  • This Paper presents a resistive wideband fully differential low-noise amplifier (LNA) designed using a noise-cancellation technique for TV tuner applications. The front-end of the LNA employs a cascode common-gate (CG) configuration, and cross-coupled local feedback is employed between the CG and common-source (CS) stages. The moderate gain at the source of the cascode transistor in the CS stage is utilized to boost the transconductance of the cascode CG stage. This produces higher gain and lower noise figure (NF) than a conventional LNA with inductor. The NF can be further optimized by adjusting the local open-loop gain, thereby distributing the power consumption among the transistors and resistors. Finally, an optimized DC gain is obtained by designing the output resistive network. The proposed LNA, designed in SK Hynix 180 nm CMOS, exhibits improved linearity with a voltage gain of 10.7 dB, and minimum NF of 1.6-1.9 dB over a signal bandwidth of 40 MHz to 1 GHz.

  • In this paper, implementation of active noise curtains using multiple channel adaptive filters is presented. The same numbers of single channel LMS algorithms as control loudspeakers is used instead of a multi-channel LMS algorithm to reduce the computational burden of adaptive filter algorithms. In general, a multi-channel LMS algorithm is usually used in active noise control system. but this algorithm has much more computational complexity. The single channel control techniques have less amount of DSP calculation, compared to multiple channel control techniques. A stabilizing procedure for adaptive IIR filters is also proposed to improve the stability of recursive LMS algorithms. Both experimental results of two control techniques using TMS320VC33 digital signal processor show the similar noise reduction, but the single channel control techniques are more efficient in practical active noise curtain applications

  • Today, we can use radio communication device anywhere-anytime. Sometimes, we use the device in acoustic noise environment. The acoustic noise makes many problems in communication system. In acoustic noise environment, speaker cannot send clear information to receiver, because the received signal includes both speech signal and noise signal. A digital filter is useful to remove noise to get desired signal. One of methods is the adaptive digital filter using the adaptive noise canceller that automatically adjust filter parameters. This thesis addresses articulation algorithms against actual acoustic noises by means of two adaptive filtering methods. One is the adaptive noise canceller with two input channels and another is the spectral subtraction filter with one input channel. The experimental result from the proposed filter shows that the adaptive noise canceller is useful to reduce the non-stationary noises, while the spectral amplitude filter is effective for stationary noises.

  • This paper proposes a comparator structure that improves the noise and output delay of a single-slope ADC(SS-ADC) used in CMOS Image Sensor (CIS). To improve the noise and delay characteristics of the output, a comparator structure using the miller effect is designed by inserting a capacitor between the output node of the first stage and the output node of the second stage of the comparator. The proposed comparator structure improves the noise, delay of the output, and layout area by using a small capacitor. The CDS counter used in the single slop ADC is designed using a T-filp flop and bitwise inversion circuit, which improves power consumption and speed. The single-slope ADC also performs dual CDS, which combines analog correlated double sampling (CDS) and digital CDS. By performing dual CDS, image quality is improved by reducing fixed pattern noise (FPN), reset noise, and ADC error. The single-slope ADC with the proposed comparator structure is designed in a 0.18-㎛ CMOS process.

  • Mathematical morphology (MM) has been introduced as a powerful tool for studying the geometrical properties of images, MM is a good approach to digital image processing , which is based on the shape feature. The MM operators such as dilation, erosion, closing and opening have been applied successfully to image noise reduction. The MM filters can easily filter the noise when the noise factors are known. However it is very difficult to reduce the noise when images are ambiguous, because the boundary between the noise and object is vague. In this paper, we propose a new method to reduce noise from ambiguous images by using Fuzzy Mathematical Morphology (FMM) operators. Performance evaluation via simulations show that the FMM filters efficiently reduce the image noise. Furthermore, the FMM filters show a good performance compared with the conventional filters.

  • Many approaches to image restoration are aimed at removing either gauss or impulse noise. This is because both types of degradation processes are distinct in nature, and hence they are easier to manage when considered separately. Nevertheless, it is possible to find them operating on the same image, which produces a hard damage. This happens when an image, already contaminated by Gaussian noise in the image acquisition procedure, undergoes impulsive corruption during its digital transmission. Here we proposed an algorithm first judge the type of the noise according to the difference values of pixel's neighborhood region and impulse noise's characteristic. Then removes the gauss noise by modified weighted mean filter and removes the impulse noise by modified nonlinear filter. The result of computer simulation on test images indicates that the proposed method is superior to traditional filtering algorithms. The proposed method can not only remove mixed noise effectively, but also preserve image details.

  • This paper presents an integrated low noise and highly linear wideband RF front-end for a digital terrestrial and cable TV tuner, which are used as a part of double-conversion TV tuner. The low noise amplifier (LNA) has a low noise figure and high linearity by adopting a noise canceling technique based on current amplification. The up-conversion mixer and SAW buffer have high linearity by employing a third order intermodulation cancellation technique. The proposed RF front-end is designed in a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS and draws 60 mA from a 1.8 V supply voltage. The RF front-end shows a voltage gain of 30 dB, an average single side-band noise figure of 4.2 dB, an IIP2 of 40 dBm, and an IIP3 of -4.5 dBm for the entire band from 48 MHz to 862Hz.

  • In the research of speech recognition, locating the beginning and end of a speech utterance in a background of noise is of great importance. Since the background noise presenting to record will introduce disturbance while we just want to get the stationary parameters to represent the corresponding speech section, in particular, a major source of error in automatic recognition system of isolated words is the inaccurate detection of beginning and ending boundaries of test and reference templates, thus we must find potent method to remove the unnecessary regions of a speech signal. The conventional methods for speech endpoint detection are based on two simple time-domain measurements - short-time energy, and short-time zero-crossing rate, which couldn't guarantee the precise results if in the low signal-to-noise ratio environments. This paper proposes a novel approach that finds the Lyapunov exponent of time-domain waveform. This proposed method has no use for obtaining the frequency-domain parameters for endpoint detection process, e.g. Mel-Scale Features, which have been introduced in other paper. Comparing with the conventional methods based on short-time energy and short-time zero-crossing rate, the novel approach based on time-domain Lyapunov Exponents(LEs) is low complexity and suitable for Digital Isolated Word Recognition System.

  • The purpose of this study was investigated optimal exposure condition in digital magnification mammography to decrease radiation dose and increase image quality of the examinee. Auto mode, the average glandular dose is higher than the manual mode. Average glandular dose and image quality were many differences on between grid and air gap technique in auto mode. However, Average glandular dose and signal-to-noise ratio were not different on between grid and air gap technique in manual mode. The signal-to-noise ratio was increased when using the air-gap technique in both mode. According to result, air gap technique may reduce average glandular dose and increase signal-to-noise ratio in digital magnification mammography.

The maxi$\mu$ loop lengths for subscriber service and cell loss rates to meet the bit error rate of 10$^{-7}$ at transmission of 2B1Q HDSL data E1 rate over existing telephone copper wires in the presence of the significant impairments such as NEXT(Nearned crosstalk), impulse noise, power line noise and longitudinal over the CSAs environment consisting of 26 gauge and 25 gauge unloaded copper telephone lines has assessed. HDSL will intially be used to serve private-DS1, ISDN-BRA, and DLC feeders, later DS1 extension from optic fiber cable. We also present market provision for the HDSL.
