For the excavation of the rock, blast method is put into operation in most of the construction site in Korea. In comparison to other methods of excavation, blast method has many merits such as improvement in efficiency in operation, reducement of operation period, and etc. However, blast operation also creates much loss due to the blast vibration, noise, and fly rocks. Thus, in this study, we have examined main features, rock fragmentation effect and the application of plasma method the one of shallow vibration method. In this study, the attenuation exponent of blast method operated in the site was 1.39~1.40 and that of the plasma method was analysed to be 1.45~2.23. From the location where the distance between excavation location and observation location was over 15 m, most of excavation vibration were measured to be less than 0.2 kine(cm/sec), which is also the allowed standard value of sensitive buildings, such as cultural assets and computer facilities. According to the result of FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) analysis, the frequency measured through blast method in this site was 30~50 Hz and the frequency of plasma method ranges in between 30~130 Hz.

In this paper, we have evaluated BER performance of digital subscriber line(DSL) using the twisted-pair channel model by means of Semi-analytic simulation technique. As a result, it was known that the Semi-analytic simulation was proved to be a good technique because of the attenuation of 0.5dB. To keep the BER=10$\^$-7/, 4dB of E$\^$b//N$\^$0/ is needed more when the DSL length extends to 5000m, while 2dB increase of E$\^$b//N$\^$0/ is required when Nyquist frequency goes to 512kb/s with the keeping same distance. In addition, the effect by FEXT noise is serious, when the FEXT noise damping constant, k is over 10/sup-10/ in DSL length and 10$\^$-14/ in the aspect of Nyquist frequency. As the basic, results of this analysis can be used in setting in internal and external standardization of DSL system in the future.

When a high energy photon beam is used to treat lesions located in the upper respiratory air passages or in maxillary sinus, the beams often must traverse an air cavity before it reaches the lesion. Because of this traversal of air, it is not clear that the surface layers of the lesion forming the air-tumor tissue interface will be in a state of near electronic equilibrium; if they are not, underdosing of these layers could result. Although dose corrections at large distances beyond an air cavity are accountable by attenuation differences, perturbations at air-tissue interfaces are complex to measure or calculate. This problem has been investigated for 4MV and 10MV X-ray beams which are becoming widely available for radiotherapy with linear accelerator. Markus chamber was used for measurement with variouse air cavity geometries in X-ray beams. Underdosing effects occur at both the distal and proximal air cavity interface. The magnitude depended on geometry, energy, field sizes and distance from the air-tissue interfaces. As the cavity thickness increased, the central axis dose at the distal interface decreased. Increasing field size remedied the underdosing, as did the introduction of lateral walls. Fellowing a $20{\times}2{\times}2\;cm^3$\;air\;cavity,\;4{\times}4\;cm\;field\;there\;was\;an\;11.5\%\;and\;13\%\;underdose\;at\;the\;distal\;interface,\;while\;a\;20{\times}20{\times}2\;cm^3\;air\;cavity\;yielded\;a\;24\%\;and\;29\%$ loss for the 4MV and 10MV beams, respectively. The losses were slightly larger for the 10MV beams. The measurements reported here can be used to guide the development of new calculation models under non-equilibrium conditions. This situation is of clinical concern when lesions such as larynx and maxillary carcinoma beyond air cavities are irradiated.

The new type phoswich detector consisting of the ZnS(Ag) and plastic scintillator for alpha/beta-ray simultaneous counting was developed for monitoring radiological contamination inside pipes. The detection performance was estimated using the PSD (pulse shape discrimination) method as a function of distance between the scintillator and radioactive source. The attenuation of particles traveling through a thin film for preventing the detector from being contaminated was experimentally estimated. It is concluded from our investigation that the phoswich detector developed can provide a sufficient alpha/beta-ray discrimination. The application of a thin film for preventing the detector from being contaminated was proven to be feasible.

Directivity control technology of sound system is a key technology for improving sound quality. Providing a line source rather than a point source in an acoustic system can reduce the effects of attenuation interference at long distances, thereby providing high quality sound. In particular, A line-array speaker system can be used to provide coherent, high-quality sound over long distances. However, high frequencies have shorter wavelengths, so the distance between the speakers of a line array system must be shorter, but there are physical limitations. In this paper, we designed a wave guide and installed it in the speaker's compression driver to solve this problem. We measured and tested various acoustic characteristics to verify the performance of the speaker. As a result, when the line array sound system is constructed using the developed speakers, it is possible to provide a line source in all areas including the treble range, thereby achieving the same effect as a single extended source and providing high quality sound up to far distances.

In this paper, we propose diffraction-based sound control method to improve sound immersion in a virtual environment. The proposed technique can express the wave and flow of sound in a physical environment and a pattern similar to diffraction in real-time. Our approach determines whether there is an obstacle from the location of the sound source and then calculates the position of the new sound reflected and diffracted by the obstacle. Based on ray tracing, it determines whether or not it collides with an obstacle, and predicts the sound level of the agent behind the obstacle by using the vector reflected and refraction by the collision. In this process, the sound attenuation according to the distance/material is modeled by attenuating the size of the sound according to the number of reflected/refracted rays. As a result, the diffraction pattern expressed in the physics-based approach was expressed in real time, and it shows that the diffraction pattern also changes as the position of the obstacle is changed, thereby showing the result of naturally spreading the size of the sound. The proposed method restores the diffusion and diffraction characteristics of sound expressed in real life almost similarly.

To make normal operation of S-Band PSR(Primary Surveillance Radar) which are in operation near distance, Minimizing the mutual frequency interference was studied in this paper. First, the phenomenon of radar receiver was analyzed when the interference between PSR was occurred. And next, the proper S-Band Bandpass filter(BPF) was chosen to deal with the interference. And inhibition performance of BPF was verified by comparative analysis of Radar's RF reception characteristic before and after of BPF application. There is 6.4~7.7 dB passband attenuation when BPF was applied at Radar receiver. So the PSR probability of detection were compared and analyzed to check the radar detection performance was deteriorated or not, And this result proved the usefulness of this study.

Experimental tests were performed to estimate velocities of the acoustic signals through prestressed concrete beam and source locations using acoustic emission (AE) techniques. Seven AE sensors are mounted on the surface of 5m length test beam with equal spacing and using Schmidt Hammer AE events are made at 18 locations. The velocities of AE signals are estimated using the time differences of arrival times and the distances between the source locations and the AE sensor locations. In addition, using the Least Square Method, the AE source locations are re-evaluated reversely using both of the arrival times and the velocities of AE signals. Test results show the average velocity of the AE signals is about 4,000 m/sec and the velocity decreased with the increase of the distance from source locations to AE sensors due to the effect of attenuation. Based on the estimation of the source locations, it is observed that the errors of source locations are decreased when the velocities of each AE sensor are used rather than the average velocity.
Seasonal and spatial variations in the concentrations of trace elements, pH and Eh were found in a creek watershed affected by mine drainage and leachate from several waste rock dumps within the As-Pb-rich Indae mine site. Because of mining activity dating back to about 40 years ago and rupture of the waste rock dumps, this creek was heavily contaminated. Due to the influx of leachate and mine drainage, the water quality of upstream reach in this creek was characterized by largest seasonal and spatial variations in concentrations of Zn(up to $5.830 mg/{\ell}$), Cu(up to $1.333 mg/{\ell}$), Cd(up to $0.031 mg/{\ell}$) and $SO_4^{2-}$(up to $173 mg/{\ell}$), relatively acidic pH values (3.8-5.1) and highly oxidized condition. The most abundant metals in the leachate samples were in order of Zn($0.045-13.909 mg/{\ell}$), Fe($0.017-8.730mg/{\ell}$), Cu($0.010-4.154mg/{\ell}$) and Cd($n.d.-0.077mg/{\ell}$), with low pH(3.1-6.1), and high $SO_4^{2-}$(up to $310 mg/{\ell}$). The mine drainage also contained high concentrations of Zn, Cu, Cd and $SO_4^{2-}$ and remained constantly near-neutral pH values(6.5-7.0) in all the year. While the leachate and mine drainage might not affect short-term fluctuations in flow, it may significantly influence the concentrations of chemicals in the stream. The abundance and chemistry of Fe-(oxy)hydroxide within this creek indicated that the Fe-(oxy)hydroxide formation could be responsible for some removal of trace elements from the creek waters. Spatial and seasonal variations along down-stream reach of this creek were caused largely by the influx of water from uncontaminated tributaries. In addition, the trace metal concentrations in this creek have been decreased nearly down to the background level at a short distance from the discharge points without any artificial treatments after hydrologic mixing in a tributary. The nonconservative(i.e. precipitation, adsorption, oxidation, dissolution etc.) and conservative(hydrologic mixing) reactions constituted an efficient mechanism of natural attenuation which reduces considerably the transference of trace elements to rivers.

The flow rate measurements in a multi-phase flow pipeline were evaluated quantitatively by means of a clamp-on sealed radioisotope based on a cross correlation signal processing technique. The flow rates were calculated by a determination of the transit time between two sealed gamma sources by using a cross correlation function following FFT filtering, then corrected with vapor fraction in the pipeline which was measured by the ${\gamma}$-ray attenuation method. The pipeline model was manufactured by acrylic resin(ID. 8 cm, L=3.5 m, t=10 mm), and the multi-phase flow patterns were realized by an injection of compressed $N_2$ gas. Two sealed gamma sources of $^{137}Cs$ (E=0.662 MeV, ${\Gamma}$$factor=0.326\;R{\cdot}h^{-1}{\cdot}m^2{\cdot}Ci^{-1}$) of 20 mCi and 17 mCi, and radiation detectors of $2"{\times}2"$ NaI(Tl) scintillation counter (Eberline, SP-3) were used for this study. Under the given conditions(the distance between two sources: 4D(D; inner diameter), N/S ratio: $0.12{\sim}0.15$, sampling time ${\Delta}t$: 4msec), the measured flow rates showed the maximum. relative error of 1.7 % when compared to the real ones through the vapor content corrections($6.1\;%{\sim}9.2\;%$). From a subsequent experiment, it was proven that the closer the distance between the two sealed sources is, the more precise the measured flow rates are. Provided additional studies related to the selection of radioisotopes their activity, and an optimization of the experimental geometry are carried out, it is anticipated that a radioisotope application for flow rate measurements can be used as an important tool for monitoring multi-phase facilities belonging to petrochemical and refinery industries and contributes economically in the light of maintenance and control of them.
