  • The purpose of this study is to determine the developmental relationship between the maxillary primary central incisors and their permanent successor. The auther took 315 cases of lateral cephalogram of the children (males were 171, females were 141) Angular change of the teeth and horizontal and vertical linear change were observed. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The inclination of the long axes of both incisor teeth was relatively stable and labio-version of both incisore was significant at 7 years of age. 2. The distance between the incisal edge of the permanent central insisor and the resorbing apex of the primary maxillary central incisor remained within 2mm of each other, 3. Vertical growth of the maxillary anterior portion was greater than horizontal growth from 6 to 7 years of age. 4. There was not a significant sexual difference.

  • This current study was designed to explore the meaning of being a mother and a father in contemporary Korean society by examining their roles perceived by mothers and fathers with children at different developmental stages. A total of three hundred and ninety four couples with children aged from one to seventeen years were recruited for the study, and they were asked to complete a set of questionnaires about paternal and maternal roles each. A modified version of Generative Fathering Scales by Lee et al.(1999), was used to measure the roles perceived by fathers and mothers in two areas: (1) parenting responsibilities and (2) involvement in childrearing practices. The parental roles, as expected, were viewed differently by the surveyees with children at different ages: the younger child/ren a father has, the more involvement he emphasizes in childrearing. These results indicate that the roles of mothers and fathers should be considered in the context of developing children.

Caudal vertebrae and neural spine ossified in vertebra. 17 days after hatching, the average total length of the long hairs was 4.32 mm, pterotic and epiotic were ossified, and interhyal and subopercle were ossified. 52 days after hatching, the average total length of the juvenile was 18.2 mm, and lateral ethmoid, hypohyal ossified, vertebrae were parapophysis, and epural bone was osseous to the bone.

  • The author analyzed the morphological pattern of mandibles and lower third molars in order to study and predict the impaction of the developmental third molars. The subjects consisted of 37 males and 87 females with malocclusion. The following results were obtained: 1. The mandible was shown to be shorter in the impacted third molar group than in the erupted group, both in over-all length and in body length. 2. The developmental mesial angulation of the third molar to the mandibular plane was higher in the impacted third molar group. 3. There was a tendency for impacted third molars to be slightly larger than those which erupted except Class II malocclusion in female. 4. In the available space for the eruption of the third molar, significant space deficiency was found in association with the impacted third molar group compared with the erupted group.

  • This study was designed to assess the developmental sequence of children's understanding of social interaction and to test the effects of support conditions and behavioral domains on the understanding of social interaction. The subjects were one hundred 4- to 8-year-old children. The method was a doll play situation, composed of three different support conditions. Scalogram analysis was used to test the developmental sequence, and ANOVA and paired t-test were used to test the significance of differences in stages. The results of this study evidenced a sequential pattern in the 4- to 8-year-old children's understanding of social interaction. There were also significant differences between stages in the understanding of social interaction according to support conditions and behavioral domains. Higher levels of support produced higher stages of understanding and the understanding of positive social interactions were higher than those of negative social interactions at ages 4 and 5.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest that the history of science be introduced to students in the secondary school to help understand the developmental process of the scientific concepts, especially the concept 'heat'. Reviewing the national and international researches related to students' concept 'heat' revealed that many students tend to grasp the wrong concept of heat based on the caloric theory. Studies on definitions and explanations of the concept 'heat' and related concepts in secondary school science textbooks indicated that the way 'heat' was described could not help students to correct their misconceptions. In conclusion we need to include the historical and developmental process of scientific concepts such as heat in textbooks.
