An education program for parents has been developed in order to meet the needs of those who have problems in rearing their children. The program has been applied two times to a middle size group of parents who live in the urban and the country. The effectiveness of the program has been evaluated by taking pre- and post-tests. The test results suggest that the program has been effective in improving the parent's knowledge on all of the following areas, such as, developmental characteristics, individual traits, learning attitudes cultivation, sex education, locus of self control, parenting behavior and communication skills.
This study constructed a family life education program designed to help divorced parents. The purpose of this research was to develop long term education program for post-divorce adjustment. This program is consisted of 6 sessions aiming for understanding the grief process for adults and the six station of divorce, the recovery through forgiveness, children's response to divorce and coping strategy, the opened mind of parent-child relation, enhancing the self-esteem, the healthy single parent. We expect this program to be helpful in helping divorced parents'post-divorce adjustment, improving parent-child relation and helping future life of divorced parents.
The purposes of this research were to develop a family life education program for single-parent families in rural area and to investigate the effectiveness of education through continuous tests. For these objectives, the concurrent-type program for single-parent families that emphasized communication skills, psychological strategies, and the importance of social support system was constructed. The effectiveness of the program was evaluated by pre-, post- and delayed test through 88 single parents and their children and it was analyzed by paired t-test. The results suggested that the program was effective in improving self-esteem, self-confidence and in decreasing depression. This effectiveness was more in single-father families than single-mother families. But especially in children this effectiveness was diminished as times passed. For maintaining this effectiveness in program, more frequent and continuous following education was demanded.
This research explored parenting education programs for be college students and adolescent workers, and it was focused on determining whether different parenting education programs were needed for college students and adolescent workers. The participants were 254 college students in Suncheon and 135 adolescent industrial workers in Ulsan. Data were gathered via questionnaires and two-way ANOVA analyses of parenting effectiveness by sex and social status(college student, versus adolescent industrial worker), and by age and social status were performed. There were no significant differences based on sex, age, or social status, and no interaction effect. However, there were significant differences in adolescents' parenting effectiveness depending on childhood parenting experiences, parenting knowledge, and parenting education program experience. Among the predictors(sex, age, social status, childhood parenting experience, parenting knowledge, and parent education experiences) adolescents' childhood parenting experiences was the strongest variable for predicting parenting effectiveness. In this regard, the results confirmed Bronfenbrenner's Ecological System's Theory that family influences children's belief systems about parenting effectiveness in the microsystem. Furthermore, the results indicate that a different parenting education program is not needed for college students and adolescent industrial workers, respectively; instead, a more comprehensive parenting education program for all adolescents - regardless of social status is needed. And based on the present study's results, the importance of child development knowledge, and parent-child relationships in parenting education programs was also confirmed. From a broader social perspective, all adolescents are encouraged to participate in parenting education programs.

Methods : The period of this study is from March 15, 2015 to May 10, 2015. The participants of this study were thirty of parents who have children with developmental delays. The participants were randomly divided as experimental group (15 parents) and control group (15 parents) and an educational program was provided to those parents in the experimental group. The education program was developed based on sensory integration approach and 1:1 intensive individual counseling education. Short Sensory Profile (SSP) & a specially designed questionnaire were used to evaluate the parent's understanding of sensory processing ability of their children with developmental delays. The effect of between the groups was analyzed using an independent two samples t-test, and the effect of the intervention within a group was measured using the paired t-test. Results : After the intervention of parent education program, the total score of SSP was significantly decreased and the score of the parent questionnaire was significantly increased (p<.05). Conclusion : The results of this study show that parent education program with sensory integration approach is effective to improve the parent's understanding of sensory processing ability of their children with developmental delays. This study can be used as a good resource for therapists who is planning to provide sensory integration treatment for children with disabilities.

This longitudinal quasi-experimental research was conducted to develop parent role education program and to evaluate the effect of this program for mother-infant interaction, childrearing environment and infant development. The subjects were the healthy infants weighing over 2,500gm at birth, whose gestational age was more than 37weeks, and their healthy mothers. The sample consisted of eighteen mother-infant dyads for intervention group and sixteen dyads for control group. Data were collected from March 15th in 1999 to Jun 20th in 2000. The intervention group received programmed education consisted of discharge education, telephone counselling, and home visiting care. But control group were collected data without programmed education. In this study, the Nursing Child Assessment Teaching Scale(NCATS) devised by Barnard was used to determine the mother-infant interaction, HOME was used to determine the childrearing environment, and Griffiths mental development scale was used to determine the infant development. The data were analyzed using SPSS Win using chi-square test, t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA. This study was focused on the results of twelve months time point. Summaries of the results were as follows: 1. There was no significant difference in mother-infant interaction(NCATS) between intervention group and control group. But both of two groups showed significantly higher in interaction score at twelve months than at six months in the subscales of social-emotional growth fostering, and responsiveness to caregiver. 2. There was no significant difference in childrearing environment(HOME) between two groups at twelve months. But when each subscale of HOME was examined, intervention group showed higher scores in the dimensions of maternal involvement with child(p=.001), and maternal emotional-verbal responsivity(p=.048). 3. There was no significant difference in GQ of the Griffiths mental development scale between two groups, although significant difference was found in performance subscale. 4. Infant development at twelve months showed significant correlation with mother-infant interaction and childrearing environment at six months, although mother-infant interaction and childrearing environment at twelve months did not show significant correlations with infant development at twelve months. 5. Developmental scores at six months showed significant correlations with variety in daily stimulation, and mother's emotional, verbal responsivity, whereas developmental scores at twelve months showed significant correlations with acceptance of child behavior at six months, and appropriate play material at twelve months. In conclusion, the maternal education program for primipara showed long term effect in some categories in organizing the childrearing environment, and fostering the infant development. We suggest further study and implications of parent role education program for high risk parents such as parents in low economic status or with premature babies.
The present study employed a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of a 16-week parent education program based on Respected Parents & Respected Children(RPRC). 124 mothers were assigned to two groups, an intervention (n = 62) group and a waiting (n = 62) group. Mothers in the intervention group participated in the program. After termination of the preventive intervention, differences between pre- and post-tests were examined in maternal characteristics (i.e., depression and anger, maltreatment and general parenting behavior, and parenting efficacy and stress) and preschoolers' aggression. The results indicated that mothers in the intervention group had greater reductions in self-reported negative characteristics. Mothers in the waiting group also reported significant decreases in anger, physical assault and permissiveness/neglect. There was no significant reduction in levels of aggression in the preschoolers. These findings support the argument that a parent education program based on RPRC can be very effective, especially in changing maternal characteristics positively that are crucial to child outcomes.
