There are a large number of weirs installed in rivers of Korea, and these characteristics are not common in other countries. When the flow passes through a structure such as a weir, discontinuous flow occurs. In terms of numerical simulation, it affects the numerical instability due to the balance between the flow term and the source term. In order to solve these problems, many researchers used empirical formulas or numerical scheme simplification. Recently, researches have been conducted to use more accurate numerical scheme. K-River was developed to reflect the characteristics of domestic rivers and calculate the discontinuous flow more accurately. For the verification of K-River, 1) numerical experiment simulations with a bump in the bed, 2) laboratory experiment of hydraulic jump simulation, 3) real river were performed. K-River verified its applicability by simulating results similar to the exact solution and observed value in all simulations.

Recently, with rapid improvement in computer hardware and theoretical development in the field of computational fluid dynamics, high-order accurate schemes also have been applied in the realm of computational hydraulics. In this study, numerical solutions of 1D shallow water equations are presented with TVD Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin (RKDG) finite element method. The transcritical flows such as dam-break flows due to instant dam failure and transcritical flow with bottom elevation change were studied. As a formulation of approximate Riemann solver, the local Lax-Friedrichs (LLF), Roe, HLL flux schemes were employed and MUSCL slope limiter was used to eliminate unnecessary numerical oscillations. The developed model was applied to 1D dam break and transcritical flow. The results were compared to the exact solutions and experimental data.

In the regression model, Kang and Huh (2006) studied the estimation of the discontinuous variance function using the Nadaraya-Watson estimator with the squared residuals. The local linear estimator of the log-variance function, which may have the whole real number, was proposed by Huh (2013) based on the kernel weighted local-likelihood of the ${\chi}^2$-distribution. Chen et al. (2009) estimated the continuous variance function using the local linear fit with the log-squared residuals. In this paper, the estimator of the discontinuous log-variance function itself or its derivative using Chen et al. (2009)'s estimator. Numerical works investigate the performances of the estimators with simulated examples.
Rock is a heterogeneous material, which introduces complexity in the analysis of rock slopes, since both the existing discontinuities within the rock mass and the intact rock contribute to the degradation of strength. Rock failure is often catastrophic due to the brittle nature of the material, involving the sliding along structural planes and the fracturing of rock bridge. This paper proposes an advanced discretization method of rock mass based on block theory. An in-house software, GeoSMA-3D, has been developed to generate the discrete fracture network (DFN) model, considering both measured and artificial joints. Measured joints are obtained from the photogrammetry analysis on the excavation face. Statistical tools then facilitate to derive artificial joints within the rock mass. Key blocks are searched to provide guidance on potential reinforcement measures. The discretized blocky system is subsequently implemented into a discontinuous deformation analysis (DDA) code. Strength reduction technique is employed to analyze the stability of the slope, where the factor of safety can be obtained once excessive deformation of slope profile is observed. The combined analysis approach also provides the failure mode, which can be used to guide the choice of strengthening strategy if needed. Finally, an illustrated example is presented for the analysis of a rock slope of 20 m height inclined at $60^{\circ}$ using combined GeoSMA-3D and DDA calculation.
In this study, the upwind McCormack scheme is introduced to combine the advantage of McCormack scheme, the second order accuracy and simplicity, and the advantage of the upwind scheme, to be applied to the discontinuous flows. This scheme also has another advantage of treating the source terms effectively. This model is approved through applying to the discontinuous flow case with the analytical solution, and the natural river with very strong source terms. Applications of the upwind McCormack scheme developed in this paper show good agreements with the analytical solution without numerical oscillation in existing McCormack scheme. Futhermore, applications to the natural river, the lower Han river with strong variation of bed and width, also show good results in case of both steady flow and unsteady flow. The upwind McCormack scheme in this study will be used for the analysis of flow in natural rivers effectively.

A duty cycle average model is mathematically developed for an average model of buck converter employing hysteresis c control. The derived model is able to simultaneously deal with both the continuous conduction mode (CCM) and the d discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) in the time domain. Also. taking advantage of the MAST language of SABER. a t template of the proposed duty cycle average model is built for the time and frequency domain analyses. The accuracy of t this template is verified through the computer simulations.

In this study, estimation of behavioral characteristics between twin tunnels was performed through the series of laboratory experiment on the small scale tunnel model. In the model test, the experimental parameters were geological conditions, center to center distance between twin tunnels, application of discontinuous inclination. To estimated behavior of pillar and load-displacement relationship by model tests and numerical analyses.
In the majority of previous studies on deformation of seabed structures using DEM, elements of structures have been assumed that it is composed with uniform materials or received fixed wave force, despite that actual submerged structures are composed with various size materials and influenced by complicated fluid field. The goal of this study is to develop a new model for analysis of seabed structure deformation using discontinuous structures composed with various size materials. As the first phase, a model using DEM and VOF, which can compute the deformation of submerged structures composed with various size materials, such as rubble mound structures, is proposed. A model test is carried out and then the validity of the model is discussed.

This study is focused on the finding out load transfer mechanism in the ground near the tunnel during tunnel excavation in the jointed sandy ground. Laboratory model tests were performed on various cases of the overburden heights above tunnel crown, location, and degree of discontinuity planes. For model tests, a movable plate was installed in the midst of the bottom of sandy ground. This plate, moving downwards, was intended to model the stress relaxation during tunnel excavation. The load transfer was measured at the fixed separated bottom plates adjacent to the movable plate. As the result, the loosening zone and the load-transfer form around the tunnelling site were affected by the overburden height and the characteristics of discontinuous planes. And large loosening zone was developed along the discontinuous planes which were close to the tunnel.

The configuration of hierarchical wireless networks is provided to support diverse network environments. In the base station, two system state can be basically considered for the operation management so that the state transition may be occurred between active and sleep modes. Hence, to reduce energy consumption the system operation management of the low power should be considered to the base station system. In this paper we consider the analytical model of Discontinuous Reception (DRX) to investigate the system management. We provide the analysis scheme of base station system by the DRX model, and the low power factor would be investigated for the energy consumption. We also use the finite-state Markov system model that in a system state period the wireless resource request and the operation of service call arrival interval is considered to numerically analyze the performance of energy saving operations of base station.
