  • Wireless sensor networks (WSN) can be more reliable and easier to program and use with the help of sensor database management systems (SDMS). SDMS establish a user-friendly SQL-based interface to process declarative user-defined queries over sensor readings from WSN. Typical queries in SDMS are ad-hoc snapshot queries and long-running, continuous queries. In SDMSs queries are flooded to all nodes in the sensor net, and query results are sent back from nodes that have qualified results to a base station. For query flooding to all nodes, and result flooding to the base station, a lot of communication energy consuming is required. This paper suggests an efficient in-network index solution, named Distributed Information Gathering (DIG) to process range queries in a sensor net environment that can save energy by reducing query and result flooding.

  • In distributed spatial database systems, users nay issue a query that joins two relations stored at different sites. The sheer volume and complexity of spatial data bring out expensive CPU and I/O costs during the spatial join processing. This paper shows a new spatial join method which joins two spatial relation in a parallel way. Firstly, the initial join operation is divided into two distinct ones by partitioning one of two participating relations based on the region. This two join operations are assigned to each sites and executed simultaneously. Finally, each intermediate result sets from the two join operations are merged to an ultimate result set. This method reduces the number of spatial objects participating in the spatial operations. It also reduces the scope and the number of scanning spatial indices. And it does not materialize the temporary results by implementing the join algebra operators using the iterator. The performance test shows that this join method can lead to efficient use in terms of buffer and disk by narrowing down the joining region and decreasing the number of spatial objects.

  • Due to the evolution of computer systems and the proliferation of Internet, numerous information resources have been constructed. The deluge of information makes the need to integrate information, which are distributed on the internet and are handled in heterogeneous systems. Recently, most of the XML -based information integration systems use XML DTD(Document Type Definition) for describing integrated global schema. However, DTD has some limitations in modeling local information resources such as datatypes. Although W3C's XML Schema is more flexible and powerful than XML DTD in specifying integrated global schema, it has more complex problems in resolving conflicts than using DTD. In this paper, we provide a taxonomy of conflict problems in integration information resources using XML Schema, and propose conflict resolution mechanism using XQuery.

  • The objective of this research is to develop a formal framework and methodology to facilitate real-time data integration, thus enabling semantic interoperability among distributed and heterogeneous information systems. The proposed approach is based on the concepts of "ontology" and "semantic mediators." An ontology is developed and used to capture the intension (including structure, integrity rules and meta-properties) of the database schema. We also develop the agent communication protocol for semantic reconciliation, which is based on the theory of speech acts and agent communication language. This protocol is used by a set of semantic mediators, which automatically detect and resolve various semantic conflicts at the data- and schema-levels by referring to the ontology. A mediation-based query processing technique is developed to provide uniform and integrated access to the multiple heterogeneous information sources. Prototype tools are being implemented to provide proof of concept for this work.

  • The material analysis of an offshore structure is generally conducted in the contract design phase for the price quotation of a new offshore project. This analysis is conducted manually by an engineer, which is time-consuming and can lead to inaccurate results, because the data size from previous projects is too large, and there are so many materials to consider. In this study, the piping materials in an offshore structure are analyzed for contract design using a big data framework. The big data technologies used include HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System) for data saving, Hive and HBase for the database to handle the saved data, Spark and Kylin for data processing, and Zeppelin for user interface and visualization. The analyzed results show that the proposed big data framework can reduce the efforts put toward contract design in the estimation of the piping material cost.

  • Recently, DDS (Distributed Database System) has been often implemented on VAN (Value Added Network) as we know the amazing expansion of information network. DDS can yield significant cost and response time advantages over centrailzed systems for geographically distributed organizations. However, inappropriate design can result in high cost and poor response time. In a DDS design, the main problem is 1) how to select proper computer, and 2) how to allocate data fragment into proper nodes. This paper addresses DDS design problem of selecting the proper class of computers and the allocating data files on VAN. Also, the formulated model includes tow objectives, the operating and investment cost. GA (Genetic Algorithm) is developed to solve this mathematical formulation. A numerical experiment shows that the proposed method arrives at a good solution.

  • As a large number of distributed systems becoming more popular, interoperability, portability and security are becoming major concerns of modern computing. CORBA and object-oriented database which provide transparency of network and database are increasingly being used as the basis for distributed system to solve these problems. The two methods can help accomplish assurance of security by using a method-based access control technique or an attribute-based access control technique. These methods also enhance the unavailability or inefficiency caused by the delay of access process and bottleneck of the network due to the complex instance-based access control. We propose a security model on the type information based access control system that can enhance both security and availability by separating the functions delivered from CORBA and object-oriented databases. We apply the access control model specifically to enhancement of security system and also perform a test to verify the security and availability of our model.

  • Recently, most of global enterprises have geographically distributed organization, thus have distributed information systems which have distributed database systems. So, it is difficult for these systems to provide common views for the application programs of end users. One of solutions to solve these difficulties is an MDBS(Multidatabase System) A method to effectively implement MDBS is a schema integration. This paper proposes a methodology for a schema integration through extraction of common similar subschemas Our methodology is consisted of 5 phases : affinity analysis, extraction of similar subschemas, decision of imtegration order, resolution of semantic conflict, and schema integration. To verify the usability of our methodology, a case study is implemented with an object of MDBS. At a result, our approach can effectively be applied to the extraction of common similar subschemas and schema integration.

  • Organizations design and operate business process models to achieve their goals efficiently and systematically. With the advancement of IT technology, the number of items that computer systems can participate in and the process becomes huge and complicated. This phenomenon created a more complex and subdivide flow of business process. The process instances that contain workcase and events are larger and have more data. This is an essential resource for process mining and is used directly in model discovery, analysis, and improvement of processes. This event log is getting bigger and broader, which leads to problems such as capacity management and I / O load in management of existing row level program or management through a relational database. In this paper, as the event log becomes big data, we have found the problem of management limit based on the existing original file or relational database. Design and apply schemes to archive and analyze large event logs through Hadoop, an open source distributed file system, and HBase, a NoSQL database system.
