The haptic sense is one of the five human senses that deeply affects cognitive development and everyday lives of children and adults. Recently, researchers and developers have started active discussions and research on haptic technologies. The purpose of this paper is to explain the role of haptics in learning, review studies that have attempted to use haptic technologies to teach students, and discuss how these technologies can be applied in special education context. National and international databases were searched and analyzed using meta-analysis methods. The few studies that have been completed so far are heavily focused on math and science learning. However, haptic technology has great potentials for children with disabilities who can benefit from extra assistance from these devices in wide areas of curriculum including math, science, music, art, history, and so on.
The purpose of this research is to investigate the research trends on the clinical use of robots for children with autistic spectrum disorders. In order to understand research trends in the context of the clinical use of robots for children with ASD, recent studies on the use of robot in the educational and therapeutic intervention were examined. Critical literature review is used as research method. Recent studies of 17 articles are chosen with two filters of 1) publication years since 2009, and 2) two key-words; robot and ASD. Further, literature on research trends is scrutinized and categorized according to the kinds of robots that are used, the types of independent and dependent variables, and research methods. The result of this research indicated that recent years, the clinical use of interactive robots with children with disability has received considerable attention in light of the proven utility of educational and therapeutic intervention. Rapid progress in robotics, especially in the area of ASD, offers tremendous possibilities for innovation in treatment for children with ASD. In conclusion, this study addresses the need of further study on the implementation procedures and protocols of clinical robots that will make the adoption feasible and easy.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to suggest the strategies for improvement of home-delivered meal services for the elderly, to identify reasons for recipients to get started with the services and to evaluate the attitude, acceptability and adaptation of recipients to the services from the perspective of life context. Methods: The data was collected through face-to-face in-depth interviews with eighteen low-income elderly recipients of home-delivered meals and analyzed using a qualitative research method. Results: The results were deduced as four themes which comprised of long-term vulnerable socioeconomic contexts resulted in entry to the services, conflicting acceptability to the services, passive adaptation to taking the services, and positive practices to cope with supplement free meals or other services. The service participation was initiated because of a combination of prolonged, vulnerable socioeconomic contexts, including poverty and unexpected life events such as diseases, disability, living alone, aging and unemployment. With regard to taking the services, conflicting acceptability was observed: positive aspects including saving living cost and good quality of meals, and negative aspects including lack of a tailored service and feeling of stigma. Although the recipients needed an individualized service, they did not express their needs and demands for the services and they accepted the unavailability as an accustomed, prolonged vulnerable socioeconomic context. With regard to lack of tailored services, either self-solution such as modification of eating patterns or community-based network and services were used. Conclusions: We suggest that a system to concretely identify recipients' attitude, acceptability and adaptation for home-delivered meal services should be developed in the establishment of a tailored nutrition support system for the low-income elderly.
Objectives: After many national physical activity guidelines have established, recent changes are deep and rapid. So the major features and implication to reverse worsening Korean physical activity indicator is desprate but related knowledge and informations are few. So review of recent features and implications of new physical activity guidelines have made. Methods: National physical activity guidelines of advanced countries were searched through snowballing methods. Major features were described according to the nation. Implication were drew through discussion for Korean realitiy. Results: New Australian physical activity and sedentary behaviour guideline explicitly included sedentary behaviour. The age in the guideline expanded to early years. Canada also presented 24-hour movement guidelines to early years. The second generation of the physical activity guidelines reflects the extensive amount of new knowledge. New aspects include discussions of additional health benefits related to brain health, additional cancer sites, and fall-related injuries; immediate and longer term benefits for how people feel, function, and sleep; further benefits among older adults and people with additional chronic conditions; risks of sedentary behavior and their relationship with physical activity; elimination of the requirement for physical activity benefits to occur in bouts of at least 10 minutes; and tested strategies that can be used to get the population more active. Conclusions: The most important message from the new guidelines is that the greatest health benefits accrue by moving from no, to even small amounts of, physical activity. Multiple studies demonstrate that the steepest reduction in disease risk occurs at the lowest levels of physical activity. People need to understand that even small amounts of physical activity are beneficial and that reductions in the risk of disease and disability occur by simply getting moving. So various evidence based proven strstegies are needed in Korea including workforce training.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the understanding about speech therapy and the satisfaction of counseling about speech therapy according to the characteristics of mothers who have children with disabilities, and to devise the clinical instruction methods to provide the effective speech therapy by identifying the correlation between the two variables. Methods: This study conducted a survey for 78 mothers of children with disabilities who use speech therapy labs in university. 17 questions were composed to investigate the understanding degree about speech therapy and 24 questions were composed to investigate the satisfaction degree about speech therapy counseling. Results: First, the survey showed that mothers who have the higher education level have the higher understanding degree about language(p<0.01). Second, the survey showed that mothers who have the higher education level have the lower satisfaction degree about counseling process(p<0.5). In the view of job status, mothers who have a job have the higher satisfaction degree about counseling time(p<0.5). Third, the survey showed that in the view of mothers'understanding degree about speech therapy and satisfaction degree about counseling, mothers who have the higher understanding degree about language, speech therapy tools and speech therapy area have the higher satisfaction degree about counseling. Conclusions: This study showed the necessity to understand the subjects'needs exactly and communicate with mothers actively. In addition, the concrete and various methods should be devised in order to increase the understanding degree about speech therapy and increase the satisfaction degree of counseling about the clinical practice environment and language therapy process.

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to clearly describe research trends on health life expectancy using oral health indicators that have been published from 2010 to 2020 then suggest the direction of future research. Methods: Online academic databases in English (PubMed, Web of Science and Embase) were used to find those articles by applying a variety of keywords, including terms (adjusted life year, adjusted life expectancy, dental and oral). We identified relevant articles based on the following classification method of Mathers: (1) health gaps, (2) health expectancies. Results: Among 1,728 articles from the online databases, the final 13 studies satisfied the inclusion criteria and were selected for analysis. Health life expectancy studies indicate that research growth was recently achieved overseas. Among the literature collected in this study, 10 studies using health gap indicators yielded seven Disability-Adjusted Life Year (DALY), and three calculated Quality-Adjusted Life Year (QALY), which differed in the nature of the survey data used in the study measuring DALY and QALY. There are only three health expectancies and the number of papers were smaller than the health gap study. Conclusion: Establishing a foundation to calculate health life expectancy indicators through the development and improvement of oral health level are needed. More studies in the area of health life expectancy estimation research is based on actual prevalence and oral health-related quality of life are also needed.
The purpose of this study was to present a methodology for reconstructing the curriculum to provide appropriate music education to students with special needs in inclusive classrooms. This study presents a customizing music curriculum reconstructing model for students with special needs. This model consists of six stages: analyzing students' characteristics and educational needs, analyzing the common music curriculum and basic music curriculum, establishing specified assessment criteria for achievement standards, analyzing the music textbook for the common curriculum and basic curriculum, reorganizing educational activities in music units, and conducting differentiated music instruction. This study presents an example of the customization process and focuses on a creative music activity for students with intellectual disabilities. The current research aimed to ascertain the effectiveness of the early intervention program based on electronic games in developing the visual perception of children with intellectual disabilities within the age group of (2-5) years, using the quasi-experimental approach with one group, and the study sample consisted of (11) children with disabilities. Simple and medium intellectuals enrolled in the early intervention program at the Successful Communication Center for Day Care in Makkah Al-Mukarramah and were deliberately selected. To achieve the research objectives, the researchers prepared and applied the visual perception scale after ensuring its validity and stability. Three electronic games were also designed and applied to the sample for (17) sessions. The results showed the effectiveness of the electronic games program in developing the visual perception of children with intellectual disabilities within the age group (2-5) years and maintaining this improvement over time. Where the results showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level (α = 0.05) between the grades of the group children in the pre and post-measurements on the visual perception skills scale for children with intellectual disabilities in the post-measurement after applying the program, in favor of the post measurement. The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences at the level (α = 0.05) between the grades of the group children in the two post and follow-up measurements on the visual perception skills scale for children with intellectual disabilities in the follow-up measurement which indicates the long-term impact of the program. The researchers recommend the necessity of activating educational programs based on various electronic games to develop the visual perception of children with intellectual disabilities and employ them effectively in the educational process for children with intellectual disabilities.

The purpose of this study is to portray the phenomena of information poverty of the families of children with developmental disabilities. The focus was especially put on investigating their information needs of everyday lives and information-seeking behaviors. The sample group includes six children with developmental disabilities and their families, mainly mothers. The investigation was conducted by the participant observation and in-depth interviews. The study found out that they sought the formal information sources such as medical specialists and special agencies first with which they were not satisfied. As a result, they rather relied on informal information sources. And the information from 'the group of families of children with developmental disabilities' was thought to be the most reliable information for them. In terms of information related behaviors, the strongest information needs were regarding the children's special education, especially to the school education, and they made effort to seek reliable information. They, however, tended to passively treat their personal concerns that are not related to their disabled children. This study found out that their information poverty is in terms of the information environment, information sources and their attitude to information, and that it comes from the external(social) factors as well as internal(individual) ones.
In recent years, artistic programs considering both physical and psychological changes in old age have been implemented in various fields. These programs include participatory activities such as painting, play, singing, photography, dance, cartoon animation and so on. It is known that culture and art education programs lead people to emotional growth and social interaction. In particular, culture and art education for the elderly tends to affect positively on the quality of life. However, there are still lack of teaching methods and curriculums in the filed. It is considered that cartoon has a great potential as a teaching method of culture and art education for elderly. This study aims to discuss ways to vitalize the role of cartoon using the qualitative data of four elderly participants in culture and art education programs. The case study analyses reveled that cartoon program for the elderly not only plays a role to make their daily lives more enthusiastic but also provides a social passage to communicate to world. The Cartoon program designed for the elderly was a tool to reveal their inner world to others, and shed new light on their past memories, and long for the precious moments in life. At the same time, it was a meaningful time to lessen the depth of loneliness in old age, and even to heal their physical disability and emotional conflicts. The hardest part of drawing an cartoon was when it did not turn out as they wished. Based on the study results, the researchers explored the therapeutic usefulness of cartoon for the elderly, and discussed the ways to activate it in the field of elderly welfare.
