This review article summarizes results of recent viscoelastic and dielectric studies for entangled cis-polyisoprene (PI) chains. The PI chains have the so-called type-A dipoles parallel along the chain backbone, and their slow viscoelastic and dielectric relaxation processes reflect the same global chain motion. However, this motion is differently averaged in the viscoelastic and dielectric properties, the former representing the isochronal orientational anisotropy of individual entanglement segments while the latter detecting the orientational correlation of the segments at two separate times (0 and t). On the basis of this difference, the viscoelastic and dielectric data of the entangled PI chains were compared to elucidate detailed features of the chain dynamics. Specifically, the molecular picture of dynamic tube dilation (DTD) incorporated in recent models was tested for linear and star PI chain. The comparison revealed that the DTD picture was valid for linear PI chains but failed for the star PI chains in the dominant part of the terminal relaxation. The failure for the star chains was related to the pre-requisite for the DTD process, rapid equilibration of successive entanglement segments through their constraint release (CR) motion: For the star chains, the dilated tube diameter expected in the terminal regime was considerably large because of a broad distribution of motional modes of the chains, so that the CR-equilibration required for DTD could not occur in time. The terminal relaxation of the star chain appeared to occur through the CR process before the expected DTD process was completed. The situation was different for the linear chain exhibiting narrowly distributed motional modes. The dilated tube expected for the linear chain was rather thin and the required CR-equilibration occurred in time, resulting in the success of the DTD picture. These detailed features of the chain dynamics was revealed only when the viscoelastic and dielectric properties were compared, demonstrating the importance of this comparison.
The source current distribution in a heart was reconstructed from the magnetocardiogram (MCG) and its clinical usefulness was demonstrated. MCG was measured using 40-channel superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) gradiometers for a patient of Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome, which has an accessory pathway between the atria and the ventricles. Reconstruction of source current distribution in a plane below the chest surface was performed using minimum norm estimation (MNE) algorithm and truncated singular value decomposition (SVD), In the simulation, we confirmed that the current distributions. which were computed for the test dipoles, represented well the essential feature of the test current configurations, In the current map of WPW syndrome, we observed abnormal currents that would bypass the atrioventricular junction at a delta wave. However, we could not observe such currents any more after the surgery. These results showed that the obtained current distribution using MCG signals is consistent with the electrical activity in a heart and has clinical usefulness.
We developed a 37-channel magnetoencephalogram (MEG) measurement system based on low-noise superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometets, and operated the system to measure MEG signals. By using double relaxation oscillation SQUIDs with high flux-4o-voltage transfers, the SQUID outputs could be measured directly by room temperature preamplifiers and compact readout circuits were used for SQUID operation. The average field noise level of the magnetometers is about 3 fT/√Hz in the white region, low enough for MEG measurements when operated inside a magnetically shielded room. The 37 magnetometers were distributed on a hemispherical surface haying a radius of 125 mm. In addition to the 37 sensing channels. 11 reference channels were installed to pickup external noise and to form software gradiometers. A low-noise liquid helium dewar was fabricated with a liquid capacity of 30 L and boil-off rate of 4 L/d. The signal processing software consists of digital filtering, software gradiometer, isofield mapping and source localization. By using the developed system, we measured auditory-evoked fields and localized the current dipoles, demonstrating the effectiveness of the system.
The epoxy composites are prepared with mixing temperature of epoxy/montmorillonite (MMT) melt master batch and the dielectric properties of the composites are also compared with intercalation of MMT. The exfoliation mainly occurrs iii the low content of MMT composites, while in the composites with high content of MMT the interspacing distance increases as the mixing temperature of epoxy/MMT master batch is increased. Class transition temperature of the composite which the MMT are effectively exfoliated is increased with the appropriate postcuring condition. Since the orientation polarization of dipoles in the epoxy molecules is restricted by the clay nanolayers exfoliated, the dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the composites are reduced. Furthermore, the dielectric properties could be improved by controling the mixing temperature and time of epoxy/MMT master batch as well as postcuring condition.

A potential-based panel method has been developed for numerical computation of wave resistance on a hybrid hydrofoil. Hybrid hydrofoil is composed of a main body, two struts and two hydrofoils. The main body, which is assumed to be an axisymmetric body for the present analysis, is normally used to support displacement of a body with its buoyancy. Normal dipoles and the sources are distributed on the body(main body, struts, hydrofoils) and the sources are distributed on the free surface. Linearized free surface and the radiation conditions are satisfied using the fourth order finite difference operator and the semi-linear pressure Kutta condition is used for the numerical computation of the hydrofoils. Poisson type free surface condition has been used for the numerical computation and hyperboloidal panel method has been used for better numerical accuracy. To verify this numeric method, model tests are performed in circulation water channel. From the comparison of experimental results with numeric ones, the present method can be used as a useful tool for the design of high speed vessels.

A potential-based panel method is presented for the analysis of a partially or supercavitating two-dimensional hydrofoil at a finite submergence beneath a free surface, treating without approximation the effects of the finite Froude number and the hydrostatic pressure. Free surface sources and normal dipoles are distributed on the foil and cavity surfaces, their strength being determined by satisfying the kinematic and dynamic boundary conditions on the foil-cavity boundary. The cavity surface is determined iteratively as a part of the solution. Numerical results show that the wave profile is altered significantly due to the presence of the cavity. The buoyancy effect due to the hydrostatic pressure, which has usually been neglected in most of the cavitating flow analysis, is found playing an important role, especially for the supercavitating hydrofoil; the gravity field increases the cavity size in shallow submergence, but decreases it when deeply submerged, while the lift reduces at all submergence depth.

In this paper, we suggested the tolerance limits of FAR(Fully Anechoic Room) using correlation factor between OATS(Open area Test Site) to measure EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) and FAR to measure EMS(Electromagnetic Susceptibility). FAR Project(SMT4-CT96-2133), CISPR/A/665/DTR, and CISPR A/665/DTR documents are analyzed and theoretical correlation factor based on the documents and theoretical equations is drawn. To obtain the experimental correlation factor, EUT(Equipment Under Test) is fabricated as well as measured at the 10 m distance OATS and in the 3 m distance FAR. Also, to suggest the tolerance limits of EUT with multi sources, radiation theory for electric and magnetic dipoles is programmed. We drew the correlation factor for EUT with multi sources through the programs. As the tolerance limits of FAR is newly defined, It can be used alternative test site for OATS to measure EMI, efficiently.

In this paper, the bandwidth and gain enhancement of a series-fed dipole pair antenna (SDPA) using a modified balun., a director, and two parasitic patches is studied. The proposed SDPA consists of two strip dipoles with different lengths, a ground reflector, which are connected through a coplanar strip line, a director, and two parasitic patches. The modified balun is used to increase the bandwidth, whereas the director and two parasitic patches are appended to the SDPA to enhance the gain in the middle and high frequency band. A prototype of the proposed SDPA is fabricated on an FR4 substrate, and the experimental results show that the antenna has a frequency band of 1.56-3.10 GHz for a VSWR < 2, and measured gain maintains over 7 dBi in the frequency range of 1.55-3.00 GHz.

Backgrounds: MEG can measure the task-specific neurophysiologic activity with good spatial and time resolution. Language lateralization using noninvasive method has been a subject of interest in resective brain surgery. We purposed to develop a paradigm for language lateralization using MEG and validate its feasibility. Methods: Magnetic fields were obtained in 12 neurosurgical candidates and one volunteer for language tasks, with a 306 channel whole head MEG. Language tasks were word listening, reading and picture naming. We tested two word listening paradigms: semantic decision of meaning of abstract nouns, and recognition of repeated words. The subjects were instructed to silently name or read, and respond with pushing button or not. We decided language dominance according to the number of acceptable equivalent current dipoles (ECD) modeled by sequential single dipole, and the mean magnetic field strength by root mean square value, in each hemisphere. We collected clinical data including Wada test. Results: Magnetic fields evoked by word listening were generally distributed in bilateral temporoparietal areas with variable hemispheric dominance. Language tasks using visual stimuli frequently evoked magnetic field in posterior midline area, which made laterality decision difficult. Response during task resulted in more artifacts and different results depending on responding hand. Laterality decision with mean magnetic field strength was more concordant with Wada than the method with ECD number of each hemisphere. Conclusions: Word listening task without hand response is the most feasible paradigm for language lateralization using MEG. Mean magnetic field strength in each hemisphere is a proper index for hemispheric dominance.

In this paper, the bandwidth and gain enhancement of a double-dipole quasi-Yagi antenna (DDQYA) using a modified balun and two directors is studied. The proposed DDQYA consists of two strip dipoles with different lengths, a ground reflector, which are connected through a coplanar strip line, and two directors. The modified balun is used to increase the bandwidth, whereas two directors are appended to the DDQYA to enhance the gain in the middle and high frequency band. The effects of the length and width of the first director on the antenna performance are analyzed, and final design parameters to obtain a gain over 7 dBi at 1.60-2.90 GHz band are obtained. A prototype of the proposed DDQYA is fabricated on an FR4 substrate, and the experimental results show that the antenna has a frequency band of 1.57-3.00 GHz for a VSWR < 2, and measured gain ranges 7.1-7.8 dBi at 1.60-2.90 GHz band.
