  • Holographic interferometry technique has been used for the measurement of whole-field deformation with high sensitivity. However there are some difficulties in quantitatively analyzing the holographic fringes. Recently, quantitative and automatic fringe analysis by using phase shifting method in interferometry has been studied in many fields. In this paper, a real time holographic interferometry system and a phase shifting method combined with digital image processing technique are employed to record and quantitatively analyze holographic fringe patterns. To evaluate our system and analyze errors, comparison of measured deformation with theoretical deformation of cantilever beam was carried out. The accuracy of 4.5% in our system was verified We have tried to apply this method to quantitatively measure the deformation of turbine blade under the bending force.

  • As the number of the deaf who go out into the society has been increasing, in most of the lectures, the demands for the sign language interpretation and the accuracy of the interpretation have become more important. Especially, in order to improve the accuracy of the sign language interpretation, the interpreter must be aware of the appearances of the lecturer and the contents of the lecture, and at the same time, the interpreter must look toward the audience. This research introduces a system which can be effective in a small classrooms or auditorium, by providing the maximum information about the lecturer and the contents of the lecture. Also, in order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed system, this research includes the discussions about the related systems and test methods. In conclusion, delivering the images of the lecturer and the contents of the lecture to the interpreter by employing the proposed system has been proved effective.

  • Side scan sonar using acoustic wave plays a very important role in the underwater, sea floor, and shallow marine geologic survey. In this study, we have acquired side scan sonar data for the underwater man-made structures, artificial reefs and fishing grounds, installed and distributed in the survey area. We applied digital image processing techniques to side scan sonar data in order to improve and enhance an image quality. We carried out digital image processing with various kinds of filtering in spatial domain and frequency domain. We tested filtering parameters such as kernel size, differential operator, and statistical value. We could easily estimate the conditions, distribution and environment of artificial structures through the interpretation of side scan sonar.

  • Purpose : To evaluate and compare the efficacy of digital radiographic images in the detection of bone loss at the bifurcation area of the mandibular first molar with traditional film-based periapical radiographs, Materials and Methods : One dried human mandible with minimal periodontal bone loss around the first molar was selected and an artificial alveolar bone defect at the bifurcation area was serially prepared over 18 steps. Images were taken using a direct CCD-based system and with F-speed periapical films. The images were evaluated by seven interpreters (3 radiologists, 3 periodontologists, and 1 general dentist) using a 5-point confidence rating scale. Results : The readability of both periapical radiographs and digital image increased as the size of the artificial lesion and exposure time increased (p < 0.05). Periapical radiographs offered greater readability of smaller bone defects than digital images, and the coefficient of variation of mean score between periapical radiographs and digital images showed a significant difference. Conclusion : The experimental results indicate that a significant difference in the coefficient of variation of mean score exists between periapical radiographs and digital images, and that traditional film-based periapical images offer greater readability of smaller bone defects than digital images can presently offer.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to identify the role of digital shadow work(DSW) in the psychological mechanism that controls using and purchasing digital device accessories. More specifically, it is to reveal how the digital device user's perception of DSW is formed and how the formed DSW affects purchase and what results it will bring. Design/methodology/approach Ground theory method(GTM), one of qualitative appoaches, is adopted as research methodology. By interviewing total twenty five users, the data are analyzed by open coding amd axis coding. Two core codes are selected by selective coding and interpreted by DSW theory. Findings We find concern for potential DSW and generation of new DSW. Concern for potential DSW lead to the purchase of accessorie which would be supposed to reduce potential DSW. During purchasing accessories, quest type DSW, which provices flow experience and expertise, could be genterated. This means that there would be dynamics of DSW in the purchase process of digital device accessories.

  • This paper is the author's personal experience and interpretation as a student whilst participating in Professor Kyung-Sook Shin's English Literature graduate course, "Literature and Technology II: Feminisms and Digital Humanities," during the 2019 spring semester at Yonsei University, South Korea. Exploring the intersections of literary feminist theory and digital humanities, this paper examines not only the content, but also the methodology and political effects of collaboratively digitally annotating Elizabeth Barrett Browning's epic novel/poem, Aurora Leigh (1856) through the medium, Google Docs. In particular, this paper observes the students' interaction with the digital tools and literature-related pedagogy in two main parts. First, the democratic political nature of classroom culture when creating a new language/code during annotation. Second, the coexistence of cyberspace and the physical classroom space and its effect on time, specifically in the archival of the past, influencing of the future, and the splitting into the present multiverse. From a student's perspective in digital literary annotation, this paper shows that technology could become a way to decolonize and reprogram education to be more inclusive and collaborative.

  • Purpose: Organizational crime is an offense committed by an individual or an official in a corporate entity for organizational gain. This study aims to explore the literature on challenges facing digital forensics and further discuss possible solutions to such challenges as far as the protection of corporate crime is concerned. Research design, data and methodology: Qualitative textual methodology matches the interpretative approach since it is a quality method meant to consider the inductivity of strategies. Also, a qualitative approach is vital because it is distinct from the techniques used in optimistic paradigms linked to science laws. Results: For achieving justice through the investigation of digital forensic, there is a need to eradicate corporate crimes. This study suggests several solutions to reduce corporate crime such as 'Solving a problem to Anti-forensic Techniques', 'Cloud computing technique', and 'Legal Framework' etc. Conclusion: As corporate crime increases in rate, the data collected by digital forensics increases. The challenge of analyzing chunks of data requires digital forensic experts, who need tools to analyze them. Research findings shows that a change of the operating system and digital evidence interpretation is becoming a challenge as the new computer application software is not compatible with older software's structure.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of periapical radiographs and their digitized images for the detection of simulated interproximal carious lesions. A total of 240 interproximal surfaces was used in this study. The case sample was composed of 80 anterior teeth, 80 bicuspids and 80 molars which were prepared in order to distribute the surfaces from carious free to those containing simulated carious lesions of varying depths (0.5㎜, 0.8㎜, and 1.2㎜). The periapical radiographs were taken by paralleling technique and film used was Kodak Ektaspeed(E group). All radiographs were evaluated by five dentist to recognize the true status of simulated carious lesion. They were asked to give a score of 0, 1, 2, or 3. Digitized images were obtained using a commercial video processor(FOTOVIX Ⅱ- XS). And the computer system was 486 DX PC with PC Vision and frame grabber. The 17' display monitor had a resolution of 1280×1024 pixels(0.26㎜ dot pitch). But the one frame of the intraoral radiograph has a resolution of 700×480 pixels and each pixel has a grey level value of 256. All the radiographs and digital images were viewed under uniform subdued lighting in the same reading room. After a week the second interpretation was performed in the same condition. The detection of lesions on the monitor was compared with the finding of simulated interproximal carious lesions on the film images. The results were as follows: 1. When the scoring criteria was dichotomous ; lesion present and not present 1) The overall sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy of periapical radiographs and their digital images showed no statistically significant difference. 2) The sensitivity and specificity according to the region of teeth and the grade of lesions showed no statistically significant difference between periapical radiographs and their digital images. 2. When estimate the grade of lesions ; score 0, 1, 2, 3 1) The overall diagnostic accuracy was 53.3% on the intraoral films and 52.9% on digital images. There was no significant difference. 2) The diagnostic accuracy according to the region of teeth showed no statistically significant difference between periapical radiographs and their digital images. 3. The degree of agreement and reliability 1) Using gamma value to show the degree of agreement, there was similarity between periapical films and digital images. 2) The reliability of each twice interpretation of periapical films and digital images showed no statistically significant difference. In all cases P value was greater than 0.05, showing that both techniques can be used to detect the incipient and moderate interproximal carious lesions with similar accuracy.
