A Study on the Measuring Method of Ice Slurry Viscosity Using the Falling Sphere Viscometer (낙구식 점도계를 이용한 아이스슬러리의 점도측정에 관한 연구)

  • The present study has dealt with the measuring method of ice slurry viscosity using falling sphere viscometer. The experimental apparatus was composed by test section and high-speed video system. And the spheres used in this study were alumina and glass. The main parameters were ice packing factor (IPF) and falling velocity of sphere so the acquired results were discussed for these parameters. The viscosity of ice slurry was calculated by using measured falling velocity and moving distance at instantaneous time and the Stokes hypothesis was used for this calculation. It was clarified that possible measuring range was $IPF\;=\;0.06{\sim}0.14$ of this type of measuring device and measuring method. In addition, it was clarified that the viscosity of ice slurry increased to increase of ice packing factor (IPF) of ice slurry.

Relative Error Analysis for Measuring Value of Ground Resistance according to Position Variation of Potential Probe) (전위보조전극의 위치변화에 따른 접지저항 측정값의 상대오차분석)

  • In this paper, the effects of the position and the angle of the potential probes on the measurements of the ground resistance with the fall-of-potential method are described and the testing techniques to minimize the measuring errors are proposed. The fall-of-potential method is theoretically based on the potential and current measuring principle and the measuring error is primarily caused by the position and angle of auxiliary probes. In order to analyze the relative error for measuring value of ground resistance due to the position of the potential probe, ground resistance were measured in case that the distance of current probe was fixed at 50[m] and the distance of potential probe was located from l0[m] to 50[m]. Also, the potential probe was located at 30[$^{\circ}$], 45[$^{\circ}$], 60[$^{\circ}$], 90[$^{\circ}$] and 180[$^{\circ}$]. As a consequence, relative error decreased with increasing the distance of potential probe and decreasing the angle between current probe and potential probe. The results could be help to determine the position of potential probe when the ground resistance was measured at grounding system.

  • In conducting indoor positioning by code division multiple access using spread spectrum ultrasonic waves, it is required to detect signals under the influence of near-far problem occurred by difference on signal power, caused by distance between transmitter and receiver. For discussing robustness to the problem, we verified measuring accuracy on distance from an experiment on a real space with a hardware device where our proposed method is mounted. The proposed method performs automatic signal detection by setting threshold level dynamically. As an experimental result, measurable distance were improved by the proposed method, and measurement errors were up to 50mm in distances from 1000mm to 6000mm; therefore, enough accuracy to realize self-localization or navigation for autonomous mobile robot or human was obtained.

  • This paper presents position error for the robot localization system using the ultrasonic wave. The distance between the receiver and a beacon can be computed by using the difference between times of flight. The distance information measured by ultrasonic wave has errors. The position is calculated by distances, and this error is caused by distance errors. The position error is different from receiver¡s position. And the position is also calculated by beacon location. This paper calculates worst case position error within measuring area, and finds beacons location to reduce the position error.

  • The main function of the Forward Vehicle Collision Warning System (FVCWS) is to warn a driver when he or she experiences dangerous situations caused by a forward vehicle. Warning distance algorithms under same dangerous circumstances are often various depending on automobile manufacturers and component suppliers. Human factors also should be considered to warn the driver at an adequate warning distance. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a system for evaluating the pertinent warning timing in an identically dangerous situation. The system consists of sensors for measuring speed and acceleration of subject vehicle and target vehicle, controllers to follow the velocity profile properly, and wireless telecommunication equipments for receiving or transmitting the measured data in a real-time. According to actual field tests, it is shown that the developed system is suitable to evaluate warning distance of FVCWS.

  • In this study, on-line measuring system were developed to verify performances and characteristics of electric braking system that is used in KTX(Korea Train eXpress) synthetically and efficiently Because KTX is commercial vehicle, effective measurement and evaluation of measuring signals were performed beyond the range of change for equipment components. KRRI(Korea Railroad Research Institute) described about running-braking measuring program, running-braking backup program and running-braking analysis program that were developed using a software called LabVIEW in this paper. Also, we analyzed the characteristics comparing experimental values with design values about braking distance, braking time, negative acceleration and braking effort in rheostatic braking and regenerative braking. In result, main performances and characteristics for electric braking system in KTX were verified.

  • An Anti-lock Brake System ABS is developed to increase the stability of vehicle and to reduce the stopping distance when braking manoeuvres by measuring the wheel and vehicle speed. An ABS mathematical model which describes the dynamics of vehicle and calculate the stopping distance, is explained in this paper. To proceed this study, a mathematical model is produced with simulink software package. Although the model considered here is relatively simple, it retains the essential dynamics of the system.   • In this research, a vertical alignment analysis algorithm was developed. The developed algorithm used acquired data from a vehicle with multiple sensors such as a global positioning system (GPS) an inertial navigation system (INS), and a distance measuring unit (DMI) to collect information about vehicle position and altitude. The vertical alignment analysis algorithm includes the identification of vertical tangent sections, the beginning and ending points of vertical curves, and the calculation of length of vortical curves. Also, the algorithm can help build models for vertical tangent sections and vertical curve sections. In order to verify the algorithm, a field survey was conducted at an actual highway section and the result of the field survey was compared to a highway CAD drawing.

  • The purpose of the study is to develop a scale for measuring learning outcomes in the distance teacher training programs. In order to develop the measurement instrument, the forty-four items were developed based on the literature review and ten experts' review. For data collection, a web-based survey was conducted among teachers taking a distance teacher training program at National Education Training Institute. With the data of 205 sample size from the first survey, the Exploratory Factor Analysis was conducted and seven factors were identified. In order to validate the test, the Confirmatory Factor Analysis was performed with 293 respondents from the second survey. In conclusion, this study reports the reliability and validity of a scale for learning outcomes in distance teacher training programs consisting of seven factors with 34 items; 1) system quality, 2) content quality, 3) service quality, 4) use, 5) benefit, 6) satisfaction, 7) transfer.

  • In this paper, we propose and implement the automated brightness control system using distance measuring sensor for reducing the power consumption of emotional lighting device. In order to reduce the power consumption of emotional lighting devices which express continuous color changes, the proposed device measures the distance continuously using ultrasonic sensor and by using this, it also performs PWM Dimming control. The lighting device is composed of micro controller, LED driver, ultrasonic sensor, communication module and so on. And the device performs the real time brightness control by adapting the measured distance information from ultrasonic sensor to PWM signals. From this experiment, we implement the active lighting system which minimizes unnecessary power consumption during user's absence by adapting existing energy reducing techniques.
