  • In this paper the change of electrical properties of transformer oil due to electron beam irradiation is investigated. The specimens are produced with a some different dose of 0.5[Mrad], 1[Mrad] and 2[Mard] except for original specimen. The physical properties of each specimen is analyzed by using the FT-IR spectrum. So it is confirmed that carbonyl groups are increased according to the increase of electron beam dose and also that the nitric compounds are disappeared. The magnitude of dielectric dissipation factor appears maximum value by the contribution of dipoles and ions in the low temperature low voltage region and it is stable due to the saturation of carriers in the high temperature high voltage region in the electric conduction characteristics. Volume resistivity is also measured one of original specimen is larger than irradiated specimen.

  • In this research, we studied the variation of the dielectric loss absorption of the dielectric loss absorption of the sample according with the change to $\^$60/Co-${\gamma}$-ray irradiation dose of the influence of temperature and applied voltage. In order to investigate the effect of irradiation oriented polypropylene film, we have observed dissipation factor within the temperature range of 30∼130 [$^{\circ}C$] and voltage range of 100∼250$^{\circ}C$ [V]. As for the dependency of temperature by dissipation factor, the ${\alpha}$-peak which appears at high temperature increases accordingly to the increasement of irradiation dose which is contributed by the crystal region and moves towards the high temperature. The ${\beta}$-peak which appears at low temperature is origined from dipoles and molecular motions in the amorphous region. As for the dependency of voltage by tan$\delta$, at low temperature the peak of the tan$\delta$, at low temperature the peak of the tan$\delta$ shifts accordingly to the increasement of irradiation dose towards the high temperature region.

  • Dielectric polymer films produced from benzocyclobutene (BCB) formulations (CYCLOTENE* family resins) are known to possess many desirable properties for microelectronic applications; for example, low dielectric constant and dissipation factor, low moisture absorption, rapid curing on hot plate without reaction by-products, minimum shrinkage in curing process, and no Cu migration issues. Recently, BCB-based products for thick film applications have been developed, which exhibited excellent dissipation factor and dielectric constant well into the GHz range, 0.002 and 2.50, respectively. Derived from these properties, the applications are developed in: bumping/wafer level packaging, Ga/As chip ILD, optical waveguide, flat panel display, and lately in BCB-coated Cu foil for build-up board. In this paper, we review the relevant properties of BCB, then the application areas in bumping/wafer level packaging and BCB-coated Cu foil for build-up board.

  • Breakdown of solid insulating materials in power equipment could result in undesired outages and replacements, and may be due to an increase in electric stress on the material. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a proper diagnosis of materials before their practical use. In this work, a few inherent properties of different non-cellulosic insulating materials, such as Nomex, Teflon, laminated Nomex, glass bonded mica, epoxy resin bonded mica paper, and epoxy resin bonded fiberglass, have been evaluated by performing non-destructive dielectric diagnostic measurements, and an attempt has been made to correlate these basic parameters to evaluate the breakdown strength (BDS). An equation has been proposed using a basic theory which defines the correlation between the BDS, dielectric constant, dissipation factor, sample thickness, and volume resistivity. The results obtained from the equation are also compared with the experimental values. The suggested equation will be helpful to predict the BDS of any non-cellulosic material without experimentation in the laboratory.

  • Since the reliability of adhesively bonded joints is much dependent on the curing status of thermosetting adhesive, the on-line cure monitoring during the cure of adhesively joints could improve the quality of adhesively bonded joints. In this work, the dielectric method which measures the dissipation factor of the adhesive during the cure of joints and converts it into the degree of cure of the adhesive was devised. The relation between the dissipation factor and the degree of cure of adhesive was investigated, which could eliminate the temperature effect on the dissipation factor that is a strong function of the degree of cure and temperature of adhesive. From the investigation, it was found that the dissipation factor showed a trend similar to the cure rate of the adhesive.

  • The sintering phenomena, electrical resistivity, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of lead titanate ceramics modified by the partial substitution of La for Pb and Mn for Ti, (Pb1-1.5xLax)(Ti1-yMny)O3 ceramics, have been investigated. In (Pb1-1.5xLax)(Ti1-yMny)O3 system, with increasing lanthanum content, the realtive bulk density increased, but the Curie point and tetragonality (c/a) decreased. The tetragonal-to-cubic phase transition boundary existed in the range of 0.20

  • This paper describes the dielectric characteristics of composite dielectric film for pulsed power capacitors. The relative electric permittivity(${\varepsilon}'$) and the dielectric dissipation factor(tan$\delta$) were measured for polypropylene (PP) membranes, kraft paper for capacitors(CP) and composite dielectric films(PP+CP), respectively, in a frequency range of $1{\sim}10^4$[Hz], and in temperatures ranging from -50[$^{\circ}C$] to 110[$^{\circ}C$]. As a result, the variation of the electric permittivity was observed similarly for PP and CP. Dielectric dispersion was observed in frequency domain in PP, CP and composite dielectric films.

  • $MgTiO_3$ thin films were prepared by r.f. magnetron sputtering in order to prepare miniaturized NPO type MLCCs. $MgTiO_3$ films showed a polycrystalline structure of ilmenite characterized by the appearance of (110) and (202) peaks. The intensity of the peaks decreased with an increase in the chamber pressure due to the decrease of crystallinity which resulted from the decrease of kinetic energy of the sputtered atoms. The films annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ for 60min. showed a fine grained microstructure without micro-cracks. The grain size and roughness of the $MgTiO_3$ films decreased with the increase of chamber pressure. The average surface roughness was 1.425~0.313 nm for $MgTiO_3$ films prepared at 10~70 mTorr. $MgTiO_3$ films showed a dielectric constant of 17~19.7 and a dissipation factor of 2.1~4.9% at 1MHz. The dielectric constant of the films is similar to that of bulk ceramics. The dielectric constant and the dissipation factor decreased with the increase of the chamber pressure due to the decrease of grain size and crystallinity. The leakage current density was $10^{-5}\sim10^{-7}A/cm^2$ at 200kV/cm and this value decreased with the increase of the chamber pressure. The small grain size and smooth surface microstructure of the films deposited at high chamber pressure resulted in a low leakage current density. $MgTiO_3$ films showed a near zero temperature coefficient and satisfied the specifications for NPO type materials. The dielectric properties of the $MgTiO_3$ thin films prepared by sputtering suggest the feasibility of their application for MLCCs.

  • The effects of pyrochlore phase and micostructure on the dielectric properties. such as dielectric constant, dissipation factor, diffusensess coefficient and dielectric hysteresis characteristics, of Lead magnesium niobate(PMN) ceramics have been studied as a function of the amount of excess MgO. The pyrochlore phase in PMN was completely eliminated with the addition of 5 m/o excess MgO. Also, the dielectric constant and remanent polarization increased with increase in grain size, density and then decreased with grain growth inhibitation for further addition of excess MgO. The diffuseness coefficient showed a tendency nearly reverse to that for the dielectric constant and remanent polarization change.

  • In order to investigate the electrical properties for transformer oils which contains a Pure sodium chloride, the dielectric properties is made researches. To measure the dielectric loss of specimen, a coaxial cylindrical liquid electrode is used, and its geometric capacitance is confirmed to 16[pF]. And the dielectric dissipation factor, tan$\delta$, is measured by using the Video Bridge 2150. The thermal static oven with an automatically static temperature controller is used so as to support specific temperature to the specimen. This experiments for measuring the dielectric lass is performed at 20-120[$^{\circ}C$] in the temperature range, 30∼1.5x10$\^$5/[Hz] in the frequency range and 300∼1500[mV] in the voltage range. The result of experiment for the movement of carrier and the physical constants to contribute dielectric properties of specimen with a pure sodium chloride.
