  • This study is a descriptive research study to verify the relationship between social presence, cognitive presence, and online learning satisfaction, and to identify factors that influence online learning satisfaction of nursing students who experienced Asynchronous Online Discussion Activities. The study was conducted in December, 2020 for two months, and the participants were 93 grade 4 nursing students attending universities nationwide. The t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression analysis were run on the collected data. There was a significant positive correlation between nursing students' social presence, cognitive presence, and online learning satisfaction. Online learning satisfaction had a positive effect on social presence. The explanatory power of online learning satisfaction was 62.9%. Based on the above results, in order to increase online learning satisfaction, a plan is needed to improve nursing students' social presence for online discussion classes.

  • This qualitative research provides a situation model, which is designed for promoting learning of eigenvalue and eigenvector. This study also demonstrates the usefulness of the model through a small groups discussion. Particularly, participants of the discussion were asked to decide the numbers of milk cows in order to make constant amounts of cheese production. Through such discussions, subjects understood the notion of eigenvalue and eigenvector. This study has following implications. First of all, the present research finds significance of situation model. A situation model is useful to promote learning of mathematical notions. Subjects learn the notion of eigenvalue and eigenvector through the situation model without difficulty. In addition, this research demonstrates potentials of small groups discussion. Learners participate in discussion more actively under small group debates. Such active interaction is necessary for situation model. Moreover, this study emphasizes the role of teachers by showing that patience and encouragement of teachers promote students' feeling of achievement. The role of teachers are also important in conveying a meaning of eigenvalue and eigenvector. Therefore, this study concludes that experience of learning the notion of eigenvalue and eigenvector thorough situation model is important for teachers in future.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of discussion using newspapers on fifth grade elementary school students' academic achievement and affective characteristics related to science. Additionally, this study intended to examine students' ideas about newspaper utilization, discussion based learning and science with questionnaire. The subjects were 59 fifth grade students from two classes. NIE was used in the experimental group and traditional teaching methods in the control group. In pretest and posttest sessions, both groups were evaluated by the academic achievement test, and an affective characteristics related science test. The results of this study showed that the academic achievement of the experimental group which applied discussion using newspapers was significantly higher than that of the control group which applied traditional instruction, especially in terms of knowledge and understanding. Additionally, the results showed that discussion using newspapers had a positive effect on affective domains such as perception, interest and attendance for science classes. In particular, the post-results of the experimental group were higher than pre-results, on the other hand, those of the control group were lower than preresults in all affective domains. It appeared that students had positive thoughts about newspaper utilization, discussion based learning, and science. The half of students who had low academic achievement showed negative reactions for discussion based learning.

  • In this study, learning materials that can be applied for web-based distant learning model were developed based on the characteristics of elementary school science in which investigation skills and thinking ability are considered to be important. And the effect of students' activity in a discussion room on student's investigating and thinking ability was investigated. Through very active on-line discussion, students showed their ability to come up with new ideas and to design and implement diverse experimental methods. Especially, since all of the study tasks given to the students were aimed to utilize experimental means and tools that are so common in everyday life, shortfalls that might reside in the web-based distant learning program could be overcome and students' investigative activity might be stimulated.

  • In this modern society, the students should be able to recognize problems for themselves, and search the information which is valuable for them, and apply and utilize it. For these, we analyzed the effect of the discussion learning using the concept cartoons on the students' learning attitude and achievement. Even though there was no meaningful difference in the achievement between the experimental group and the control group, it was found that the discussion learning using the concept cartoons could be one of the ways that improve the students' problem solving ability. The fact that there was the significant affirmative effect on the students' positiveness when they were solving the problems was also found.

  • The study investigates the effects of online instructional facilitator's qualities on student performance of online class activities. The study explores the roles of instructional facilitators who may influence student performance of online class activities and their academic achievement. The study employs a set of aggregated data from 1,362 subjects and 10 facilitators who participated in multiple online classes. The results of independent samples t-test reveal that the student performance in online classes has no association with facilitators' educational background or academic degree, as well as demographic characteristics, student evaluation records and instructional achievement. The results of multiple regression analysis show that the facilitator engagement has a positive relation to the enhancement of student interaction, reading discussion messages, and the quality of discussion messages in online discussions. The results of correlation analysis show that the facilitator engagement has a positive impact on both increasing the number of reading discussion messages and enhancing the quality of discussion messages. The facilitator engagement increases the quantity of reading discussion postings and enhances the quality of discussion messages, which would be a substantial contribution to student performance by facilitators. The findings suggest that student performance and academic achievement in online classes are not independent of facilitator engagement.

  • This study is a study on applying the teaching-learning theory of education to military school education. For the purpose, the theories of constructivist, cognitive, and behavioral theories of teaching-learning theory are reviewed and applied to military school education. The application of teaching-learning theory to military school education suggested the application of constructivist, cognitive, and behavioral education methods to each core curriculum and OBC curriculum. In addition, Gagne's 9th instructional design model of teaching and learning theory was applied in school education design. Applying the teaching-learning theory of education to military, discussion of situation education is constructivist education method, L&T education is cognitive education method, mastery education is behavioral education method, teaching principle, applicable education method. Based on the teaching-learning theory presented in this study, it is expected that the design of military school education and the application of education method will achieve the goal of more effective military school education.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of small group discussion and debate emphasizing maker class on elementary school students's science learning motivation and scientific attitude. The conclusion of the study is as follows. First, it was shown that the small group discussion and debate emphasizing maker class had a statistically significant effect on elementary school students's science learning motivation. This is due to the fact that the small group discussion and debate emphasizing maker class stimulates students' interaction, which is why students are more interested in class while solving problems with their peers. Second, it was found that the small group discussion and debate emphasizing maker class had a statistically significant effect on the elementary school students' scientific attitude. This allows students to have enough opportunity to express their opinions through small group discussions and debate, and I think that because they listen to others' opinions when they make new things or make new plans, so they have been able to increase their scientific attitude continuously. Third, based on the analysis of the participant students' opinions on the small group discussion and debate emphasizing maker class, all the participants answered that they were interested in this kind of class and they want to participate in this kind of maker class again. Therefore, it is thought that the small group discussion and debate emphasizing maker class can play a big role in raising the elementary school students's science learning motivation and scientific attitude.
