  • Recently, a new distributed grid scheme, called DS-GRID(distributed S-GRID), has been proposed to manage the location information of moving objects in a spatial network[1]. However, because DS-GRID uses uniform grid cells, it cannot handle skewed data which frequently occur in the real application. To solve this problem, we propose a dynamic distributed grid scheme which splits a grid cell dynamically based on the density of moving objects. In addition, we propose a k-nearest neighbor processing algorithm for the proposed scheme. Finally, it is shown from the performance analysis that our scheme achieves better retrieval and update performance than the DS-GRID when the moving objects are skewed.

  • Recently, advances in mobile devices and wireless communication technologies require research on various location-based services. As a result, many studies on processing k-nearest neighbor query, which is most im portant one in location-based services, have been done. Most of existing studies use pre-computation technique to improve retrieval performance by computing network distance between POIs and nodes beforehand in spatial networks. However, they have a drawback that they can not deal with effectively the update of POIs to be searched. In this paper, we propose a distributed grid scheme using S-GRID to overcome the disadvantage of the existing work as well as to manage the location information of a large number of moving objects in efficient way. In addition, we describe a k-nearest neighbor(k-NN) query processing algorithm for the proposed distributed grid scheme. Finally, we show the efficiency of our distributed grid scheme by making a performance comparison between the k-NN query processing algorithm of our scheme and that of S-GRID.

  • A power quality improvement scheme for grid connected inverters, even in the presence of the disturbances in grid voltages due to harmonic distortions and three-phase imbalance, is presented for distributed generation (DG) power systems. The control objective is to force the inverter currents to follow their references with robustness even under external disturbances in grid voltages. The proposed scheme is realized by a disturbance observer (DOB) based current control scheme. Since the uncertainty in a system can be effectively canceled out using an estimated disturbance by the DOB, the resultant system behaves like a closed-loop system consisting of a disturbance-free nominal model. For experimental verification, a 2 kVA laboratory prototype of a grid connected inverter has been built using a digital signal processor (DSP) TMS320F28335. Through comparative simulations and experimental results under grid disturbances such as harmonic distortion and imbalance, the effectiveness of the proposed DOB based current control scheme is demonstrated.

  • To improve the power quality of distributed generation (DG) systems even in the presence of distorted grid condition, dual current control scheme of a grid-connected inverter is proposed. The proposed current control scheme is achieved by decomposing the inverter state equations into the fundamental and harmonic components. The derived models are employed to design dual current controllers. The conventional PI decoupling current controller is used in the fundamental model to control the main power flow in DG systems. At the same time, the predictive control is applied in the harmonic model to suppress undesired harmonic currents to zero quickly. To decompose the voltage inputs and state variables into the fundamental and harmonic components, the fourth order band pass filter (BPF) is designed in the discrete-time domain for a digital implementation. For experimental verification, 2kVA prototype of a grid-connected inverter has been constructed using digital signal processor (DSP) TMS320F28335. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is demonstrated through comparative simulation and experimental results.

  • A new simple and effective scheme to improve power quality for a grid-connected inverter in distributed generation systems under distorted grid voltages will be presented. The proposed scheme is constructed with two controllers to regulate fundamental and harmonic components separately. In order to accomplish the proposed control scheme, the fourth order band pass filter is used to extract harmonic components from distorted gird voltages. Then, the undesired harmonic components are excellently suppressed by proportional decoupling controller. Experimental results are presented to verify the simplicity and effectiveness of proposed scheme.

  • To synchronize the distributed generation (DG) unit with the grid, the voltage sensors are generally employed to obtain the grid phase angle. This paper presents an observer-based voltage sensorless control scheme for a three-phase inverter connected to the grid through an LCL filter. The proposed control scheme consists of an augmented state observer and a feedback controller. The augmented state observer is used to estimate the grid voltages and states of the inverter system, which are then employed to determine the grid voltage angle and to construct the feedback controller. As a result of using the observer, only the grid current sensors are required to accomplish the control scheme. The simulation results are given to prove the validity of the proposed control scheme.

  • Recent development in wireless communication and mobile positioning technologies makes Location-Based Services (LBSs) popular. However, because, in the LBSs, users request a query to database servers by using their exact locations, the location information of the users can be misused by adversaries. Therefore, a mechanism for users' privacy protection is required for the safe use of LBSs by mobile users. For this, we, in this paper, propose a efficient cloaking region creation scheme using Hilbert curves in distributed grid environment, so as to protect users' privacy in LBSs. The proposed scheme generates a minimum cloaking region by analyzing the characteristic of a Hilbert curve and computing the Hilbert curve values of neighboring cells based on it, so that we may create a cloaking region to satisfy K-anonymity. In addition, to reduce network communication cost, we make use of a distributed hash table structure, called Chord. Finally, we show from our performance analysis that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing grid-based cloaking method.

  • In distributed generation systems, a grid-connected inverter should operate with synchronization to grid voltage. Considering that synchronization requires the phase angle of grid voltage, a phase locked loop (PLL) scheme is often used. The synchronous reference frame phase locked loop (SRF-PLL) is generally known to provide reasonable performance under ideal grid voltage. However, this scheme indicates performance degradation under the harmonic distorted or unbalanced grid voltage condition. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a phase and harmonic detection method of grid voltage using fast Fourier transform (FFT). To reduce the calculation time of FFT algorithm, minimum sampling data is taken from the voltage measurement to determine the phase angle and the magnitude of harmonic components. An experimental test setup for a grid-connected inverter system has been constructed. By comparative simulations and experiments under various abnormal grid voltage conditions, the proposed scheme has been proven to effectively track the phase angle of the grid voltage.

  • The high penetration level of inverter-based distributed generation (DG) power plants is challenging the low-voltage ride-through requirements, especially under unbalanced voltage sags. Recently, a flexible injection of both positive- (PS) and negative-sequence (NS) reactive currents has been suggested for the next generation of grid codes. This can enhance the ancillary services for voltage support at the point of common coupling (PCC). In light of this, considering distant grid faults that occur in a mainly inductive grid, this paper proposes a complete voltage support control scheme for the interface inverters of medium or high-rated DG power plants. The first contribution is the development of a reactive current reference generator combining PS and NS, with a feature to increase the PS voltage and simultaneously decrease the NS voltage, to mitigate voltage imbalance. The second contribution is the design of a voltage support control loop with two flexible PCC voltage set points, which can ensure continuous operation within the limits required in grid codes. In addition, a current saturation strategy is also considered for deep voltage sags to avoid overcurrent protection. Finally, simulation and experimental results are presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

  • Recently, due to the advanced technologies of mobile devices and wireless communication, there are many studies on telematics and LBS(location-based service) applications. because moving objects usually move on spatial networks, their locations are updated frequently, leading to the degradation of retrieval performance. To manage the frequent updates of moving objects' locations in an efficient way, a new distributed grid scheme, called DS-GRID (distributed S-GRID), and k-NN(k-nearest neighbor) query processing algorithm was proposed[1]. However, the result of k-NN query processing technique may be invalidated as the location of query and moving objects are changed. Therefore, it is necessary to study on continuous k-NN query processing algorithm. In this paper, we propose both MCE-CKNN and MBP(Monitoring in Border Point)-CKNN algorithmss are S-GRID. The MCE-CKNN algorithm splits a query route into sub-routes based on cell and seproves retrieval performance by processing query in parallel way by. In addition, the MBP-CKNN algorithm stores POIs from the border points of each grid cells and seproves retrieval performance by decreasing the number of accesses to the adjacent cells. Finally, it is shown from the performance analysis that our CKNN algorithms achieves 15-53% better retrieval performance than the Kolahdouzan's algorithm.
