Comparison Study of Image Quality of Direct and Indirect Conversion Digital Mammography System (직접 및 간접변환 방식의 디지털 유방 X선 촬영시스템의 영상화질 비교 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to comprehensively compare and evaluate the characteristics of image quality for digital mammography systems which use a direct and indirect conversion detector. Three key metrics of image quality were evaluated for the direct and indirect conversion detector, the modulation transfer function (MTF), normalized noise power spectrum (NNPS), and detective quantum efficiency (DQE), which describe the resolution, noise, and signal to noise performance, respectively. DQE was calculated by using a edge phantom for MTF determination according to IEC 62220-1-2 regulation. The contrast to noise ratio (CNR) was evaluated according to guidelines offered by the Korean Institute for Accreditation of Medical Image (KIAMI). As a result, the higher MTF and DQE was measured with direct conversion detector compared to indirect conversion detector all over spatial frequency. When the average glandular dose (AGD) was the same, direct conversion detector showed higher CNR value. The direct conversion detector which has higher DQE value all over spatial frequency would provide the potential benefits for both improved image quality and lower patient dose in digital mammography system.

  • The broadband power detector for power amplitude envelope detection of the direct-conversion Six-port output signal was designed and implemented in this paper. The power detector should be linearly operated to produce the linear amplitude and phase signal for input RF signals in required broadband frequency range. The power detector should be designed under conditions of matching circuit with low VSWR, which protect unbalanced phase signal from reflection signal due to mismatch between the output port of a six-port and the input port of a power detector. The designed power detectors, which were implemented in L-band with 50 ohm matching and Ku-band with multiple LC matching circuits and isolator, respectively, were analyzed in viewpoints of the utilization as a power detector of direct conversion Six-port. The dynamic range of designed power detectors were also measured and rvaluated as a power detector of Six-port circuit.

  • Present. direct method x-ray conversion detector is studied by abroad medical instrument and country with amorphous Selenium. And we search the method for large area x-ray detector. Amorphous-Selenium based photoreceptor is widely used on the X-ray conversion materials. But amorphous-selenium based x-ray conversion detector is broken by high voltage and leakage defect point. In this paper, We investigated top-electrode distance rate to improve defect point and high voltage broken. The result to appoint to made large area x-ray conversion detector with base data.

  • The trend of Digital x-ray Detector research is to improve resolution of image and to embody large area imaging as well as dynamic moving imaging, etc. This research is divided with indirect conversion method and direct conversion method by radiation conversion process. Each conversion method has problems such as decrease of resolution from light scattering in indirect method case and not only low system stability but also difficult in dynamic moving imaging in direct method case. X-ray detector using liquid crystal has been researching to solve these problems, but it is difficulty in uniform injection of liquid crystal because of its structural properties. Therefore, this study suggests the structure which solves present problem. Also the possibility of suggested structure was investigated using simulation.

  • A simple six-port direct conversion QPSK receiver which is made up of a six-port phase correlator, a signal power detector, and I/Q channel signal de-modulator is designed and implemented in this paper. The output phase signals of six-port phase correlator are also analysed. On the basis of $90^{\circ}C$ phase relation among the six-port phase correlator output signals, the QPSK de-modulation circuit is designed by a simple circuit. The six-port phase correlator is made up of $90^{\circ}$ hybrid branch line and power detector. The six-port phase correlator, which is designed in frequency range of 11.7 to 12.0 GHz, gets the phase error characteristics less than $5^{\circ}$. By considering matching network and amplitude balance in the designed fiequency range, the designed six-port direct conversion QPSK receiver demodulates the I and Q signals with performance less than $5^{\circ}$ phase error.

  • In this paper, the power detectors using metamaterials were designed and fabricated for multi-band six-port direct conversion method. The RF short-stubs for power detector were designed by using metamaterials which provide multi-band characteristics. The power detectors with metamaterial RF short-stub were analyzed and fabricated by using lumped and distributed element. The measured results of metamaterial power detectors show the good agreement with the simulation results. The performance of lumped-metamaterial RF short-stub shows the insertion loss below 1 dB and the good frequency response characteristics. Also, the distributed-metamaterial RF short-stub shows the good frequency response characteristics and the insertion loss under that of lumped-metamaterial RF short-stub. The multi-band power detectors with metamaterial RF short-stub detect the input RF signal in the designed dual frequency bands very well.

  • 21.6" a-Si:H TFT array for direct conversion X-ray detector with 2480 by 3072 pixel is successfully developed. To obtain good X-ray image quality, novel structure, storage on BCB structure, is proposed. The structure reduces the parasitic capacitance of data line, one of the main sources of signal noise. Also, the structure shows higher failure resistance against defects than that of the old design.

  • A 21.6" a-Si:H TFT array for direct conversion X-ray detector with 2480 by 3072 pixels is successfully developed. To obtain X-ray image of satisfactory quality, a novel structure with a storage electrode on BCB is proposed. The structure reduces the parasitic capacitance of data line, which is one of the main sources of signal noise. Also, the structure shows greater resistance to failure than that of the conventional design.

  • The power-controlled six-port element that can control the local oscillator signal power and receiving RF signal power was designed and implemented in this paper. The direct conversion six-port element configuration was proposed, which provides the constant six-port output power by controlling the six-port input power with various signal strength. The direct conversion six-port element protects the power detector element of six-port receiver from the saturation status and compensates the transmission performance degradation. For implementation of power-controlled six-port element, the power-controlled six-port element including the power controller was analyzed. The implemented power-controlled six-port element shows the power control capability of 36 dB and gain imbalance of about 1.6 dB, phase imbalance of about $4^{\circ}$ in the frequency range of 1.69 GHz. The measured results show the good performance as direct conversion front-end element.

  • Digital radiographic systems allow the implementation of a fully digital picture archiving and communication system (PACS), and provide the greater dynamic range of digital detectors with possible reduction of X-ray exposure to the patient. This article reviewed the basic physical principles of digital radiographic imaging system in dental clinics generally. Digital radiography can be divided into computed radiography (CR) and direct radiography (DR). CR systems acquire digital images using phosphor storage plates (PSP) with a separate image readout process. On the other hand, DR systems convert X-rays into electrical charges by means of a direct readout process. DR systems can be further divided into direct and indirect conversion systems depending on the type of X-ray conversion. While a direct conversion requires a photoconductor that converts X-ray photons into electrical charges directly, in an indirect conversion, lightsensitive sensors such as CCD or a flat-panel detector convert visible light, proportional to the incident X-ray energy by a scintillator, into electrical charges. Indirect conversion sensors using CCD or CMOS without lens-coupling are used in intraoral radiography. CR system using PSP is mainly used in extraoral radiographic system and a linear array CCD or CR sensors, in panoramic system. Currently, the digital radiographic system is an important subject in the dental field. Most studies reported that no significant difference in diagnostic performance was found between the digital and conventional systems. To accept advances in technology and utilize benefits provided by the systems, the continuous feedback between doctors and manufacturers is essential.
