  • The objective of this study is to obtain characteristics of early age pore-structure and carbonation of concrete using ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS). The durability of GGBFS concrete should be evaluated for wide use of the GGBFS. As for that evaluation, an analysis on early age pore-structure characteristics of GGBFS concrete are very important, Carbonation depths of GGBFS concrete, which are known to be larger than that of OPC, are different according to replacement ratios and fineness of slag. Because sea sand as fine aggregate is much used recently, it is also necessary to analyze characteristics of carbonation of GGBFS concrete. In this study, The micro-pore structure formation characteristics of GGBFS concrete are obtained through the test of GGBFS mortars with different fineness and replacement ratio of GGBFS. The carbonation of GGBFS concrete is also investigated by acclerated carbonation test for early age GGBFS concrete.

  • To evaluate the effects of cultivar, environment, age and cultivation times on ginsenoside content among 8 wild populations of American ginseng (Panax quinquefolium), the concentrations of 6 ginsenosides in root were determined at the time of collection (T0) of plants from the wild and 1 year after (T1) transplanting the roots to each of two different forest garden locations. Both location and population had significant effects on root and shoot growth. Overall, ginsenoside Rb1 was most abundant. The second most abundant ginsenoside were Re and Rg1, however the contents of them were not significantly different from each other. Concentrations of Rg1 and Re were inversely related. Ginsenoside Re was influenced by population and location. Ginsenoside Rg1, Rb1, Rc, Rb2 and Rd were influenced by population, location and age. Ginsenoside levels were consistently lower but growth was consistently higher at the more intensively managed garden location.

  • Background and Objectives : The nasalance score measured by Nasometer is a supplementary data for the perceptually rated nasality by a trained speech pathologist. The nasalance score varies with subjects. The objective of the present study was to examine whether there are differences in nasalance scores as a function of age and sex. Materials and Method : This study used 20 normal chidren aged from 3 to 8 and 40 normal adults aged from 21 to 37(male : female= 1 : 1) as subjects. The nasalance scores were analyzed in 3 different phonetic contests(nasal, /i/ vowel,/a/ vowel) and 4 different sentence lengths(1, 2, 4, 8 syllable). Results : The children had significantly higher nasalance scores in short sentences an the adults. The female subjects had significantly higher nasalance scores in nasal sentences and in short sentences than the male subjects. Conclusion : These results may indicate that sex and age differences should be considered in the interpretation of the nasalance score in nasal sentences or in short sentences.

  • An experiment was conducted to examine the efficacy of spray vaccination against Newcastle disease (ND). Four different coarse sprayers and four different diluents were compared in particle size, immune response and respiratory reaction. The smaller particle size of sprayer was, the better efficacy was and the more respiratory reactions were appeared. Of four diluents, antibody responses and resistance to challenge were higher with skim milk and gelatin, respectively .When day-old broiler chicks with maternal antibodies were vaccinated by coarse. sprayer B with B$_1$strain diluted in 1% skim milk, they showed 100% protection at two weeks of age and 50% from 4 to 8 weeks of age. Another group which boostered at 2 weeks of age by drinking water vaccination showed 100%, 70%, 50%, 40% protection at 2, 4, 6, 8 weeks of age, respectively. Although spray vaccination against ND in this experiments showed similar efficacy, compared to conventional methods, this method may not be appropriate in our field condition because of respiratory vaccinal reaction.

  • Experimental investigation was undertaken to determine early-age strength development and the relationships between the mechanical properties of type I, V and V/fly ash cement concrete with different curing temperature. The tests for mechanical properties, i.e., compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and modulus of elasticity were carried out for type, I, V and V with 15% replacement with fly ash cement concrete. For this purpose 480 concrete cylinders cured at isothermal conditions of 10, 23, 35 and 5$0^{\circ}C$ were tested at ages of 1, 3, 7 and 28days. According to the experiments, the concrete subjected to high temperature at early age got greater strength at early age, however eventually lower strength at late age. The derived relationships between compressive strength and splitting tensile strength and elastic modulus of elasticity appeared to be identical for all types of cement.

  • One hundred and twenty indigenous pigeons of either sexes of different age groups were sacrificed in different seasons to assess the interactions of sex, age and seasons on the proximate composition and gross energy values of fresh boneless meat. The dry matter and protein contents decreased but the fat, ash and energy contents increased linearly as the birds aged. Seasons and age had significant influences on either of these two performance traits. Meat of growing pigeons of both sexes was found to contain high protein and low fat throughout the year.

  • This study measured the thermal environment and residents' control behaviors of cooing according to 3 groups of household type-families with preschool children, families of middle age and families of senior. The object of this study are to fmd the difference of the actual condition of indoor thermal environment and cooling control behavior by age or household type and to develop user oriented climate control system. The results were summarized as follows. When the age of members at household is younger, the indoor mean temperature and temperature that people turned off the air conditioner became lower. These different indoor thermal environment of each group means that younger generation is familiar with cooler from their early age and these early uses of cooler made them prefer cooler condition than family of senior. Therefore, this results show that different indoor thermal environment is influenced by factors such as household type and metabolism difference and so on.

  • The clinical characteristics of fistula-in-ano in infants are different from those of older children, and its treatment remains controversial. We suggest that fistula-in-ano in infants has a congenital etiology. To verify this hypothesis and to settle the controversies regarding fistula-in ano in infants, a retrospective analysis of 29 patients less than 2 years of age with anal fistulae treated between 1994 and 2009 at Samsung Changwon Hospital were reviewed retrospectively. Twenty two patients were male and mean age at diagnosis was $7.2{\pm}5.2$ months. Eleven out of 22 cases had previous surgical drainage for perianal abscess. 18 patients had fistulotomy (81.8 %) and four had fistulectomy (18.2 %). Cryptotomies with fistulectomy were performed in 10 patients (45.5 %) who had involved crypt. There was one recurrence. These results suggest that fistula-in-ano in young children less than two years of age is different from those in older children or adults. Fistulotomy is suggested to be the recommended treatment of choice. A future study involving non-operative management would be required to explore all treatment options.
