Computer game addiction generally signifies excessive or unhealthy inclination for computer games. Game addicts spend great amount of their time engrossed in playing games while neglecting the real world. They have the tendency to neglect important responsibilities and isolate themselves from others. Instead, they place greater importance on their status, performance, and achievement in games. Virtual stores, virtual libraries, virtual cinema, virtual trade shows, virtual schools, virtual characters have been emerging due to the popularity of the internet. An ambiguous term virtual reality has appeared in addition to the word virtual. There also appeared alien and UFO syndrome. Such social phenomenon has brought about confusion of reality and virtual world in which things that do not exist are mistakenly believed to exist. This study focuses on virtual reality games and provides an assessment of the causes and the side effects of game addiction and proposes countermeasures.

While the SGML(standard generalized markup language) tend to be used in multimedia document management systems, still binary document images are widely used in servicing the information of printed documents at digital libraries. But the printed documents are scanned in 200 dpi resolution and the scanned binary document images are compressed by the ITU-T T.6 method, so they have difficulties in representing them in good quality and compressing them very efficiently. In this paper, by considering quality of the binary document images and expandability and effectiveness of database of them, we show that the suitable scanning resolution of them is 600 dpi and the best compression method is the JBIG. A staged service strategy of them is also suggested to solve the difficulty caused from long decompression time of the JBIG by analyzing characteristics of retrieving the binary document images in monitor and printer. In experiments for several typical binary document images, high compression rate of the JBIG and effectiveness of the staged service strategy are verified.

This study deals with the theoretical analysis of important audiovisual archives, specifically regarding the historical context of the given theme. The study will feature a historical review of the concept, which is the basis for audiovisual archive research, followed by the specificities of audiovisual archives in sharp contrast to public archives, libraries, and museums. Audiovisual archives will also be covered primarily regarding documentaries as well as places and institutions. The study will conclude with various issues of audiovisual archives in today's digital age. The study hopes to contribute to the growth of audiovisual archive research in Korea and the establishment of various audiovisual archives that will be addressed on a national level both in policy and in practice.

As mobiles devices with high-spec camera built in are used widely, the visual quality enhancement of the high-resolution images turns out to be one of the key capabilities of the mobile devices. Due to the limited computational resources of the mobile devices and the size of the high-resolution images, we should choose an image processing algorithm not too complex and use an efficient implementation technology. One of the simple and widely used image quality enhancement algorithms is contrast stretching. Java libraries running on a virtual machine, JNI (Java Native Interface) based native C/C++, and NEONTM SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) are common implementation technologies in the case of Android smartphones. Using these three implementation technologies, we have implemented two image contrast stretching algorithms - linear and equalized, and compared the computation times. The native C/C++ and the NEONTM SIMD outperformed the native C/C++ implementation by 56-78 and 50-76 time faster respectively.

The purpose of this study is to suggest a strategy of introduction of Larchiveum, which is a concept of multi cultural space in libraries. Problem of library space programs are discussed in terms of Larchiveum and Maker space, and recently it has been studied in various aspects such as Europeana, GLAM and DPLA from the view point of digital Larchiveum. As a multi cultural space, it is a strategy for constructing Larchiveum that reflects the recent maker's movement. Maker space that explores new ideas and encourages active participation of users, nature and health, curiosity and the construction of an attractive space using ecological concepts as key words. The processes and methods for constructing Larchiveum are classified into 3 types of space configuration, service, program, and operating regulation, and twelve details are laid out to derive the process and method of building Larchiveum as a future type library.

The 21st century will be the advanced Information society era. The management of very large quantity of electronic documents is important because new applications such as Digital Libraries, CSCW (Computer-Supported Cooperative Work) in Intranet, CALS (Commerce At the Light Speed) are emerging, which require the functionalities of efficient storing, searching and managing a bulk of electronic documents. SGML(Standard Generalized Markup Language) is an ISO Standard for representing structure information of electronic documents. This paper proposes an effective data model for storing and managing SGML documents. We also describe the design and implementation details of SGML document management system, which has capabilities of storing SGML instances, generating schema dynamically, and retrieving structure elements efficiently.

The new technology, RSS(Really Simple Syndication), allows people to send and receive a lot of up-to-date information by constant monitoring websites and databases for new information, without having to visit the site or database. The "gatekeeping" task for capturing and delivering various information influx via new digital channels as speedy as possible, is being discussed as a new form of service in the field of information service system nowadays. Given this situation, the RSS tool can be greatly useful in the gatekeeping task. This paper, by analyzing concrete cases in which RSS is actually employed in libraries and also newly applied to other diverse information services in France, expects to provide insightful ideas for developing innovative information services in other countries.

This study is a literature study that analyzed the research data curation models using activity theory as a theoretical framework. Based on the factors of the activity used in the activity theory, this study analyzed various research data curation models, as well as issues that needed discussion in the library field in carrying out research data curation activities. And based on this, a new research data curation conceptual model was proposed. This study analyzed how the five previously proposed digital curation lifecycle models are configured, and analyzed the actions presented sporadically in each model. A new research data curation conceptual model was proposed by analyzing factors, extracting common factors and integrating them into a new model. In addition, six issues to be considered in carrying out research data curation activities in libraries and repositories were analyzed and discussed. The research data curation conceptual model proposed in this study consists of a total of 10 steps, and it contains practical issues and contradictions to consider at each stage of activity.

Due to the inferior condition of local library reference service, an air of indifference about users, and the increase in Internet resources, cooperative reference service in domestic libraries tend to be stagnant. The increase in Internet resources was reconsidered, aside from traditional library reference service, based on question and answer service. It shed new light on the importance of indirect service, which is focused on reliable knowledge base construction. This study analyzed cooperative reference service, which is managed by the Japanese Diet library that pursued indirect service contrary to ours. Based on that, it suggested a new takeoff possibility for Korean cooperative reference service.

Optical disks are widely used in libraries and archives as digital data media due to their long-term storage stability. Though archive-grade optical disks are already available on the market, there is a relative less focusing on the reliable recording conditions. Commercial BD-R media were recorded at various recording speeds with the maximum speed of 6X, and tested at the acceleration aging conditions. Through the evaluation of long-term storage features by the data stability test, lower recording speed of 2x resulted in better long-term storage stability. In addition, degradation aspects of unstable long-term storage feature at outer region of disk were discussed.
