  • Wireless sensor networks have many sensor nodes which response sudden events in a sensor fields. Some efficient routing protocol is required in a sensor networks with mobile sink node. A data-path template is offered for the data announcement and data request from source node and sink node respectively. Sensed data are transferred from source node to sink node using short-distance calculation. Typical protocols for the wireless networks with mobile sink are TTDD(Two-Tier Data Dissemination) and CBPER(Cluster-Based Power-Efficient Routing). The porposed SPDR(Short-Path Data Routing) protocol in this paper shows more improved energy efficiencies from the result of simulations than the typical protocols.

  • This paper proposes the pedestrian navigation system which deals with subjective information. This system consists of the route setting part and the instruction generation part. The route setting part chooses the route with highest subjective satisfaction degree. The instruction generation part gives users the instructions based on the users' sensuous feeling of distance with linguistic expressions. Fuzzy measures and integrals are applied to the calculation of the satisfaction degree of the route which reflects the users' taste for routes. The instruction generation part has database of users' cognitive distance. Users' cognitive distances are expressed by fuzzy sets that correspond to linguistic terms. The system generates the instructions with linguistic terms which have the highest fitness value for the users' sensuous feeling of distance. This paper also performs subjective experiments in order to confirm the validity of the present system.

  • Blind equalization techniques have been used in broadcast and multipoint communications. In this paper, two criteria of minimizing Euclidian distance between two probability density functions (PDFs) for adaptive blind equalizers are presented. For PDF calculation, Parzen window estimator is used. One criterion is to use a set of randomly generated desired symbols at the receiver so that PDF of the generated symbols matches that of the transmitted symbols. The second method is to use a set of Dirac delta functions in place of the PDF of the transmitted symbols. From the simulation results, the proposed methods significantly outperform the constant modulus algorithm in multipath channel environments.

  • We present a fog generation algorithm in 2D images. The proposed algorithm provides a scattering model for the approximated calculation of fog density. The scattering model needs parameters of distance and altitude information. However, 2D images do not include that information, so that we calculate them from the depth information generated in an interactive manner, and estimate the scattering factor by using the scattering model. Then we generate fog effect on an input image using the scattering factor by distance-oriented selection blur and color blending. With the algorithm, we can easily create the fog-effected images and fog generated animation from 2D images.

  • Mass estimation analysis of loose-parts in pressure vessel is necessary for the structural integrity assessment of pressure boundary in nuclear power plants. Mass of loose-parts can be generally estimated from the peak values and the center frequency of impact signals. Magnitude of impact signals is, however, inevitably attenuated according to the traveling distance of the signals and depending on the frequencies. Attenuation rate must be therefore carefully compensated for the precise estimation of loose-part mass. This paper proposes a new compensation method for the attenuation rate based on Bessel function instead of Hankel function in conventional method which has a limitation of usage in near the impact location. It was verified that the suggested compensating equation based on the Bessel function can be applied to the attenuation rate calculation without any limitation.

  • In case of a line-to-ground fault at transmission lines, a portion of fault current will flow into the earth through the footings of the faulted tower causing electrical potential rise nearby the faulted tower footings. In this situation, any buried pipelines or structures nearby the faulted tower can be exposed to the electrical stress by earth potential rise. Although many research works has been conducted on this phenomena, there has been no clear answer of the required separation distance between tower footings and neary buried pipeline because of its dependancy on the soil electrical charactersics of the concerned area and the faulted system. In this paper, an analytical formula to calculate the requried sepeartion distance from the faulted tower has been derived.

  • This paper defines a concept of "protectability" for the performance evaluation of distance relay considering its sensitivity and selectivity. The paper starts from the probabilistic modeling of the errors, and based on this model, a detailed explanation of protectability calculation for each zone of the distance relay is presented. An effect of the Weighting Rate and the Measurement Deviation on the protectability evaluation is also given. By considering this effect, the optimization of relay setting can be realized. The proposed method is applied to a typical model system to show its effectiveness.

  • Because of the zero sequence mutual coupling of parallel lines, the distance calculation performed by a distance relay is incorrect. To achieve correct operation, the relay has to use not only the measured quantities of faulty line, but also the zero sequence current of healthy line. But the zero sequence current of the healthy line cannot be always measured. Therefore, we propose the neural network method to estimate the zero sequence current and the criterion to determine whether faulty line or not.

  • In parametric approach to a signature verification, it generally uses so many redundant features unsuitable for each individual signature that it causes harm, instead. This paper proposes a method of determining personalized weights of a feature set in signature verification with parametric approach by identifying the characteristics of each feature. For an individual signature, we define a degree of how difficult it is for any other person to forge the one's (called 'DFD' as the Degree of Forgery Difficulty). According to the statistical characteristics and the intuitional characteristics of each feature, the standard features are classified into four types. Four types of DFD functions are defined and applied into the distance calculation as a personalized weight factor. Using this method, the error rate of signature verification is reduced and the variation of the performance is less sensitive to the changes of decision threshold.

  • Measuring uncertainty for fuzzy sets has been carried out by calculating fuzzy entropy. Fuzzy entropy of fuzzy set is derived with the help of distance measure. The distance proportional value between the fuzzy set and the corresponding crisp set is designed as the fuzzy entropy. The usefulness is verified by proving the proposed entropy. Generally, fuzzy entropy contains the complementary characteristics that the fuzzy entropies of fuzzy set and complementary fuzzy set have the same entropies. Discrepancy that low fuzzy entropy did not guarantee the data certainty was overcome by modifying fuzzy entropy formulation. Obtained fuzzy entropy is analyzed and discussed through simple example.
