Pressure resistance welding is usually used to seal the connection between the cladding tube and the end plug made of zirconium alloy. The seal welded joint has a direct effect on the service performance of the fuel rod cladding structure. In this paper, the pressure resistance welded joints of zirconium alloy tube-plug structure were obtained by thermal-mechanical simulation experiments. The microstructure and microhardness of the joints were both analyzed. The effect of processing parameters on the microstructure was studied in detail. The results showed that there was no β-Zr phase observed in the joint, and no obvious element segregation. There were different types of Widmanstätten structure in the thermo-mechanically affected zone (TMAZ) and heat affected zone (HAZ) of the cladding tube and the end plug joint because of the low cooling rate. Some part of the grains in the joint grew up due to overheating. Its size was about 2.8 times that of the base metal grains. Due to the high dislocation density and texture evolution, the microhardnesses of TMAZ and HAZ were both significantly higher than that of the base metal, and the microhardness of the TMAZ was the highest. With the increasing of welding temperature, the proportion of recrystallization in TMAZ decreased, which was caused by the increasing of strain rate and dislocation annihilation.
The effect of cooling rate on the damping capacity of pure Mg was studied. Two Mg samples with different cooling rates were prepared by heat treatment at 873 K for 24 h, followed by water quenching and by furnace cooling to room temperature, respectively. The average grain sizes of the Mg samples were almost identical regardless of the cooling rate, but more twins were observed in the sample with faster cooling rate. The calculated vacancy fraction was higher in the fast cooling sample than the slow cooling one. It is noted that the fast cooling sample exhibited lower damping capacity both in the strain-amplitude independent and strain-amplitude dependent regions. Higher values of vacancy concentration and number density of twins in the fast cooling sample are considered to be responsible for the deteriorated damping capacity in the strain-amplitude independent and strain-amplitude dependent regions, respectively.

Generally, the structural material shows rate dependent behaviors, which require to constitute different strain-stress relations according to strain rates. Conventional rate- independent constitutive equations used in general purpose finite analysis programs are inadequate for dynamic finite strain problems. In this paper, a rate dependent constitutive equation for elastic-plastic material was developed. The plastic stretch rate was modeled based on slip model with dislocation velocity and density so that there is no yielding condition, and no loading conditions. Non-linear hardening rule was also introduced for finite strain. Material constants of present constitutive equation were determined by experimental data of mild steel. The constitutive equation was applied to uniaxile tension. It was appeared that the present constitutive equation well simulates rate dependent behaviors of mild steel.
Changes in microstructure and damping capacity with aging time for solutionized Mg-Al alloy have been investigated. Discontinuous ${\beta}\;(Mg_{17}Al_{12})$ precipitates form along the primary grain boundaries, the amount of which increases as the aging time increases. The hardness of the matrix with respect to aging time shows a typical "S" shape, indicating a generation of fine continuous precipitates in the matrix during the aging. The peak level of damping capacity is obtained after 1 hour of aging, over which the damping capacity becomes deteriorated continuously. The formation of optimum density of continuous ${\beta}$ precipitates with fine morphology which would act as pinning points for dislocation lines, might be responsible for the improvement of damping capacity.
In the present study, we examined the influence of prestrain on creep strength of Class M alloy(STS310S) and Class A(STS310J1TB) alloys containing precipitates. Prestrain was given by prior creep at a higher stress than the following creep stresses. Creep behaviour before and after stress change and creep rate of pre-strained specimens were compared with that of virgin specimens. Pre-straining produced the strain region where the strain rate was lower than that of a virgin specimen both for STS310J1TB and STS310S steels. The reason for this phenomenon was ascribable to the viscous motion of dislocations, the interaction between dislocations and precipitates in a STS310J1TB steel, and the interaction of dislocations with sub-boundaries in a STS310S steen which has the higher dislocation density and smaller subgrain size resulted from pre-straining at higher stress.

The effects of annealing temperature and time on mechanical properties and microstructures were studied in cold drawn pearlitic steel wires containing 0.84wt% Si. Annealing was performed from $200^{\circ}C$ to $450^{\circ}C$ with different time of 30sec, 1min, 15min and 1hr. The increase of tensile strength at low temperature was related with strain ageing. The decrease of tensile strength at high annealing temperature was related with spherodization of cementite and the occurrence of recovery of the lamellar ferrite in the pearlite. The improvement of ductility was connected with spherodization of cementite plate in pearlite and recovery process by reduction of high dislocation density at short time annealing temperature of $400^{\circ}C$.
The imperfections of LiTaO3 crystals grown from the Pt-Rh and the Ir crucible were investigated with X-ray diffraction, optical and electron microscope. The growth direction was <100>h and the plane parallel to the plane connecting two main growth ridges was (012)h which would be the main cleavage plane. The dislocation density in the specimen cut parallel to (012)h plane increased with polishing time and the inverted ferroelectric microdomains were induced based on this dislocations. Such imperfections as 180$^{\circ}$ domains, microcracks, dislocations and stacking faults. could be found in the LiTaO3 crytals. The crystal contaminated with lots of Rh form Pt-Rh crucible during the crystal growing under air atmosphere contained more imperfections. The main cleavage plane and subgrain boundary parallel to its growing axis might be the main source of reducing the mechnical strength during the wafering process.
In this study, we have investigated a high-temperature AlN nucleation layer and AlGaN epilayers on c-plane sapphire substrate by low-pressure metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (LP-MOCVD). High resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Raman scattering measurements have been exploited to study the crystal quality, surface morphology, and residual strain of the HT-AlN nucleation layer. These analyses reveal that the insertion of an LT-AlN nucleation layer can improve the crystal quality, smooth the surface morphology of the HT-AlN nucleation layer and further reduce the threading dislocation density of AlGaN epifilms. The mechanism of inserting an LT-AlN nucleation layer to enhance the optical properties of HT-AlN nucleation layer and AlGaN epifilm are discussed from the viewpoint of driving force of reaction in this paper.
Commercially pure 1050 aluminum alloy with ultra-fine grain sizes was produced by a friction stir process. The maximum temperature in the friction stir processed zone decreased almost linearly with the tool rotation speed. In the friction stir processed zone, dislocation density was very low and fine equiaxed grains were observed. The grain size decreased with tool rotation speed. It is noteworthy that, for 560 rpm, a grain size decreased to even the submicron level with only the single pass of friction stir process. These fine grains resulted in improvement in hardness of the friction stir processed zone.
This study was made of the effect of cold working on the stress corrosion cracking(SCC) of austenitlc 304 stainless steel in boiling 42% $MgCl_2$ solution. For this experiment, specimens cold-worked of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% were fabricated respectively, and then experiments of mechanical properties and stress corrosion cracking(SCC) of these specimens were carried out. The results of these experiments indicate that the maximum resistance to SCC showed at 20% of cold working degree and that the SCC susceptibility depended on the volume fraction of deformation-induced martensite by cold working and the work hardening of matrix. On the other hand, the fracture mode was changed. This phenomenon was considered that deformation-induced martensite was grown from transgranular fracture mode to intergranular fracture mode and caused by increased of dislocation density along the slip planes.
