PEM algorithm cannot expend repeated algorithm, if penalty function is transcendental function. However, OSL algorithm has an advantage that repeated algorithm is easily derived, even though penalty function which has a complicated transcendental function. In spite of this advantage, this algorithm is restricted in convergence region of smoothing constant which increase penalized log-likelihood, so we cannot get the optimal image restoration because it cannot provide us with a various smoothing constant value for the digital image restoration. In this paper, in order to resolve the disadvantage of OSL algorithm, we would like to suggest the algorithm with smoothing constant enlarge the tolerance limit range of convergence and to find not only properties of its convergence but also usefulness of suggested algorithm through digital image simulation.
Recently, there has been research to use portable digital camera to recognize objects in natural scene images, including labels or marks on a cylindrical surface. In many cases, text or logo in a label can be distorted by a structural movement of the object on which the label resides. Since the distortion in the label can degrade the performance of object recognition, the label should be rectified or restored from deformations. In this paper, a new method for label detection and restoration in digital images is presented. In the detection phase, the Hough transform is employed to detect two vertical boundaries of the label, and a horizontal edge profile is analyzed to detect upper-side and lower-side boundaries of the label. Then, the biquadratic transformation is used to restore the rectangular shape of the label. The proposed algorithm performs restoration of 3D objects in a 2D space, and it requires neither an auxiliary hardware such as 3D camera to construct 3D models nor a multi-camera to capture objects in different views. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
The use of synthetic resins in ceramic restoration poses several challenges, including aging and potential damage to artifacts, which has raised the need to investigate new materials and restoration methods. This study set out to incorporate full color 3D printing into the 3D digital technology-based restoration method, an emerging approach currently being researched, and to print out missing parts with color information. After examining material physical properties with an experiment, the investigator printed out missing parts from a white porcelain vessel and grayish-blue-powdered celadon plate and compared them in chromaticity and brilliance. The experimental results show that the outputs had comparable tensile strength to the original restoration materials, whereas the recorded compressive strength was approximately 1.4~2 times higher than that of the original restoration materials. According to the NIST table of color difference values, the white porcelain vessel was visible at ΔE*ab 1.55, and the grayish-blue-powdered celadon plate was perceivable at 3.34. Even though it was impossible to express the colors accurately owing to printer limitations, this non-contact approach reduced the possibility of damage to the minimum. In conclusion, it can be applied to objects with a high chance of damage or generate display effects through purposeful color differentiation in missing parts.
The virtual reality technology is currently used classifying functional types such as the observation operation type, the experimental activity type, the learning information type, the field problem-solving type, and other different types, based on the media's characteristics implementing 3D form of multi-sensory information. Using Virtual Reality, the restoration of the 'Doksu Palace' has been grafted onto J. Keller's ARCS model, suggesting a field restoration concept that reenacts the lives of the people that had been in the field with the cultural heritage and history based on a scenario based scene direction. This paper also summarizes 3 different types of implementation of the field restoration assorting multi-scene direction. Certain limitations exist, due to the fact that a completed prototype hasn't been suggested and that a detailed notion of the housing and 3D audio connection has been omitted.
Various researches are actively studied to satisfy exponentially increasing the usage of the Internet as well as the diverse service demands. Especially the Optical Internet that delivers several Tbps through a single optical fiber requires the intelligence to satisfy the various types of survivability requirements. In the paper, a novel recovery scheme that satisfies the various restoration demands in IP over WDM networks is proposed. The scheme classifies the restoration services into three classes and applies dedicated protection and shared restoration scheme with different priorities for each class. Also, a configuration scheme for information database to support the scheme is proposed. This scheme satisfies the different degree of restoration demands in terms of restoration time, blocking rate and resource usage. With the scheme, medical data can be transmitted without loss.
This study was focused on digital restoration and surface depth modeling applying the three-dimensional laser scanning system of the Haeundae Stone Inscription. Firstly, the three-dimensional digital restoration carried out acquiring of point cloud using wide range and precision scanner, thereafter registering, merging, filtering, polygon mesh and surveyed map drawing. In particular, stroke of letters, inscribed depth and definition appearing the precision scanning polygon was outstanding compared with ones of the wide range polygon. The surface depth modeling completed through separation from polygon, establishment of datum axis, selection of datum point, contour mapping and polygon merging. Also, relative inscribed depth (5~17mm) and outline by the depth modeling was well-defined compared with photograph and polygon image of the inscription stone. The digital restoration technology merging wide range and precision scanning restored the total and detailed shape of the Stone Inscription quickly and accurately. In addition, the surface depth modeling visibly showed unclear parts from naked eye and photograph. In the future, various deteriorations and surrounding environment change of the Stone Inscription will be numerically analyze by periodic monitoring.
The stone fragments that are missing from the stone cultural heritage have limited use beyond being directly fitted to identify their original position, as they are relatively heavy and bulky, and there is the further risk of secondary physical damage during manual work. Therefore, in this study, morphological relationships between the missing parts and the stone fragments were identified through digital restoration, and a three-dimensional (3D) printed replica was created for use at the exhibition for Stone Buddhas in Four Directions in Hwajeon-ri, Yesan, where 72 stone fragments had been excavated together. First, for the digital restoration, stone fragments of similar shapes were selected after the coordinates of the 3D scanning model were aligned in virtual space. In addition, the stone fragments were printed using a 3D printer to check whether they were physically related to the missing parts. Thus, the original positions of a total of nine stone fragments were identified. To utilize these research results in the exhibition, a 1:1 replica of the Stone Buddhas in Four Directions was produced using 3D printing technology, and the nine stone fragments were also restored to their original positions. The digital technology used in this study is of great importance in that it not only made up for the limitations of the direct manual method but also suggested the possibility of expanding its application to the fields of documentation, restoration, and replication of similar cultural heritage.
Images such as photos, film and documents can be difficult to interpret because of aging or noise distortion. There are various methods for restoring noise-distorted images using filters and thresholds. Regardless of the condition or type of image, the process is difficult. In this paper we propose a method of digital image processing that we developed in which a composite image is formed by blending and color mapping.

OSL algorithm has an advantage that repeated algorithm is easily derived, even though penalty function which has a complicated transcendental function. In order to solve this problem, we suggested MPEMG algorithm. However, though this algorithm extend convergence rate of smoothing constant, it include the problem that is not faster than OSL algorithm in the convergence rate increasing penalized log-likelihood. Accordingly, in this paper, we will suggest SMOSLG digital image restoration algorithm which is fast in the convergence rate as well as extend convergence region of smoothing constant. And also we will study the usefulness of algorithm suggested through digital image simulation.
