Improvement of OPW-TR Algorithm for Compressing GPS Trajectory Data

  • Massive volumes of GPS trajectory data bring challenges to storage and processing. These issues can be addressed by compression algorithm which can reduce the size of the trajectory data. A key requirement for GPS trajectory compression algorithm is to reduce the size of the trajectory data while minimizing the loss of information. Synchronized Euclidean distance (SED) as an important error measure is adopted by most of the existing algorithms. In order to further reduce the SED error, an improved algorithm for open window time ratio (OPW-TR) called local optimum open window time ratio (LO-OPW-TR) is proposed. In order to make SED error smaller, the anchor points are selected by calculating point's accumulated synchronized Euclidean distance (ASED). A variety of error metrics are used for the algorithm evaluation. The experimental results show that the errors of our algorithm are smaller than the existing algorithms in terms of SED and speed errors under the same compression ratio.

Design and Implementation of Depth Image Based Real-Time Human Detection

  • This paper presents the design and implementation of a pipelined architecture and a method for real-time human detection using depth image from a Time-of-Flight (ToF) camera. In the proposed method, we use Euclidean Distance Transform (EDT) in order to extract human body location, and we then use the 1D, 2D scanning window in order to extract human joint location. The EDT-based human extraction method is robust against noise. In addition, the 1D, 2D scanning window helps extracting human joint locations easily from a distance image. The proposed method is designed using Verilog HDL (Hardware Description Language) as the dedicated hardware architecture based on pipeline architecture. We implement the dedicated hardware architecture on a Xilinx Virtex6 LX750 Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA). The FPGA implementation can run 80 MHz of maximum operating frequency and show over 60fps of processing performance in the QVGA ($320{\times}240$) resolution depth image.

  • Vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET), a kind of mobile ad-hoc network (MANET), is a key technology for building intelligent transportation system (ITS). VANET is automatically and temporarily established through vehicle-to-vehicle communication without network infrastructure. It has the characteristics that frequent changes of network topology and node density are occurred and messages are disseminated through several relay nodes in the network. Due to frequent change of network topology and node density, however, VANET requires an effective relay node selection scheme to disseminate messages through the multi-hop broadcast. In this paper, we propose a contention window based multi-hop broadcast scheme for VANET. Each node has an optimized contention window and competes with each other for a relay node. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme has a better performance than the distance-based deterministic broadcast scheme in terms of message propagation delay and network traffic.

Random Backoff Scheme of Emergency Warning Message for Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communications (차량 간 통신에서 충돌을 완화하기 위한 랜덤 백오프 방안)

  • In this paper, we propose a random backoff scheme for Emergency Warning Messages (EWMs) in the vehicle-to-vehicle environment. The EWMs are disseminated from a vehicle that detects an emergency situation to other vehicles in a multi-hop fashion. Since the vehicle-to-vehicle communication based on IEEE 802.11 adapts CSMA/CA, the density of vehicles increase the probability of collisions between transmissions. Moreover, in the presence of background traffic, the EWM should have a higher priority than that of other messages in neighboring vehicles. To that end, we propose the Distant-Dependent Adaptive Backoff (DDAB) scheme, which set a different contention window for random backoff depending on the distance from the sender to the receiver. In the case when a vehicle is expected to located in the outskirts of the communication boundary, the proposed scheme makes the contention window size small in order to compete the background traffic transmission. Otherwise the contention window is set to a large number to reduce the collision possibility among the EWM transmissions. Via simulations, we show that the proposed scheme performs better than the previous schemes for EWM.

  • A high speed digital distance relaying algorithm based on a Wavelet Transformation is proposed. To obtain stable phasor values very quickly, first, a lowpass filter which has low cutoff frequency is used. Secondly, db2(Daubechies 2) Wavelet which has the data window of 4 samples is used. A FIR filter which removes the DC-offset component in current relaying signals is applied. In accordance with a series of tests, the operation time of the relaying algorithm is less than 3/4 cycles after faults in a 80 [km], 154[kV], 60[Hz] over-head transmission line system.

  • A method to focus the object in camera system by applying the Hill climb algorithm from optical lens moving device (VCM; Voice coil motor) is proposed. The focusing algorithm from VCM is focus on the object but in these criteria is a well-known drawback; the focus is good only at same distance objects but the focus is bad (blur image) at different distance objects because of the DOF (Depth of focus) or DOF (Depth of field) at the optical characteristic. Here, the new camera system that describes the Reflector of free curvature systems (or Diffractive Fresnel lens) and the partition of focusing window area is proposed. The method to improve the focus in all areas (different distance objects) is proposed by new optical system (discrete auto in-focus) using the Reflector of free curvature systems (or Diffractive Fresnel lens) and by applying the partition of all areas. The proposal is able to obtain good focus in all areas.

  • This paper proposes a new distance relaying method based on fault initiated travelling waves for transmission line protection. The characteristics of this method are ultra high speed and excellent sensitivity. Travelling wave technique which is one of the distance relaying methods uses the discrete cross correlation function for discrimination between internal and external fault is remarkably reduced in case of a close up fault and an inception angle near or equal to zero fault. To cope with this problem, a new fast algorithm which uses backward wave summation method with fixed window is presented. The proposed method has been tested by numerical simulations using the EMTP.

Study of the Acceptable Tolerances of a Window Hermetic Optical Connector (Window 밀폐형 광 커넥터의 허용 공차에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a study is conducted on the acceptable tolerance of an alignment device to reduce the optical loss caused by the alignment tolerance of a window hermetic optical connector. To increase the transmission distance of optical signals and fiber-optic communication systems, it is necessary to maintain and improve the high optical efficiency of the connectors used to bond optical fibers. In the case of the window hermetic optical connector, the optical system is aligned through an alignment device. At this time, since the two connectors are used together, each component is fixed, and further alignment is impossible. The alignment tolerance of the housing system and pin used to align the optical system of the connector causes optical loss, leading to serious problems in the fiber-optic communication system. Thus, to find the acceptable tolerance required for manufacturing the optical-connector alignment device, tolerance analysis is performed on the components of the optical connector, such as the ball lens and the window. We also implement single-mode and multimode optical-connector systems, respectively. Based on the results, we determine an acceptable tolerance value for the alignment device.

  • In this paper, we propose a data model and a retrieval method for content-based video query After partitioning a video into frame sets of same length which is called video-window, each video-window can be mapped to a point in a multidimensional space. A video can be represented a trajectory by connection of neighboring video-window in a multidimensional space. The similarity between two video-windows is defined as the euclidean distance of two points in multidimensional space, and the similarity between two video segments of arbitrary length is obtained by comparing corresponding trajectory. A new retrieval method with filtering and refinement step if developed, which return correct results and makes retrieval speed increase by 4.7 times approximately in comparison to a method without filtering and refinement step.

Estimation on the Interior and Outside Aircraft Noise Level of Residential House (주거용 건물의 실내.외 항공기소음레벨 평가)

  • It is important to increase the sound proof performance of building for reducing the influence of aircraft noise on the bais of actual survey of existed buildings. The purpose of this study is to propose the basic data for designing sound insulation of residential house. In this study, field measurement of aircraft noise Interior and outside noise level difference were carried out for 7 days in 2 residential houses. As the result, aircraft noise levels showed to be Leq $71.8{\sim}74.5$dB(A), WECPNL $82.2{\sim}83.4$ and indoor noise level were NC-55 ${\sim}63$ over acceptable NC-30 in 2 measured houses. Noise reduction effect showed to be $15.8{\sim}23.1$dB(A) in measured houses, and houses with double window were preferable to those with single window in sound proof performance. The outside sound pressure level for residential house was a little different according to the type of source. In measuring by using aircraft noise it was effected by angle and distance from measuring point, to aircraft, window area, and sound absorption of room, and so on.
