  • This study is on the reading method of Korean old poetry in the digital age. Now days, we are living in digital media. The method of getting, organizing, and producing information is changed a lot. So for keeping pace with this change, we should reflect our teaching method. Of course, the purpose of our reflection is not to follow digital media's method and change or alter existing reading or teaching method, but it is to identify proper own reading strategy of old poetry and adjust existing method for our student who are skilled with digital media. We propose three kinds of method for student readers in school. These are 1) starting like a newspaper reader, 2) getting context (reading, making hyperlink), and 3) figuring as an architect (reading as space or scenery creator). In addition, we think about recent tendency that Korean old poetry is de-constructed and re-constructed as digital contents in digital space. We call it digitalizing of old poetry. The experiencing old poetry as a digital contents is different from reading old poetry, so we cannot alter old poetry reading experience into experience of digital contents. In conclusion, digitalizing contents should be used restrictively to fertilize reading experience of original old poetry.

  • This study aimed to examine whether there are differences in reading performance between digital and print media by measuring reading speed of paragraphs on print materials and tablet PC. To investigate whether the physical characteristics of the media influence reading performance, the format of text was kept as similar as possible between print and digital media. We also compared conditions in which paragraphs consisted of either long or short sentences to explore if there were differential effects on reading performance based on sentence length across different media. Additionally, reading speed was analyzed based on reading span to investigate whether there were differences in reading performance according to participants' working memory capacity. As a result, reading speed was faster when reading print media compared to digital media. However, there was no difference in reading speed based on the length of sentences composing the paragraphs. Participants with a higher reading span exhibited faster reading speed compared to participants with a lower reading span. Moreover, participants with a higher reading span read paragraphs composed of long sentences faster on print media than on digital media. The findings of this study suggest that visual fatigue induced by tablet PCs and participants' working memory capacity may impact reading speed.

  • This study is conducted in order to find out 1) if a digital storytelling activity can enhance children's attitudes on reading and writing, and 2) if there is any difference between cooperative and individual digital storytelling groups in their attitudes. For this Purpose, 29 4th graders in an elementary school in Seoul participated as subjects. The findings of this study showed that digital storytelling improved their reading and writing attitudes. However, there was no significant difference in attitudes between the cooperative and individual digital storytelling groups. This study has demonstrated that digital storytelling is a good way of enhancing children's reading and writing attitudes. This study represents a preliminary effort to empirically examine the effectiveness of digital storytelling on reading education.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop conceptualization models of reading, information, ICT, and digital literacy through conceptual differences of these literacy by reviewing and defining the concepts of literacy as well as reading, information, ICT, and digital literacy. Computer literacy has emerged as a concept that explains the phenomenon of contemporary social, cultural, and information technology development, and since then, computer literacy has since changed to IT, ICT literacy, and digital literacy. As a result of the study, a conceptualization model of the reading, information, ICT, and digital literacy was developed. In this model, these literacy whose terms have changed according to the technological development of media, have been classified as medium-centered literacy. And reading and information literacy that focuses on the cognitive process of understanding, utilizing, and evaluating texts and information is categorized as process-oriented literacy. In the digital environment, reading and information literacy is a core competence to critically think and evaluate the texts that are on media, and further research is needed to reduce the reading and the information gap among readers.

  • Reading and writing in the past make noble significance in 'narration', in other words, in 'the creation of narration', through the process of 'recording'; but in the modern times, it engenders controversies over narration and linearity. In other words, reading/writing in digital era, is devalued as the simple arrangement of test or the connection of vast information without narration nor linearity. However, the reading/writing through text and hypertext reading is not the phenomenon which should be criticized because of the lack of narration or linearity-not only the lack of narration and linearity -, a process of social and cultural transition; it should be revalued as a result. The change of reading and writing methods will inevitably accompany the layers, status, significance and value of the contents; thus it makes more sense, when the reading and writing methods in digital contents are approached as new pop culture phenomenon. This is the "The prose of everyday life", based on pop culture and "The society of Conversation", based on communication; proposed 'Digitelling' ; this is the reason why we should pay attention to the digital contents, created infinitely by the citizens of the world, as new mass-culture phenomenon.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the items related to digital reading and information literacy which were measured by PIAAC and PISA, to examine the measurement contents and methods of these literacy items, and to derive the implications for providing reading and information services for librarians at public libraries and teacher librarians. In order to solve the questions measuring digital reading literacy and digital information literacy, respondents commonly needed ICT skills as well as cognitive strategies. However, in digital reading literacy measurement items, the ability to comprehend and critically think about texts was emphasized. And in digital information literacy measurement items, the ability to use ICT skills, navigate, and evaluate whether or not to read the retrieved text was emphasized. Librarians and teacher librarians need to encourage readers to read and provide a customized competencies improvement program to reflect the performance results and characteristics of a particular group. And It is also necessary to improve and develop the library environment so that library user can understand and use library search system and the Korean decimal classification.

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm the effect of digital co-teaching between teachers online on improving students' reading literacy. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, a pre-test was conducted on first-year high school students, and a post-test was conducted after conducting the co-teaching over two sessions. For statistical analysis, the data of 101 students with no missing values in pre- and post-tests were used. Through the OECD's PISA reading literacy evaluation framework and factor analysis, a reading literacy test tool consisting of expression, comprehension, and information literacy was developed and the degree of change in reading literacy was measured through a self-report with the tool. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the digital co-teaching had a statistically significant positive effect on the expression, comprehension and information literacy of high school students. This study is meaningful in that it shows that digital co-teaching can be applied as a way to improve reading literacy in PISA organized by the OECD.

  • Digital talking books have been developed to enhance reading experiences for reading-disabled people. In the existing digital talking books, however, it is difficult to read special contents such as math expressions, images, etc. In this paper, we define reading rules for Contents MathML. Based on this rules, we implemented a program for reading the mathematical contents of Contents MathML, using XSLT. We conducted a confirm test to prove the accuracy of the program, and an usability test to measure understanding of reading text of math expressions.
