  • A design method that can easily construct intelligent patient monitoring systems is proposed. To achieve the design method, the SES/MB concept and a discrete event-based logic control formalism based on a set theory is introduced. In this control paradigm the controller expects to receive confirming sensor responses to its control commands within definite time windows determined by DEVS model of the system under control. Because data to be used for rule-based symbolic reasoning are to be abstracted, several AI methods are applied the processes. These methods are applied to intelligent patient monitoring systems so that they facilitate transformation from low level raw data to high level linguistic data. Model-based system representations have advantages of reusability, extensibility, flexsibility, independent testability and encapsulation.

  • In the aftermath of the financial crisis of 2008, while numerous members of the general public lost their homes and jobs, many of the largest banks held responsible for the crisis have been successfully rescued by bailouts. In this paper, through the analysis of income inequality, unemployment, tax cuts, and bailouts, we show that the interests of the general public are different from the interests of politicians and bankers. While the small elite group of politicians and bankers could set the deregulation policies with inordinate power based on full information, most people were ignorant and unconcerned about the policies, and hence did not oppose them. Specifically, we model the credit change in the financial markets of the United States by a finite state machine, and design three local supervisors representing three groups with different interests. It is then shown that the deregulation policies were adopted according to the difference of the supervisors' powers.

  • This mixed push and pull production system defines that all stages are not ordered by either of the production systems. Some stages are ordered by a push-type production system and the other stages are ordered by a pull-type production system. A decision support system is built by using a combination of optimization program and the "tunable" SIMAN discrete-event simulation for the implementation of an optimally mixed production system. Finding this optimal system requires 6 CPU hours for the case study on a Pentium. Both the simulation and optimization model are validated with a case study of Phoenix company that manufactures transmitters. This paper uses survey from experts in this company for evaluation and validation of this system.

  • One of the components that constitute the simulation models is the state variables whose values are determined by the time related simulation process. Embedding rule-based expert systems into the simulation models should provide a systematic way of handling these time-dependent variables without distracting the essential problem solving capabilities of the expert systems which are well suited for expressing the decision making function of complex cases. The expert system, however, is inefficient in dealing with the time elapsing characteristics of target system compare to the simulation models. To solve the problem, this paper provides an interruptible inference engine whose inferencing process can be interrupted when the variables' value, which are used as the parameters of the rules, are not yet determined due to the time dependent nature of the state variables. The process is resumed when the variables are ready. The elapse of time is calculated by time-advance function of the simulation model to which the expert system has been embedded. The example modeling shown exploits the embedded interruptible inferencing capability for the controlling and monitoring of metal grating process.

  • As a way to build more efficient and intelligent container cranes for todays hub ports, communication networks are used to interconnect numerous sensors, actuators, controllers, and operator switches and consoles that are spatially distributed over a crane. Various signals such as sensor values and operator's commands are digitized and broadcast on the network instead of using separate wiring cables. This not only makes the design and manufacturing of a crane more efficient, but also easier implementation of intelligent control algorithms. This paper presents the performance evaluation of CAN(Controller Area Network), TTP(Time Triggered Protocol) and Byteflight that can be used for cranes. Through discrete event simulation, several important quantitative performance factors such as the probability of a transmission failure, average system delay (data latency) and maximum system delay have been evaluated.

  • In this paper we propose a new approach to the autonomous wall-following of wheeled mobile robots using hybrid system reference motion synthesis and generation. The hybrid system approach is in-troduced to the motion control of nonholonomic mobile robots for the indoor navigation problems. In the dis-crete event system the discrete states are defined by the user-defined constraints and the reference mo-tion commands are specified in the abstracted motions. The hybrid control system applied for the non-holonomic mobile robots can combine the motion planning and autonomous navigation with obstacle avoid-ance for the indoor navigation problem. Simulation results show that hybrid system approach is an effective method for the autonomous navigation in indoor environments.

  • The attackers on Internet-connected systems we are seeing today are more serious and technically complex than those in the past. So it is beyond the scope of amy one system to deal with the intrusions. That the multiple IDSes (Intrusion Detection System) coordinate by sharing attacker's information for the effective detection of the intrusion is the effective method for improving the intrusion detection performance. The system which uses BBA (BlackBoard Architecture) for the information sharing can be easily expanded by adding new agents and increasing the number of BB (BlackBoard) levels. Moreover the subdivided levels of blackboard enhance the sensitivity of the intrusion detection. For the simulation, security models are constructed based on the DEVS (Discrete EVent system Specification) formalism. The intrusion detection agent uses the ES (Expert System). The intrusion detection system detects the intrusions using the blackboard and the firewall responses these detection information.

3DTV 엑티브 셔터 안경을 위한 저전력 이산-사건 SoC (Low-Power Discrete-Event SoC for 3DTV Active Shutter Glasses)

  • 엑티브 셔터 안경 기반 3DTV와 페시브 편광 필터 안경 방식 3DTV의 화질 비교는 최근에 이슈로 대두되고 있다. 엑티브 셔터 안경 방식 기술이 Full-HD 3D영상 구현이 가능함에도 불구하고 스테레오 영상에 대한 동기 신호의 전송, 수신, 및 재구성 과정 중에 내부/외부 잡음 환경에 영향을 받아 3D안경에 탑재된 동기화 프로세서 칩의 오동작으로 영상 플리커가 자주 발생한다. 이러한 문제를 극복하기 위해 동기 신호에 실리는 잡음의 제거 및 오차 보정을 추가적으로 수행하는 과정이 필요하며 이로 인해 추가로 소모되는 전력이 증가하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 3DTV 엑티브 셔터 안경을 위한 동기 신호 처리 프로세서를 구현하는 저 전력 이산 사건 (Discrete-Event) 기반 SoC (DE-SoC)칩을 제안한다. 이를 위해 이벤트 적재기와 소수점 타이머 하드웨어를 구현한다. 제안한 기법을 통해 실시간으로 수신되는 동기 수신 회로 구동을 최대한 지연시킴으로써 전력을 소모하는 하드웨어를 부분을 최소화 하며 소수점 타이머를 이용하여 동기 신호 수신 부를 완전히 정지시킨 상태에서도 일정 시간 동기를 유지하는 특성을 이용하여 무선 동기 수신부의 전력소모를 줄이고 외부 잡음의 영향을 완벽하게 차단할 수 있다. 제안한 기법을 위해 약 15,000개의 로직 게이트와 1Kbytes SRAM 버퍼를 추가로 사용한다. 그럼에도 불구하고 전력 소모는 기존대비 약 20%이하로 떨어질 뿐만 아니라 TV로부터 오는 동기 신호 없이도 2시간동안 1%정도의 동기 오차를 보여준다.

  • 현대사회의 복잡다기한 문제파악과 분석을 위해 최근들어 다양한 변수를 바탕으로 하는 복잡계 분석의 도입이 활발해 지고 있다. 외래부의 공간배치에 따른 환자들의 공간인지와 사용성을 미리 예측하는 것은 질 높은 병원서비스 제공을 위해 매우 중요한 요소라 할 수 있다. 객관적 분석을 위해 노인의 질환별 표준프로그램 절차 및 분석을 위한 지표를 마련하고 히트맵 분석과 정량적 분석을 통해 대기공간의 균일성을 평가하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 요양병원을 대상으로 복잡계 분석 방법을 이용하여 진료공간 접수공간 상담공간의 배치변화에 따른 4개 대안의 대기공간 균일성을 분석하기 위해 73개의 셀을 설치하여 시뮬레이션을 구축하고 그에 따른 밀도를 도출하였다. 연구를 통하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 1)대기공간의 전체 공간밀도는 접수공간의 배치가 가장 큰 영향을 미친다. 2)검사공간과 진료공간의 확실한 분리배치가 대기공간의 균일성을 높여주는 방안이다. 3)접수공간의 위치가 입구에서 가까울수록 대기공간의 밀도균일이 커진다. 마지막으로 본 연구는 대기공간 균일성 평가에 이산사건 시뮬레이션의 적용방안에 관한 연구로서, 행위자기반모델이 공간분석 방법론으로서의 활용과 평가에 활용도를 가질 수 있음을 입증하였다.

콜드체인 시스템의 센서태그 운영 최적화를 위한 DEVS 기반 시뮬레이션 모델 (DEVS-Based Simulation Model for Optimization of Sensor-Tag Operations in Cold Chain Systems)

  • The application of radio frequency identification (RFID) sensor-tags in cold chain systems has recently received a great deal of attention. To design cold chain systems with RFID sensor-tags that minimize the initial investment and operational cost while fulfilling the functional and operational requirements, simulation study is one of the preferable and effective approaches. To simulate the possible design configurations, the individual components in a cold chain system can be extracted and implemented as a DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) model. Based on the proposed DEVS model, a new cold chain simulation model can be efficiently created by simply connecting each DEVS model around the RFID sensor-tag of interest in sequence according to the structure of the cold chain system, and then executed (or simulated) on Java programming environments by the DEVSJAVA simulator. As a result of simulation, some key performance indexes such as reliability, accuracy or timeliness can be calculated and used to choose better components or to compare different system configurations of cold chain systems.
