  • Cirsii Japonici Herba(CJ) is a wild perennial herb found in many areas of Korea as well as China and Japan, which has been used to treat bleeding and inflammation. Silibinin is the main flavonoid extracted from milk thistle (Cirsii Japonici Herba). It exhibits potent antioxidant activity and anti-inflammatory effect. In this study, the effect of CJ and silibinin extract on lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation was investigated using MTS assay, RT-PCR, western blot, and nitric oxide detection on mouse BV2 microglial cell lines. In the present results, CJ and silibinin extract suppressed nitric oxide production by inhibiting the lipopolysaccharide-stimulated enhancement of COX-2 and iNOS gene expression in BV2 cells. Moreover, CJ and silibinin also repressed some lipopolysaccharide-induced signaling molecules. Importantly, catalase-induced COX-2 and iNOS expression needed activations of $NF-{\kappa}B$, PI3K/Akt, and MAPK, which were important for the transcriptional up-regulation of COX-2 and iNOS. CJ and silibinin interaction on BV2 cells down-regulated $NF-{\kappa}B$-dependent proinflammatory cytokine (IL-2,IL-6) expression. They are involved in the regulation of inflammatory responses. These data shows that CJ and silibinin exerts anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, probably by suppression of COX-2 and iNOS synthase expression in BV2 microglial cells.

  • The web ontology language(OWL) has been used by ontology designers to construct ontology. In order to derive hidden information(concept subsumption, concept satisfiability and realization) of OWL ontology, a number of OWL reasoners have been introduced. But most reasoners simply report these information without process for any arbitrary entailment and unsatisfiable concept derived from a OWL ontologies. In this paper, we propose Minimum Expression Axiom Set(MEXS) detection and storing for debugging unsatisfiable concepts in ontology. In order to detect MEXS, we need to find axiom to cause inconsistency in ontology. Therefore, our work focused on two key aspects: given a inconsistency ontology, identifying the roots of axioms to occur unsatisfiable and derived axioms from among them; and extracting MEXS. Our results can be applicable to all application, which is at the basis of the description logic.

  • Nanoparticles have been studied as therapeutic and imaging agents for the early detection and cure of cancer, Cancer Theranostics. Nanoparticles were considered to effectively target cancer cells due to Enhanced Permeability and Retention (EPR) effect and most nanoparticles have been evaluated by using spherical shapes. However, the problem that the EPR effect is not so effective for human cancer therapy was recently brought up. Therefore, in this study, we suggest novel discoidal nanoparticles to overcome this problem, focusing on their manufacturing process and quality control. Herein, we demonstrate the improved manufacturing method of discoidal nanoparticles and their potential to apply to MCF 7, human breast cancer treatment.

  • Due to sharp depth transition, big holes may be found in the novel view that is synthesized by depth-image-based rendering (DIBR). A hole-filling method based on disparity map is proposed. One important aspect of the method is that the disparity map of destination image is used for hole-filling, instead of the depth image of reference image. Firstly, the big hole detection based on disparity map is conducted, and the start point and the end point of the hole are recorded. Then foreground pixels and background pixels are distinguished for hole-dilating according to disparity map, so that areas with matching errors can be determined and eliminated. In addition, parallaxes of pixels in the area with holes and matching errors are changed to new values. Finally, holes are filled with background pixels from reference image according to these new parallaxes. Experimental results show that the quality of the new view after hole-filling is quite well; and geometric distortions are avoided in destination image, in contrast to the virtual view generated by depth-smoothing methods and image inpainting methods. Moreover, this method is easy for hardware implementation.

  • Replacement policy is one of the key factors determining the effectiveness of a cache. The LRU replacement policy has remained the standard for caches for many years. However, the traditional LRU has ineffective performance in zero-reuse line intensive workloads, although it performs well in high temporal locality workloads. To address this problem, We propose a new replacement policy; DCR(Dynamic Counter based Replacement) policy. A temporal locality of workload dynamically changes across time and DCR policy is based on the detection of these changing. DCR policy improves cache miss rate over a traditional LRU policy, by as much as 2.7% at maximum and 0.47% at average.

  • SONAR detection performance is one of the key survivability factors in underwater weapon systems. In order to catch the acoustic ability of SONAR, multilayer SONAR structures are analyzed using the elastic theory. The applied results for the simple models are compared with those from commercial program, ANSYS, and the reliable results are obtained. The analysis of sound pressure level (SPL) and echo reduction (ER) by the thickness change of multilayer SONAR structures are performed using the verified elastic theory. As the thickness of anechoic layer is increased, SPL is distributed evenly and ER is increased slightly with the frequency. In decoupling layers and steel layers, SPL are hardly changed and ER is slightly decreased with the thickness increase of those layers. SPL and ER are not affected by the thickness change of the carbon reinforced plastic (CRP) layer. Therefore, to improve the acoustic ability of multilayer SONAR structures, the thickness increase of the anechoic layer and minimization of the decoupling layer, steel layer and CRP layer are desirable.

  • Small unmanned platforms maneuvering underwater are the key naval future forces, utilized as the asymmetric power in war. As a method of detecting and identifying such platforms, we introduce a property estimation technique based on an iterative numerical analysis. The property estimation technique can estimate not only the position of a target but also its physical properties. Moreover, it will have a potential in detecting and classifying still target or multiple targets. In this study, we have conducted the property estimation of an small underwater target using the data acquired from the lake experiment. As a result, it shows that the properties of a small platform may be roughly estimated from the in site data even using one channel.

  • The carrier transport is a key factor that determines the device performances of semiconductor devices such as solar cells and transistors [1]. Particularly, devices composed of in amorphous semiconductors, the transport is often restricted by carrier trapping, associated with various defects. So far, the trapping has been studied for as-grown films at room temperature; however it has not been studied during growth under plasma processing. Here, we demonstrate the detection of trapped carriers in hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) films during plasma processing, and discuss the carrier trapping and defect kinetics. Using an optically pump-probe technique, we detected the trapped carriers (electrons) in an a-Si:H films during growth by a hydrogen diluted silane discharge [2]. A device-grade intrinsic a-Si:H film growing on a glass substrate was illuminated with pump and probe light. The pump induced the photocurrent, whereas the pulsed probe induced an increment in the photocurrent. The photocurrent and its increment were separately measured using a lock-in technique. Because the increment in the photocurrent originates from emission of trapped carriers, and therefore the trapped carrier density was determined from this increment under the assumption of carrier generation and recombination dynamics [2]. We found that the trapped carrier density in device grade intrinsic a-Si:H was the order of 1e17 to 1e18 cm-3. It was highly dependent on the growth conditions, particularly on the growth temperature. At 473K, the trapped carrier density was minimized. Interestingly, the detected trapped carriers were homogeneously distributed in the direction of film growth, and they were decreased once the film growth was terminated by turning off the discharge.

  • Recently, as mobile internet usage has been increasing rapidly, malware attacks through user's web browsers has been spreading in a way of social engineering or drive-by downloading. Existing defense mechanism against drive-by download attack mainly focused on final download sites and distribution paths. However, detection and prevention of injection sites to inject malicious code into the comprised websites have not been fully investigated. In this paper, for the purpose of improving defense mechanisms against these malware downloads attacks, we focus on detecting the injection site which is the key source of malware downloads spreading. As a result, in addition to the current URL blacklist techniques, we proposed the enhanced method which adds features of detecting the injection site to prevent the malware spreading. We empirically show that the proposed method can effectively minimize malware infections by blocking the source of the infection spreading, compared to other approaches of the URL blacklisting that directly uses the drive-by browser exploits.
