distributed manner. Negligence of mobility consequence in the original distributed saddle point algorithm (DSPA) could strongly affect the convergence rate and stability of learning results. In this paper, we propose an integrated sliding windows mechanism in order to stabilize predictions and achieve better convergence rates in cooperative detection of a moving source signal scenario.

The sensor networks should be appropriately designed by applied network purpose, so that they can support proper application functions. Based on the design of suitable network model, the network lifetime can be maximized than using other general strategies which have not the consideration of specific network environments. In this paper, we propose a non-deterministic agent scheme to the mobile sink in distributed wireless sensor networks. The sensor network area can be divided into several sensor regions. Hence, to these such networks, the specified suitable scheme is requested by the applied network model to implement satisfactory network management. In this paper, we theoretically represent the proposed scheme, and provide the evaluation with the simulation results.

Direct velocity feedback (DVFB) control is known that it offers an unconditional stability with very high performance when the control strategy is applied at a point collocated sensor and actuator pair, because the sensor-actuator pair has strictly positive real (SPR) property. In this paper, two types of collocated sensor-actuator pairs are considered for practical active vibration control of a structure. They are a point collocated sensor-actuator pair and a point sensor-distributed actuator pair. Both pairs with DVFB sho robust stability and performance. It is noted that the collocated point sensor-actuator ultimately acts as a 'skyhook' damper, but the point sensor-distributed actuator pair with DVFB acts as a 'skyhook' rotational dmaper pair.ational dmaper pair.

Medical data sampled through medical sensor nodes can provide services properly only when the data are not lost even during the fault of a home health gateway. The loss of medical data can be minimized if a sensor node, in which it is expected that there are the most saving spaces, is selected after medical sensor nodes tentatively conduct local save or communicate with each other during a fault when data cannot received. Furthermore, efficient saving techniques are necessary since the cycle for sampling information is different according to the type of medical data and a space for distributed saving is different for each apparatus. So, this research suggests an efficient distributed archiving protocol (DAP) for medical data sensor nodes, each of which has a diverse sampling cycle. In order to confirm the usefulness of DAP, DAP between sensor node and gateway was designed and materialized. An experiment was conducted using the materialized program and earned a high level of recovery rate (99.3%) and of accuracy rate, which confirms that sensor nodes can play their role during a temporary fault.

In wireless sensor networks, consensus algorithms for dynamic systems may flexibly usable for their data fusion of a sensor network. In this paper, a distributed data fusion filter is implemented using an average consensus based on distributed sensor data, which is composed of some sensor nodes and a sink node to track the mean values of n sensors' data. The consensus filter resolve the problem of data fusion by a distribution Kalman filtering scheme. We showed that the consensus filter has an optimal convergence to decrease of noise propagation and fast tracking ability for input signals. In order to verify for the results of consensus filtering, we showed the output signals of sensor nodes and their filtering results, and then showed the result of the combined signal and the consensus filtering using zeegbee communication.

To detect external vibration signals on the latticed fence structure, distributed fiber optic sensor using Sagnac interferometer was fabricated and tested. The latticed structure fabricated with dimension of 170cm in width and 180cm in height, the optical fiber, 50m in length, distributed and fixed on the latticed structure. It was verified the sensitivity of the Sagnac interferometer using the PZT phase modulator. Fiber optic external vibration signal spplied to the latticed fence structure from 100Hz to several kHz. The interferometeric fiber optic sensor detected the excited vibration signal very effectively without any signal processing. The detected optical signals were compared and analyzed to the detected acclerometer signals.
