  • Polyethylene is widely used as the insulator for power cable. To investigate the conduction mechanism for power cable insulation under ac high field, it is very important to acquire the dissipation current under actual running field. Recently, we have developed the unique system, which make possible to observe the nonlinear dissipation current waveform. In this system, to observe the nonlinear properties with high accuracy, capacitive current component is canceled by using inverse capacitive current signal instead of using the bridge circuit for canceling it. As the results of these estimations, it was found that the dissipation current will depend on not only the instantaneous value of electric field but also the time differential of applied electric field due to taking a balance between applied field and internal field. Furthermore, two large peaks of dissipation current for each half cycle were observed under certain condition. In this paper, to clarify the reason why it shows two peaks for each half cycle, the film thickness dependences of dissipation current waveforms were observed by using the three different thickness LDPE films.

  • In this paper, a high-temperature superconductor(HTS) current lead operating in current sharing mode is described. The minimum heat dissipation and the optimum safety factor(cross-sectional area) is obtained analytically for partial current sharing HTS leads. It is assumed that the current lead is in conduction cooled state, and the sheath material is the alloy of silver and gold. The reduced cross-sectional area results partial current sharing state, and consequently reduces conduction heat transfer, but the Joule heat generation is increased. The optimized HTS current lead is different from the conventional copper leads. In the copper leads, the minimum heat dissipation is obtained for the zero gradient of temperature at warm end. However, the temperature gradient at warm end is not zero when the HTS lead operates at minimum dissipation state.

We have already reported that the dissipation currents of $40\;{\mu}m$ thick LDPE film at 10 kV/mm and over 140 Hz, it starts to show nonlinearity and odd number's harmonics were getting large. To investigate the conduction mechanis ms in this region, especially space charge effect, various kinds of estimation, such as time variations of instantaneous resistivity for one cycle, FFT spectra of dissipation current waveforms and so on, has been examined. • When surges and electromagnetic pulses from lightning or power conversion devices are considered, it is desirable to evaluate grounding system performance as grounding impedance. In the case of large-sized grounding electrodes or long counterpoises, the grounding impedance is increased with increasing the frequency of injected current. The grounding impedance is increased by the inductance of grounding electrodes. This paper presents the measured results of frequency-dependent grounding impedance and impedance phase as a function of the length of counterpoises. In order to analyze the frequency-dependent grounding impedance of the counterpoises, the frequency-dependent current dissipation rates were measured and simulated by the distributed parameter circuit model reflecting the frequency-dependent relative resistivity and permittivity of soil. As a result, the ground current dissipation rate is proportional to the soil resistivity near the counterpoises in a low frequency. On the other hand, the ground current dissipation near the injection point is increased as the frequency of injected current increases. Since the high frequency ground current cannot reach the far end of long counterpoise, the grounding impedance of long counterpoise approaches that of the short one in the high frequency. The results obtained from this work could be applied in design of grounding systems.

  • An 12bit current-mode folding and interpolation analog to digital converter (ADC) with multiplied folding amplifiers is proposed in this paper. A current - mode multiplied folding amplifier is employed not only to reduced the number of reference current source, but also to decrease a power dissipation within the ADC. The designed ADC fabricated by a 0.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ n-well CMOS double metal/single poly process. The simulation result shows the power dissipation of 280㎽ with a power supply of 5V.

  • In this paper, when applying current-mode circuit design technique showing constant power dissipation none the less operation frequency, to the low power design of dynamic voltage frequency scaling, we introduce the low power current-mode circuit design technique applying MOSFET in sub-threshold region, in order to solve the problem that has large power dissipation especially on the condition of low operating frequency. BSIM 3, was used as a MOSFET model in circuit simulation. From the simulation result, the power dissipation of the current memory circuit with sub-threshold MOSFET showed $18.98{\mu}W$, which means the consumption reduction effect of 98%, compared with $900{\mu}W$ in that with strong inversion. It is confirmed that the proposed circuit design technique will be available in DVFS using a current-mode circuit design.

  • Diagnostic tests were performed on two high voltage(HV) motor stator windings. These tests included the measurement of insulation resistance, polarization index, AC current, dissipation factor($tan{\delta}$) and partial discharge(PD) magnitude. Surface contamination of HV motor stator windings has an effect on the AC current and $tan{\delta}$. When the stator windings were finished cleaning and insulation reinforcement, the increase rate of AC current(${\Delta}I$) and dissipation factor(${\Delta}tan{\delta}$) were very small compared to those before cleaning. However, the PD magnitude remained the same. These tests show that cleaning and insulation reinforcement of HV motor stator windings can reduce the insulation failure.

  • This paper presents electrical properties of Zinc Oxide(ZnO) surge arrester blocks under the power frequency AC voltages and various temperatures. The leakage current, $I_{R}-V$ curios and power dissipation for the fine and aged ZnO surge arrester blocks were measured as a function of the temperatures and applied voltages. When the temperature is increased from $50\;[^{\circ}C]$ to $150\;[^{\circ}C]$, the total leakage current significantly increased at the sane applied voltage level. Also, the resistive leakage currents and power dissipation were increased with increasing temperature. The leakage current and power dissipation of the aged ZnO arrester blocks were higher than the fine ZnO arrester blocks.

  • The possibility of an improvement in heat dissipation performance of aluminum alloy heat sink for shipboard LED luminaries through plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) was investigated. Four different PEO coatings were produced on aluminum alloy 5052 in silicate based alkaline solution by varying current density ($50{\sim}200mA/cm^2$). On voltage-time response curves, three stages were clearly distinguished at all current densities, namely an initial linear increase, slowdown of increase rate, and steady state(constant voltage). It was found that the increase in current density caused the breakdown voltage to increase. Two different surface morphologies - coralline porous structure and pancake structure - were confirmed by SEM examination. The coralline porous structure was predominant in the coatings produced at lower current densities (50 and $100mA/cm^2$) while under high current densities(150 and $200mA/cm^2$) the pancake structure became dominant. The coating thickness was measured and found to be in a range between about $13{\mu}m$ and $44{\mu}m$, showing increasing thickness with increasing current density. As a result, $100mA/cm^2$ was proposed as an effective process parameter to improve the heat dissipation performance of aluminum alloy heat sink, which could lower the LED operating temperature by about 30%.
