It is necessary to estimate the groundwater recharge rate properly to predict the demand of groundwater and to establish the plan for the development of groundwater in the future. In this paper, A small basin in Chojung area is selected to calculate the groundwater recharge rate. In the calculation, water balance analysis, SCS-CN (Soil Conservation Service-Curve Number) method. groundwater-level analysis and hydrograph of outflow analysis are applied to this area. Data of precipitation measured by Chungju climatological station for about 10 years are used for water balance analysis and SCS-CN method. For the groundwater-level analysis. variations of groundwater-level measured from the 3 test wells in 1997's are used and stage-discharge rating curves in this area for 3 years are used for the hydrograph of outflow. The recharge rate calculated by water balance is 19%, 12.95% by SCS-CN method. 16.51% by groundwater-level analysis and 10.9% by hydrograph of outflow analysis and the overall average recharge rate is about 14.84%.
Parameters for the Synthetic Unit Hydrograph(SUH) using SCS and v methods(including modified type) are derived by regression analysis of the Representative Unit Hydrograph(RUH) of 22 basins in Korea. These derived SUHs were compared with the RUHs and those of Snyder and HYMO given by the Korea Institute of Construction Technology (KICT) for selected 4 basins. In SCS method, when correlated with the lag time of SUHs based on the whole basin rather than on the riverwise basins the peak discharge(excluding Bocheng stream) is close to that of RUH. BUt the peak time given by riverwise basins agrees closer to the RUH than by the whole basins. The modified Nakayasu type SUH(excluding Wi stream) associated with lag time based on riverwise basins gives better agreements to the RUH than that of Nakayasu method. And the modified Nakayasu type SUH gives much better agreement to the RUH than that of Nakayasu method for the case of both whole and riverwise basins.
In this study, Miho stream basin(Seokhwa water level gauging station) In Geum river, Flood control main station of Geum River Flood Control Office, is selected. Hydrologic topographical informations are calculated using WMS which is hydrologic analysis software coupled with GIS Method, and flood analysis is accomplished by HEC-1 included In WMS. To calculate the effective rainfall CN values of SCS are used. Clark, Snyder and SCS methods are selected respectively to derive unit hydrograph. This study shows the applicability of GIS techniques to runoff simulation in ungauged basin by comparing with actual measured flood hydrograph. As a results, Snyder(Tulsa) method and Clark (Herby) method is suitable to Miho stream basin. But Snyder(Tulsa) method is suitable more than Clark(Herby) method. And according to the degree of urbanization, the peak discharge has increased and the peak time has tended to decrease.
THe purpose of this study is to forecast of runoff hydrographs according to rainfall event in a stream. The neural network theory as a hydrologic blackbox model is used to solve hydrological problems. The Back-Propagation(BP) algorithm by the Levenberg-Marquardt(LM) techniques and Radial Basis Function(RBF) network in Neural Network(NN) models are used. Runoff hydrograph is forecasted in Bocheongstream basin which is a IHP the representative basin. The possibility of a simulation for runoff hydrographs about unlearned stations is considered. The results show that NN models are performed to effective learning for rainfall-runoff process of hydrologic system which involves a complexity and nonliner relationships. The RBF networks consist of 2 learning steps. The first step is an unsupervised learning in hidden layer and the next step is a supervised learning in output layer. Therefore, the RBF networks could provide rather time saved in the learning step than the BP algorithm. The peak discharge both BP algorithm and RBF network model in the estimation of an unlearned are a is trended to observed values.
This study analyzed water quality data from a coniferous forest catchment in order to quantify the contributions of runoff components to stormflow, and to understand the effects of antecedent moisture conditions within catchment on the contributions of runoff components. Hydrograph separation by the twocomponent mixing model analysis was used to partition stormflow discharge into pre-event and event components for total 10 events in 2005 and 2008. To simplify the analysis, this study used single geochemical tracer with Na+. The result shows that the average contributions of event water and pre-event water were 34.8% and 65.2% of total stormflow of all 10 events, respectively. The event water contributions for each event varied from 18.8% to 47.9%. As the results of correlation analysis between event water contributions versus some storm event characteristics, 10 day antecedent rainfall and 1 day antecedent streamflow are significantly correlated with event water contributions. These results can provide insight which will contribute to understand the importance of antecedent moisture conditions in the generation of event water, and be used basic information to stormflow generation process in forest catchment.

The determination of feasible design flood is the most important to control flood damage in river management. Model parameters should be calibrated using observed discharge but due to deficiency of observed data the parameters have been adopted by engineer's empirical sense. Storage coefficient in the Clark unit hydrograph method mainly affects magnitude of peak flood. This study is to estimate the storage coefficients based on the observed rainfall-runoff events at the four stage stations in the Hantan river basin. Model calibration is the process of adjusting model parameter values until model results match historical data. An objective function which is the percent difference between the observed and computed peak flows is available for measuring the goodness-of-fit between computed and observed hydrographs. By sensitivity analysis for the storage coefficient, it has been shown that the storage coefficients affect the peak flows. The Clark parameters adopted in the River Rectification Basic Plan have been estimated through an iterative process designed to produce a hydrograph with the peak flow.
The stream morphologic characteristics of Wonju stream with small watershed are developed with a regular correlation referred to the Horton-Strahler's lows of stream order. Using Manning's formula and the discharges simulated by NWS-PC rainfallrunoff model that has been applied to the adjacent basin for model calibration and verification, the hydraulic characteristics at Wonju bridge are investigated. The peak discharge and the time to peak of unit hydrograph are analyzed by the calculated geomorphologic parameters. Rather primitive as this study is, these results are provided to be used for geomorphologic instantaneous unit hydropraph of ungaged basins including this study area. Through the reestablishment of rating curve and hydrograph with continuous field observations, the hydrologic and hydraulic characteristics of Wonju stream must be presented.
This study revealed the differences in runoff processes of granite drainage basins in Korea and Mongolia by hydrological measurements in the field. The experimental drainage basins are chosen in Korea (K-basin) and Mongolia (M-basin). Occurrence of intermittent flow in K-basin possibly implies that very quick discharge dominates. The very high runoff coefficient implies that most of effective rainfall quickly discharge by throughflow or pipeflow. The Hortonian overlandflow is thought to almost not occur because of high infiltration capacity originated by coarse grain sized soils of K- basin. Very little baseflow and high runoff coefficient also suggest that rainfall almost does not infiltrate into bedrocks in K-basin. Flood runoff coefficient in M-basin shows less than 1 %. This means that most of rainfall infiltrates or evaporates in M-basin. Runoff characteristics of constant and gradually increasing discharge imply that most of rainfall infiltrates into joint planes of bedrock and flow out from spring very slowly. The hydrograph peaks are sharp and their recession limbs steep. Very short time flood with less than 1-hour lag time in M-basin means that overland flow occurs only associating with rainfall intensity of more than 10 mm/hr. When peak lag time shows less than 1 hour for the size of drainage area of 1 to 10 km2, Hortonian overland flow causes peak discharge (Jones, 1997). The results of electric conductivity suggest that residence time in soils or weathered mantles of M-basin is longer than that of K-basin. Qucik discharge caused by throughflow and pipeflow occurs dominantly in K-basin, whereas baseflow more dominantly occur than quick discharge in M-basin. Quick discharge caused by Hortonian overlandflow only associating with rainfall intensity of more than 10 mm/hr in M-basin.

In this study, past method and recent method for flood discharge with domestic multi-purpose dams in Korea were compared and analyzed with respect to the scale of watershed. Rainfall depth, temporal distribution, effective rainfall, rainfall-runoff model, parameter estimation and base flow were selected as the principal factors affecting flood discharge and effects on flood discharge were analyzed quantitatively by using sensitivity analysis. The results showed that the flood discharges calculated by past and recent method increased and decreased with a wide range of discharge with respect to the scale of watershed. The reason for decrease of flood discharge is the exchange of temporal distribution pattern of rainfall and the principal reason for increase of flood discharge are the increase of rainfall depth by unusual weather phenomena and the difference of estimation method of parameters of unit hydrograph.
Reservoir operators and managers need to present a rational basis of determining releases for a flood event. This study divides a forecasted flood hydrograph by two parts on the basis of non-damaging discharge, which consists of one part con, trolled by non-damaging discharge and another controlled by using flood control storage of the reservoir. In case of using flood control storage, a new reservoir operation method. called TRF (Transformed Reservoir Flood) ROM, is suggested for the operating rules during a flood to consider the reservoir security as well as the operational efficiency. This paper presents an application of the methodology to the operation of a single multipurpose reservoir at the Taechong Dam during flood and the results analyzed.alyzed.
