Investigation of Fatigue Damage of the Mooring Lines for Submerged Floating Tunnels Under Irregular Waves (불규칙 파랑 중 해중 터널 계류선의 단기 피로 손상 분석)

  • As well as the strength check, fatigue life check is also mainly required for designing mooring lines of the floating structures. In general, forces which induce dynamic structural response significantly affect to fatigue design of the mooring lines. So, waves are mainly considered as the governing loading for fatigue design of the mooring lines. In this study, characteristics of the fatigue damage of the mooring lines for submerged floating tunnels (SFT) under irregular waves are investigated. For this study time domain hydrodynamic analysis is used to obtain motion of the tunnel and tension and stresses of the mooring lines under the specific environmental conditions. Also, the Rainflow-counting method, the Palmgren-Miner's rule, and S-N curves for floating offshore structures presented by DNV recommendation is applied to calculate the fatigue damage due to the fluctuating stresses. Referring to the design plactice of the tendon pipes for TLP (tension-leg platform), which is very similar structural system to SFT, it is assumed that a 100 year return period wave attacks the SFT systems during 48 hours and the fatigue damages due to the environmental loading are calculated. Following the analysis sequence, the effects of the tunnel draft, spacing and initial inclination angle of the mooring lines on the fatigue damage under the specific environmental loadings are investigated.

Effects of evacuation delay time and fire growth curve on quantitative risk for railway tunnel fire (철도터널 화재 시 피난개시시간지연 및 화재성장곡선이 정량적 위험도에 미치는 영향)

  • A quantitative risk assessment has been introduced to quantitatively evaluate fire risk as a means of performance based fire protection design in the design of railway tunnel disaster prevention facilities. However, there are insufficient studies to examine the effect of various risk factors on the risk. Therefore, in this study, the risk assessment was conducted on the model tunnel in order to examine the effects of the evacuation start time delay and the fire growth curve on the quantitative risk assessment. As a result of the analysis of the scenario, the fatalities occurred mainly when escapes in the same direction as the direction of the fire smoke movement. In addition, after the FED exceeded 0.3, the maximum fatalities occurred within 10 minutes. In the range of relatively low risk, distance between cross passages, evacuation delay time and fire growth curve were found to affect the risk, but they were found to have little effect on the condition that the risk reached the limit. Especially, in this study, it was evaluated that the evacuation delay time reduction, fire intensity and duration reduction effect were not observed when the distance between cross passages was more than 1500 m.

  • 국내 절토비탈면은 이상 기후 및 건설공사의 증대로 인해 증가하고 있는 추세이며 장마철 및 태풍으로 인해 비탈면의 붕괴로 많은 인명 및 재산피해가 발생되고 있는 실정이다. 국내에서 사용되고 있는 기존의 비탈면의 설계기준은 암반의 불연속면에 대한 조사를 실시하고는 있지만 주로 암반의 굴착난이도를 토층, 리핑암, 발파암으로 구분하여 각각의 비탈면 절취경사를 결정하여 사용하는 방법을 사용하였으며 이러한 기준은 단순히 암석의 강도를 기준으로 설정되어 있으므로 암석의 공학적 특성 즉, 암반내 불연속면 방향성, 연속성, 충진물질, 마찰각, 풍화속도 등의 영향으로 공용후 비탈면 구배의 재조정 및 보강이 빈번하다. 국내외 절토비탈면의 설계기준은 각 기관별로 산재되어 있었으며 비탈면에 대한 설계 및 시공 등에 관한 기준은 도로와 철도 설계기준에 일부 반영되어 있을 뿐 항만, 댐, 택지조성 등 기타 시설 설계기준에는 비탈면에 대한 기준이 마련되어 있지 않아 표준적인 비탈면 설계기준 및 유지관리지침이 등이 필요하였다. 이러한 문제점을 보완하기 위해 2004년부터 2006까지 한국시설안전공단, 한국도로공사, 대한주택공사가 협동으로 연구한 건설공사 비탈면 설계 시공 및 유지관리에 관한 연구의 결과로 2006년도에 "건설공사 비탈면 설계기준"이 수립되었다. 이 설계기준은 건설공사에서의 기존 상이한 기준들을 정리하고 동일화하는 작업을 수행하였으며 지반의 조사에서부터 대책공까지를 막나하여 정리하였다. 그러나 최근에 급격한 기후변화로 인한 비탈면붕괴 빈번함에 따라 과거 적용되어 왔던 이들 기준을 적용하는 경우, 특히 상부 토층 및 풍화암 구간에서 많은 설계안전율을 만족하지 못해 많은 보강을 수반해야 하는 문제가 발생되고 있어 그 원인에 대한 분석을 수행하고자 하였다. 2006년도 정리된 기준은 과거에 적용하여 온 유기시의 안전율 조건을 Fs > 1.1~1.2을 적용하였던 것을 Fs > 1.2로 통일하였으며 지하수위 조건은 지표면에 위치하도록 하였다. 지하수위 조건은 풍화암 및 토층의 경우, 과거 지표면에 -3m를 적용한 시기가 있었으나 지표면에 지하수위를 적용하는 것이 일반적인 해석방법이다. 이러한 결과의 원인을 검토해 보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 풍화암 및 토층에 적용되어 온 지반강도 정수가 과거 적용한 값보다 최근에는 작아지는 경향을 보이고 있다. 둘째, 지하수위 적용문제로 현재 지표면에 지하수위를 두어 안전율을 감소시키는 문제로 이는 최근 들어 많은 연구기관에서 강우시 간극수압의 증가에 대한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 그러나 침투수 해석은 현행 기준에도 강우의 침투를 고려한 해석을 실시하는 경우 FS > 1.3 적용하는 것으로 되어 있으나 대부분의 해석에서는 적용이 되지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 셋째, 안전율이 과거에 주로 적용된 Fs > 1.1에서 Fs > 1.2로 상향 조정되어 우기시의 설계안전율 만족시키지 못하는 문제이다. 그러므로 이러한 문제점을 개선하기 위한 검토가 필요하며 장기적으로 이에 대한 합리적인 기준을 개정하는 작업이 추후에 수행되어야 할 것으로 판단된다.

  • Nowadays, urban townhouses are being developed in various forms according to the characteristics of different regions in consideration of the trends of the housing market. Misperceiving the needs of consumers or their characteristics as a house for living, however, they often end up becoming products that are not suitable for urban life or degraded on account of reckless regional development. It is so unfortunate that such trial and error keeps being repeated. Urban townhouses are advantageous because there is no such problem as either invasion of privacy or noise from neighbors, and it is possible to have one's own garden and enlarged parking space, obtain quality of grounding, and plan unique interior and exterior design. They are also equipped with the strengths of apartment houses as well, for example, the efficiency of joint control in crime and disaster prevention or security, architecture of diaphragm walls with the separation of gates, or the planning of common space like a central square or park. Therefore, there is a great chance that they can be developed as the types of urban housing. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to establish the basic direction of developing housing products right as space for urban life and maximize the roles of urban townhouses. By understanding their spatial as well as functional elements as a house for living, this author aims to provide a guideline for housing product development to realize urban townhouses that can meet consumer needs.

Evaluation of Levee Reliability by Applying Monte Carlo Simulation (Monte Carlo 기법에 의한 하천제방의 안정성 평가)

  • The safety of levee that depends on the river flood elevation has been regarded as very important keys to build up various flood prevention systems. However, deterministic methods for computation of water surface profile cannot reflect the effect of possible inaccuracies in the input parameters. The purpose of this study is to develop a methodology of uncertainty computation of design flood level based on steady flow analysis and Monte Carlo simulation. This study addresses the uncertainty of water surface elevation by Manning's coefficients, design discharges, river cross sections and boundary condition. Monte Carlo simulation with the variations of these parameters is performed to quantify the variations of water surface elevations in a river. The proposed model has been applied to the Kumho-river. The reliability analysis was performed within 38.5 km (95 sections) reach considered the variations of the above-mentioned parameters. Overtopping risks were evaluated by comparing the elevations of the flood condition with the those of the levees. The results show that there is a necessity which will raise the levee elevation between 1 cm and 56 cm at 7 sections. The model can be used for preparing flood risk maps, flood forecasting systems and establishing flood disaster mitigation plans as well as complement of conventional levee design.

Study on the Occurrence of Tunnel Damage when a Large-scale Fault Zone Exists at the Top and Bottom of a Tunnel (대규모 단층대가 터널 상하부에 존재하는 조건에서 터널 변상 사례 연구)

  • Recently, along with the improvement of high-speed rail and road design speed, the proportion of tunnel construction work is increasing proportionally. In particular, the construction of long tunnels is rapidly increasing due to the mountainous terrain of our country. In this way, due to the trend of tunnels becoming longer, it is difficult to design and construct tunnels by avoiding fault zones. In the case of tunnel construction in mountainous areas, ground investigation is often difficult even during design due to the topographical conditions, making precise ground investigation difficult, and as a result, the upper part of the tunnel is damaged during tunnel construction. When fault zones, which are vulnerable to weathering, exist, the stability of the tunnel during excavation is directly affected by the fault zone distribution, strength characteristics, and groundwater distribution range. In particular, when a fault zone is distributed in the upper part of a tunnel, damage such as tunnel collapse and excessive displacement may occur, and in order to prevent this in advance, countermeasures must be established through analysis of similar cases. Therefore, in this study, when a large-scale fault zone exists in the upper part of a tunnel, the relationship and characteristics of damage to the tunnel structure were analyzed.

An Experimental Study on Bearing Capacity of Drilled Shaft with Mid-size (중구경 현장타설말뚝의 지지력 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This paper describes the results of bearing capacity using field loading test of pile, in order to extend the applicability of drilled shaft with mid-size, and the results were compared with the prediction results of design bearing capacity by empirical formular. The static load test result showed that the allowable bearing capacity of high pile strength was about 2.4 times higher than that of low pile strength. The dynamic load test result showed that the allowable bearing capacity of high pile strength was about 1.4 times~1.5 times higher than that of low pile strength. The comparison result of allowable bearing capacity between static and dynamic load test showed that the difference of allowable load ranged from 3% to 6% under the same settlement conditions. As a result of comparing the ultimate bearing capacity by load test and design bearing capacity, it was found that the FHWA proposed equation could be more reasonable than the other proposed equation in load sharing ratios of end bearing and skin friction.

A numerical study of the effects of the ventilation velocity on the thermal characteristics in underground utility tunnel (지하공동구 터널내 풍속 변화에 따른 열특성에 관한 수치 해석적 연구)

  • In this research, thermal design data such as heat transfer coefficient on the wall surface required for ventilation system design which is to prevent the temperature rise in the underground utility tunnel that three sides are adjoined with the ground was investigated in numerical analalysis. The numerical model has been devised including the tunnel lining of the underground utility tunnel in order to take account for the heat transfer in the tunnel walls. The air temperature in the tunnel, wall temperature, and the heating value through the wall based on heating value(117~468 kW/km) of the power cable installed in the tunnel and the wind speed in the tunnel(0.5~4.0 m/s) were calculated by CFD simulation. In addition, the wall heat transfer coefficient was computed from the results analysis, and the limit distance used to keep the air temperature in the tunnel stable was examined through the research. The convective heat transfer coefficient at the wall surface shows unstable pattern at the inlet area. However, it converges to a constant value beyond approximately 100 meter. The tunnel wall heat transfer coefficient is $3.1{\sim}9.16W/m^2^{\circ}C$ depending on the wind speed, and following is the dimensionless number:$Nu=1.081Re^{0.4927}({\mu}/{\mu}_w)^{0.14}$. This study has suggested the prediction model of temperature in the tunnel based on the thermal resistance analysis technique, and it is appraised that deviation can be used in the range of 3% estimation.

Mechanical Characteristics of Ultra High Strength Concrete with Steel Fiber Under Uniaxial Compressive Stress (강섬유로 보강된 초고강도 콘크리트의 일축압축 상태에서의 기계적 특성)

  • Design of fiber reinforced ultra-high strength concrete members should be verified with analytical or experimental methods for safety. Members with compressive strength larger than limitation of current design code usually be designed with analytical verification using stress-strain relation of concrete and reinforcements. For this purpose, mechanical characteristics of steel fiber reinforced ultra-high strength concrete were defined under uniaxial compression. Mix proportions of test specimens were based on reactive powder concrete and straight steel fibers were mixed with different volume fraction. Compressive strength of matrix were distributed from 80 MPa to 200 MPa. Effect of fiber inclusion were investigated : increase of compressive strength of concrete, elastic modulus and strain corresponding to peak stress. For the wide range application of investigation, previously tested test specimens were collected and used for investigation and estimation equation. Based on the investigation and evaluation of previous research results and estimation equation of mechanical characteristics of concrete, regression equations were suggested.

  • In this study, we propose a new method that utilizes rainfall data in and out of a basin, which is greater than 25.4mm for point rainfall or 12.7mm for areal mean rainfall respectively. From our analysis, most frequent quartile for point and areal mean rainfall were found to be the same in general for various rainfall duration intervals. From an evaluation of design rainfall per each rainfall duration distributed in time by the MOCT(Ministry of Construction and Transportation) version of Huff's method and this study, peak rainfall intensity by this study was found to be greater than the one by MOCT, but there were no consistent increase or decrease of this difference with rainfall durations. Using the distributed design rainfall per each duration by MOCT and this study, corresponding flood inflow hydrographs were simulated and compared each other. Contrary to the case of peak rainfall intensity, difference in peak flow by both methods per each rainfall duration started to increase from about 12-hr duration. Especially, the difference in peak flow was significant when critical rainfall duration was considered, and this trend was similar for peak flows of other rainfall durations. Therefore, the method proposed in this study is thought to be the effective procedure for the construction of dimensionless cumulative rainfall curve that is representative of a basin while considering time distribution characteristics for different rainfall durations.
