  • The aim of this study was to empirically investigate the difference in life satisfaction between people with disabilities who utilize the Internet and those who do not. The study also found out through an interaction term analysis if there were differences in their life satisfaction and digital utilization by gender, age, education level, employment status, household income, as well as personal characteristics such as disability type and degree. While the existing studies have been mainly focused on the digital divide between the non-disabled and the disabled, this study attempts to further apply the advanced concept of digital divide - digital utilization divide - within the group of people with disabilities. Based on these research findings, this study shows that the digital utilization by people with disabilities has a statistically significant effect on their quality of life, and that life satisfaction of the people with disabilities who use the Internet is affected by their education level, residence, and disability degree. Consequently, these findings indicate implications that suggest an expanded form of digital divide policies for people with disabilities through broadening perspectives on policies for closing such divide.

  • The current study explores a possible mechanism through which game users' integrated sociopsychological factors lead to a higher level of life satisfaction, based on desire-fulfillment theory as well as hedonic and eudaimonic approaches to happiness. Using data from a survey of 789 game users in South Korea, we tested the relationships of psychological variables (self-esteem and game and life-efficacy), social variables (bonding and bridging social capital), and demographic variables (age and gender) with life satisfaction. Results show that self-esteem and game efficacy were an important antecedent to the degree of users' life satisfaction. Both bonding and bridging social capital increased life satisfaction. The importance of perspectives as well as their implications for game users and further associated research is explored.

Design/methodology/approach Using the data of 2018 Digital Divide Survey conducted by the National Information Society Agency(NIA), the mediating effect was verified by Baron & Kenny (1986)'s 3 step process, targeting 1,662 adults older than 55. Findings The result is as follows: first, the user attitude of middle and older aged people has a positive effect on their life satisfaction. Second, the effect of user Attitude towards Digital Device of middle and older citizens is partially mediated by the utilization performance of digital device. The results of this study indicate that when providing informatization education in the local community to promote the use of digital devices for the elderly, efforts should be made to grasp the level and inclination of informatization individually, and furthermore present improvements for wireless devices that the elderly can easily access in their daily lives. This study is expected to be a groundwork for a practical intervention to boost positive attitude towards using digital device to enhance the utilization performance of digital device and the life satisfaction of middle and older aged people.

Adaptation tendencies for digital divide were measured and classified into groups for elderly people over 60 years old. And digital communication skills, digital confidence, digital self-control, and digital life satisfaction were measured. The research model used a cross over design model and a dual mediation model. As a result of the study, first, it was found that a group with high adaptive accessibility to the digital divide had a positive effect on the overall digital daily life. Second, a group with high adaptive literacy to the digital divide had a positive effect on the digital self-control. Third, digital communication skill has a positive effect on digital life satisfaction, and digital confidence and digital self-control play a mediating role. Based on these findings, we discussed strategies to overcome the digital divide in old age.

  • Recently, Korean society has emphasized the level of digital information usage in each individual's life due to the advent of the intelligent information society and the great digital transformation. The purpose of this study is to examine how the level of digital information usage of people with disabilities affects their satisfaction with life and whether social support moderates the relationship between the level of digital information usage and life satisfaction. This study analyzed the data of 2,200 people with disabilities taken from the 2020 Survey on the Digital Divide conducted by the National Information Society Agency. The results of the analysis suggest that people with disabilities have a higher degree of satisfaction when they are employed and have a higher than average monthly income and higher levels of digital information usage and social support. In addition, the results show that social support played a negative moderator role between the level of digital information usage and life satisfaction. This shows that life satisfaction can increase when the disabled frequently use digital devices and technologies in their daily lives without relying on social support, and suggested the need for intervention in policies and practice sites.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how level of digital information usage of the middle-aged or elderly people affects life satisfaction and whether social capital mediates the relationship between level of digital information usage and life satisfaction. In this study, we analyzed data of 1,661 people aged 55 or older from the 「2018 Survey on Digital divide」 by the National Information Society Agency. The SPSS 25.0 statistical package was used for the mutiple regression analysis and Baron and Kenny(1986)'s steps for mediation. The statistical significance of the mediated effects of social capital was verified by the Sobel Test. As a result of the analysis, the aged people have a higher life satisfaction when they are women and older, do not live alone, have higher levels of digital informatization usage and social capital. In addition, social capital also revealed to have a mediating role between level of digital information usage and life satisfaction. This shows that social capital needs to be considered along with the level of digital information usage as a way to improve life satisfaction of the middle-aged or the elderly people.

  • This study aims to verify the relationship between achievement goal orientation and life satisfaction. It consists of 450 athletes from high school, university, and professional teams as an object. After examining reliability and validity on questionnaires, the data, based on gender, was evaluated by analysis of variance, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The result says that male athletes have higher scores in Mastery approach and Performance approach - two of the four achievement motivation factors - which means a meaningful difference between gender. Life satisfaction also shows that male players have more satisfaction and indicates a big difference between gender. Finally, according to the multiple regression analysis on the Athlete's achievement goal orientation and life satisfaction, Mastery approach affects statically but Mastery avoidance does negatively on athlete's life satisfaction. The gender-based relationship between Athlete's achievement goal orientation and life satisfaction reveals that mastery approach gives positive effects on life satisfaction for both genders, but mastery avoidance influences negatively on male and female life satisfaction.
