In order to obtain baseline data for the development of an educational program on breastfeeding, a survey was carried out to investigate infant feeding practices, the characteristics the subjects have in common, and the factors that influence the feeding methods among women in Seoul and the Chungbuk area. Subjects included 671 lactating mothers who visited public health centers or pediatric clinics between December 1999 and February 2000, and were interviewed using a questionnaire. The results were as follows : With respect to feeding methods, the incidence of breastfeeding, formula feeding, mixed feeding and formula feeding switched from breastfeeding was 20.6%, 29.8%, 11.6%, and 38.0%, respectively. With respect to the characteristics the subjects had in common, the incidence of women who planned their infants' feeding methods before pregnancy, during pregancy, and after delivery was 48.7%, 31.0%, and 20.3%, respectively. The incidence of women who started breastfeeding in the hospital after delivery was 38.8%. About seventy seven percet of the subjects had not previously attended an educational program on breastfeeding, and most of these wanted to participate in the future in an educational program to learn about breastfeeding. Some of the topics they were interested in were“Nutritional Management for Sufficient Breast Milk”(60.3%),“Breast Care”(25.0%), and“Correct Nursing Positions”(9.8%). Most (88.2%) of the women who breastfeed suffered from physical discomforts including discomfort of the waist, and legs and discomfort due to cracked or sore nipples. “Insufficient breast milk”was the main reason for breastfeeding cessation or for switching to formula feeding. With respect to formula feeding practices, the main reasons for selecting a specific brand of formula were“the same brand the hospital used after delivery”(34.3%) and“an advertised brand”(23.3%). The strongest factor for promoting breastfeeding was“the support of husband or parents”, next were “breastfeeding in the hospital after delivery”and“planning to breastfeed before pregnancy”in that order. The characteristics the subjects had in common relating to formula feeding were“mother's job”,“high economic level”,“Caesarian section”and “planning to breastfeed after delivery”. In conclusion, it is recommended that breastfeeding be pro-moted, and educational programs be developed and offered as soon as possible to each group which had unfavorable attitudes toward breastfeeding. In addition, the monitoring and supervision of formula advertisements is required to protect consumers from the adverse effects of exaggerated advertising.

Some statistical characteristics of deepwater waves along the Korean coast have been investigated using various sources of wave measurement and hindcasting data. For very large waves comparable to design waves, it is recommended to use the average value of the empirical formulas proposed by Shore Protection Manual in 1977 and by Goda in 2003 for the relation between significant wave height and period. The standard deviation of significant wave periods non-dimensionalized with respect to the mean value for a certain significant wave height varies between 0.04 and 0.21 with a typical value of 0.1 depending upon different regions and different ranges of significant wave heights. The mean and standard deviation of the principal deepwater wave direction are presented at the 106 coastal grid points along the Korean coast. For relatively large waves, the probability density function of the directional spreading parameter $s_{max}$ is expressed as a lognormal distribution. The most suitable frequency spectrum in the Korean coast is the TMA spectrum. The probability density function of the peak enhancement factor $\gamma$ is also expressed as a lognormal distribution, with its mean value of 2.94, which is close to the value in the North Sea.
Since the preexisting evaluation methods of landslide susceptibility take somehow long time to determine the slope stability based on the field survey and laboratory analysis, there are several problems to acquire immediate evaluation results in the field. In order to overcome the previously mentioned problems and incorrect evaluation results induced by some subjective evaluation criteria and methods, this study tried to develop a method of landslide susceptibility by a quantitative and objective evaluation approach based on the field survey. Therefore, this study developed an evaluation chart for landslide susceptibility on natural terrain using the AHP analysis method to predict landslide hazards on the field sites. The AHP analysis was performed by a questionnaire to several specialists who understands mechanism and influential factors of landslide. Based on the questionnaire, weighting values of criteria and alternatives to influence landslide triggering were determined by the AHP analysis. According to the scoring results of the analysed weighting values, slope angle is the most significant factor. Permeability, water contents, porosity, lithology, and elevation have the significance to the landslide susceptibility in a descending order. Based on the assigned scores of each criterion and alternatives of the criteria, an evaluation chart for landslide susceptibility was suggested. The evaluation chart makes it possible for a geologist to evaluate landslide susceptibility with a total score summed up each alternative score.
The shear strength has been managed as an important factor in soil mechanics. The shear strength estimation model was developed to evaluate the shear strength using only a few soil properties by the linear regression analysis model which is one of the statistical methods. The shear strength is divided into two part; one is the internal friction angle (${\phi}$) and the other is the cohesion (c). Therefore, some valid soil factors among the results of soil tests are selected through the correlation analysis using SPSS and then the model are formulated by the linear regression analysis based on the relationship between factors. Also, the developed model is compared with the result of direct shear test to prove the rationality of model. As the results of analysis about relationship between soil properties and shear strength, the internal friction angle is highly influenced by the void ratio and the dry unit weight and the cohesion is mainly influenced by the void ratio, the dry unit weight and the plastic index. Meanwhile, the shear strength estimated by the developed model is similar with that of the direct shear test. Therefore, the developed model may be used to estimate the shear strength of soils in the same condition of study area.
Optical frequency modulated fiber optic interferometric sensor was developed to sense the mechanical quantities, such as displacement, strain, force etc. It has been difficult to distinguish whether the increase of the mechanical quantities or the decrease of the quantities measured by the conventional fiber optic interferometric sensors because their signals only have a sinusoidal wave pattern related to the change of mechanical quantities. In this study, in order to measure the mechanical quantifies with the distinction of the changing direction of the quantities, the fiber of optic Michelson interferometric sensor was simply constructed by the laser light modulated with saw tooth wave pattern. The output signal of the sensor was controlled as the sinusoidal wave. The signal processing was based on the counting of the wave number of the output signal during constant time duration. The strain was determined by the cumulative value of the wave number producted by the gage factor. In order to verify the strain measurement capability of this sensor, the strain increase-decrease test was performed by universal testing machine installed with the aluminum specimen bonded with the fiber optic sensor and electrical strain gage. In the result of the test, the strain from the fiber optic sensor had a good agreement with the values from the electrical strain gage.
Diabetic retinopathy is one of major complications of diabetes mellitus, which is associated with the dysfunction of retina. It has been reported that the onset of diabetic retinopathy is related to the activation of renin-angiotensin system (RAS). Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), which converts angiotensin I into angiotensin II, is a key component of RAS. Among many growth factors, vascualr endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is an important cytokine in the neovasculization of retina, which is a characteristics of diabetic retinopathy. However, the relationship between ACE and VEGF was not elucidated in diabetic retinopathy. Thus, this study was conducted to examine the protective effect of captopril, an ACE inhibitor, in the retina of streptozotocin (STZ)-treated diabetic rats. In present study, STZ-treated diabetic rats exhibited the increase of VEGF levels in serum and retina. The serum levels of VEGF in STZ-treated diabetic rats was not blocked by the treatment of captopril. However, the retina levels of VEGF in STZ-treated diabetic rats was blocked by the treatment of captopril, suggesting the local action of captopril in retina. Immunohistochemical analysis also revealed that the retina of STZ-treated diabetic rats manifested the increase of ganglion cell layers, outer nuclear layers, and inner nuclear layers, which were also prevented by the treatment of captopril. In conclusion, captopril prevented the expression of VEGF in the retina of STZ-treated diabetic rats.

Companies can build a close relationship by providing benefits that consumers want. As long relationships between consumer and company are stressed these days, it is very important for the growth and development of companies to assess what benefits consumers perceive and how they reflect them to their buying behaviors. Thus, this study aims to examine the relational benefits that consumers perceive in internet clothing purchase and how these perceived relational benefits affects relational commitment and customer loyalty. This study surveyed 343 male and female in their 20s and 30s for empirical analysis who have ever purchased clothing through internet shopping malls. Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, ANOVA analysis, Duncan test, and ${\chi}^2$-test are carried out using SPSS for Windows 12.0 for statistical analysis. The results are as follows. First, the dimensions of relational benefits perceived by consumers in internet clothing purchase are found 6 including customization, economic, psychological, social, shopping convenience, and informational. Second, consumers' perception of relational benefits significantly affect on relational commitment and loyalty, thus consumers with greater recognition of relational benefits have higher relational commitment and loyalty. Third, based on the dimensions of consumer's perceived relational benefit, consumers are categorized into 6 types: group perceiving social benefit, group perceiving economic/shopping convenience benefit, group perceiving shopping convenience benefit, group perceiving customization benefit, group perceiving informational benefit, and group perceiving psychological benefit. The group perceiving customization benefits have higher relational commitment and loyalty than the others. It is expected that this study will help internet companies establish customer relationship management strategies, which are needed to promote relationships with customers and to enhance customers' loyalty to internet shopping malls.
Objectives: The pleiotrophin (PTN) and midkine (MK) are secreted heparin-binding neurokines that share 50% sequence homology. PTN and MK are expressed in the range of primary human tumors. The association of PTN and MK with carcinogenesis, enhancement of plasminogen activator activity and angiogenic factor are reported. Patients with endometriosis are characterized by the ability of the endometrium to implant; angiogenic and growth factors may play a significant role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis. To test the hypothesis that higher expression of PTN and MK in endometrium from women with endometriosis might be increase angiogenesis and growth ectopic endometriosis implants, we investigated PTN and MK expression by quantitative and competitive polymerase chain reaction (QC-PCR) in endometrium from women with and without endometriosis throughout the menstrual cycle. Design: MK and PTN mRNA expression in endomeoium from women with endometriosis and control patients without endometriosis were determined by QC-PCR throughout the menstrual cycle. Methods: Endometrial tissue was obtained from 25 patients with severe endometriosis and 30 patients without endometriosis undergoing hysterectomy or endometrial biopsy. Stage of endometrial cycle and a diagnosis of endometriosis were confirmed histologically. Total RNA was extracted and reverse transcribed into c-DNA. QC-PCR was performed to evaluate PTN and MK mRNA expression. Results were analysed by Post Hoc test. Results: MK and PTN were expressed throughout the menstrual cycle in both groups. MK expression was higher in follicular phase than luteal phase in endometrium from normal women. endometrium from endometriosis patients showed increased expression of PTN and MK compared to endometrium from normal women in the luteal phase (p<0.05). Conclusion: Our results suggest that uterine endometrium from women with endometriosis expresses higher levels of MK and PTN than endometrium from normal women during luteal phase. Increased MK and PTN expression may be related to the initiation of ectopic endometrial implants and their subsequent peritoneal invasion.

When the type and ratio of male-sterile plants in $F_1$ hybrids collected from several seed companies were investigated, there were differences in the male-sterile type depending upon region, seed company and variety group. The differences were inferred due to the easiness in breeding of maintainer line among the variety groups. American seed companies mainly used petaloid type male sterility with Imperater group varieties. European companies used brown anther type male sterility mainly with Nantes group but some companies used petaloid type also in varieties that were different from Nantes group. Asian companies (Japan, Korea) used both types with Chantaney and Kuroda group varieties, but one type was mainly used depending on individual seed company. Only one type of male-sterility in one variety was observed and the results were agreed well with other's results that male-sterility type was determined by cytoplasm factor. Some breeding lines were backcrossed to both types of cytoplasm (Sa, Sp) for maintainer line selection. We could select 15 maintainer lines from 20 lines in petaloid cytoplasm (Sp) and 3 from 4 lines in brown cytoplasm (Sa). In petaloid cytoplasm, maintainer lines can be selected at considerably high frequency. But in brown anther cytoplasm, the used materials are too restricted to tell general frequency maintainer lines.
The relationships between environmental factors and the dynamics of the microcrustacean community, including planktonic or epiphytic cladocerans and copepods, were studied at Upo Wetlands from 2001 to 2010. Among 10 identified cladoceran taxon, epiphytic cladocerans (Alona, Camptocercus, Simocephalus, Diaphanosoma, Sida) and planktonic cladocerans (Bosmina, Ceriodaphnia, Daphnia, Moina, Scapholeberis) showed distinctive patterns in appearance throughout the year. Overall, epiphytic cladocerans were more abundant during the aquatic plant development season (May to Nov.), planktonic cladocerans were similarly distributed throughout the seasons, but showed a lower density than epiphytic cladocerans. The seasonal changes in copepods abundance showed a similar seasonal pattern when compared to epiphytic cladocerans. Planktonic cladocerans showed no significant relationship to rainfall and physico-chemical factors, while epiphytic cladocerans exhibited a distinct relationship with rainfall and water temperature (n=120, p<0.01), and a negative relationship with pH and conductivity (n=120, p<0.05). Among the epiphytic cladocerans, the Alona and Diaphanosoma showed a distinctive correlation with environmental factors, and their density was affected by rainfall and water temperature (n=120, p<0.01). Copepods had a positive relationship with rainfall (n=120, p<0.01) and water temperature (n=120, p<0.05). In conclusion, changes in rainfall and water temperature can affect the seasonal changes of microcrustacean community and abundance in Upo Wetlands.
