Hangul Porting and Display Performance Comparison of an Embedded System (임베디드 시스템을 위한 한글 포팅 및 출력 성능 비교)

  • Three methods frequently used for Hangul display in computer systems are Standard Johab Code in which each of Hangul consonants and vowels is given a 5-bit code and each syllable created by combining them forms a 2-byte code, Standard Wansung Code in which each of all the syllables generally used for Hangul presentation forms a 2-byte code, and Unicode in which each syllable in most of the world's language systems is given a unique code so that it allows computers to consistently represent and manipulate them in a unified manner. An embedded system in general has a lower processing power and a limited amount of storage space, compared to a personal compute(PC) system. According to its usage, however, the former may have a processing power equal to that of the latter. Hence, when Hangul display needs to be adopted, an embedded system must choose a display method suitable for its own resource environment. This paper introduces a TFT LCD initialization method and pixel display functions of an LN2440SBC embedded board on which an LP35, a 3.5" TFT LCD kit, is attached. Using the initialization and pixel display functions, in addition, we compare three aforementioned Hangul display methods, in terms of their processing speeds and amounts of memory space required. According to experiments, Standard Johab Code requires less amount of memory space but more processing time than Standard Wansung Code, and Unicode requires the largest amount of memory space but the least processing time.

  • The software which is used for electronic bulletin boards have shortcomings that the addition of new function and new information's type to the order point software is very difficult, and the aggressive adaption of newly introduced type of media is impossible because the software is developed by custom solution. Eventually new cost and time are required to enhance functionality or performance to software of DID(Digital Information Display). In this paper, we proposed the scheme to package DID's contents and to customize it using plug-in method. We conducted a case study of this scheme. The platform which can install Apps to DID as one of content was designed. Apps can be inserted by plug-in type on DID platform and run separately with DID framework. As a result, We got advantage that various contents, functions and Apps which are drived on Android can be displayed without any restriction and dependency because Apps itself is one of dynamic notice object. This solution increase reusability of Apps or contents, and can be used easily in various places such as airports, stations, terminals, and front desk by customizing.

Visible Light Identification System for Smart Door Lock Application with Small Area Outdoor Interface

  • Visible light identification (VLID) is a user identification system for a door lock application using smartphone that adopts visible light communication (VLC) technology with the objective of high security, small form factor, and cost effectiveness. The user is verified by the identification application program of a smartphone via fingerprint recognition or password entry. If the authentication succeeds, the corresponding encoded visible light signals are transmitted by a light emitting diode (LED) camera flash. Then, only a small size and low cost photodiode as an outdoor interface converts the light signal to the digital data along with a comparator, and runs the authentication process, and releases the lock. VLID can utilize powerful state-of-the-art hardware and software of smartphones. Furthermore, the door lock system is allowed to be easily upgraded with advanced technologies without its modification and replacement. It can be upgraded by just update the software of smartphone application or replacing the smartphone with the latest one. Additionally, wireless connection between a smartphone and a smart home hub is established automatically via Bluetooth for updating the password and controlling the home devices. In this paper, we demonstrate a prototype VLID door lock system that is built up with LEGO blocks, a photodiode, a comparator circuit, Bluetooth module, and FPGA board.

  • 본 눈문에서는 뒤틀림, 응력, 압력[1], 토크, 가속도 등의 물리적인 동적 현상을 측정하여 수집된 데이터를 처리하기 위한 신호처리(Signal Processins) 기능이 결합되어 넓은 용도로 활용할 수 있는 센서 신호 수집 시스템을 구현하였다. 구현된 시스템은 data acquisition board 의 하드웨어와 소프트웨어로 나누어 볼 수 있다. 하드웨어의 구성은 아날로그부, 디지털부, 그리고 시스템 인터페이스 처리부로 되어 있다. 아날로그부에서는 센서신호를 받아서, PGA (Programmable Gain Amplifier)[2]와 Op-Amp를 사용하여 signal conditioning 처리하여 8차 Lowpass Filter 로 보낸다. Filtering 된 신호는 ADC (Analog to Digital Converter) 가 내장되어 있는 PIC(3) microcontroller로 보내져 AD변환과 디지털 신호 처리를 한다. 처리된 신호는 RS232 인터페이스를 통해 호스트 컴퓨터로 보내 사용자가 분석할 수 있도록 한다. 또한 LCD display 실시간으로 확인, 분석할 수 있으며 동시에analog output에서 센서신호의 특징을 분석 할 수 있도록 한다.

Design and Implementation of High Speed Pulse Motor Controller Chip (고속 펄스 모터 콘트롤러 칩의 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented a precise pulse motor controller chip that generates the pulse needed to control step motor, DC servo and AC servo motors. This chip generates maximum pulse output rate of 5Mpps and has the quasi-S driving capability and speed and moving distance override capability during driving. We designed this chip with VHDL and executed a logic simulation and synthesis using Synopsys tool. The pre-layout simulation and post-layout simulation was executed by Compass tool. This chip was produced with 100 pins, PQFP package by 0.8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ gate array process and implemented by completely digital logic. We developed the test hardware board of performance and the CAMC(Computer Aided Motor Controller) Agent softwate to test the performance of the pulse motor controller chip produced. CAMC Agent enables user to set parameters needed to control motor with easy GUI(Graphic User Interface) environment and to display the output response of motor graphically.

  • Since most real experimental situations are different from those of the simulations, it is required to modify control rules through experiments owing to uncertainties and unmodeled dynamics of the plant. This paper presents a convenient monitoring system which can display system responses exactly and test the performances of the control system. We design a PID controller using DSP board and propose a monitoring system based on PC and C++ Builder program. With the proposed monitoring system we can easily control the velocity of a DC motor system.

Designing Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Application for Children with Severe and Multiple Disabilities (중도중복장애아동을 위한 보완대체 의사소통(AAC) 앱 설계)

  • In this study, specific elements and functions in modules of the AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) application for children with severe and multiple disabilities were elicited, and screen interface was designed accordingly. As results, screen configuration, communication display edition, audiovisual output, and switch and scanning modules were defined. Screen configuration module consists of communication category, spelling board, favorites, screen lock, and setting function. The Communication display edition module includes communication categories, symbols, and favorites edition. The audiovisual output module provides the ability to adjust the pitch, intensity, speed, and tone of the voice individually in the form of auditory output. In the form of visual output, the background color and size of the frame, border color and thickness are adjusted. The switch and scanning module provides a function to select by pressing the switch when the symbol cell is highlighted audibly and visually. The development of the AAC application designed in this study is needed.

  • This study conducted an actual condition survey with users in order to examine the Graphic User Interface (GUI) design appearing in fast food Digital Information Display (DID). Selecting four restaurants with high sales in the hamburger industry in 2017, including Lotteria, McDonald's, Burger King, and Mom's Touch, based on this, this study investigated and analyzed GUI visual components appearing in DID, including layout, character, color, graphics, and videos based on this. As a result, this study could propose a design plan providing users with the layout that can be clearly and neatly divided, characters attracting attention with high readability, colors with high visibility, graphics attract interest, and videos with various contents, rather than a complex approach for efficient GUI design, analyzing the environmental factors of fast food restaurants.

A High Efficiency Power Conversion Circuit with Wide ZVS Range for Large Screen PDP Sustaining Power Module (넓은 영전압 스위칭 범위를 갖는 대화면 PDP용 유지전원단을 위한 고효율 전력 변환회로)

  • Recently, due to the launch of digital broadcasting service, the demand of Flat Panel Display (FPD) is sharply rising. Among them, the PDP is expected to be one of the most promising digital displays of next generation because of its large screen size, high resolution, thinness and board field of view. Meanwhile, the PDP uses ADS (Address Display-period Separation) scheme which divide one subfield into address and sustaining period to express the grey scale of images. Since the output of sustaining power module Is mostly used for sustaining period, the load of the sustaining power module can be considered as a pulsating load. Due to this particular load condition, if the wide ZVS range of the power switches is not guaranteed, the hard switching causes large amount of switching loss and serious thermal problem in power module. In this paper, a high efficiency power conversion circuit for 60' PDP sustaining power module which achieves wide ZVS range with the help of additional ZVS tank is proposed. According to the various gating methods, the different operations of the proposed converter are presented. And, to confirm the properties of the proposed converter, an experimental prototype of 900W power converter is constructed md tested. As a result, more than $92\%$ of high efficiency is obtained at $10\%$ load condition, and the ZVS operation is achieved from full load to $10\%$ load condition.

Remote Measurement for Automobile′s ECU Diagnostic Signals based on the PDA (PDA 기반의 차량 진단신호의 원격 계측)

  • In this paper, we present a new method for monitoring of ECU's self diagnostic signals of vehicle without wire. In order to measure the ECU's self diagnostic signals, the interfaced circuit is designed to communicate ECU and a designed display terminal according to the ISO, SAE regulation of communication protocol standard. A 80C196KC processor is used for communicating ECU's self diagnostic signals and the results are sent to PDA monitoring system. Software on PDA is developed to monitor the ECU's self diagnostic signals using the Embedded Visual C++ compiler in which RS232 port is programmed by half duplex method. The algorithms for measuring the ECU's self diagnostic signals are verified to monitor ECU's state. At the same time, the information to fix the vehicle's problem can be shown on the developed PDA software. The possibility for remote measurement of ECU self diagnostic signal using PDA is also verified through the developed systems and algorithms.
