  • As city tourism has recently been evaluated as a major indicator of urban competitiveness, strengthening the role of cities as tourist destinations has received more attention. However, industrialization and urbanization of many cities lead to population decline, extinction of traditional industries, and deterioration of living environments, weakening urban functions and competitiveness. Thus, it is essential for declining cities to build a measure to restore urban competitiveness by enhancing urban functions. Accordingly, this study focused on socio-cultural urban regeneration by exploring physical spaces for tourism destinations in declining cities. Different from general tourist destinations, tourism destinations of urban regeneration have a temporal perspective covering the past, present, and future. How does the temporal perspective of urban regeneration tourist destinations affect tourists' satisfaction and behavioral intention? In order to address these questions, this study conducts an empirical analysis based on structural equation modeling (SEM) using the sample of tourists who have visited urban regeneration tourism destinations. With SEM, this paper investigates structural relationships across variables by testing the hypothesis established in the proposed research model. The results show that precious memories of the past are the most important factor for tourists to visit urban regeneration tourist destinations. The empirical findings of this study will contribute to the research areas of urban tourism, urban regeneration tourism, and urban regeneration tourism destinations. In addition, this study can provide practical implications to develop socio-cultural contents of urban regeneration areas as tourism resources to establish plans for urban regeneration projects and achieve sustainable development strategies.

  • Currently, 230 domestic tourist destinations have been designated, established, and operated in accordance with the Tourism Promotion Act. According to the results of preceding research, more than 30% of them have been getting into the stagnation or decline stage. This is becoming a burden to local governments operating and managing tourist destinations, making it necessary to seek resolution measures. Based on the survey results, the activation elements of stagnant/declined tourist destinations regeneration were drawn through the Delphi Technique and Analytic Hierarchy Process. And then the priority and weight of the drawn activation elements of stagnant/declined tourist destinations regeneration were drawn for the sake of reasonable project progress of tour site regeneration. In the results of the analysis, as activation elements of stagnant/declined tourist destinations regeneration, a total of seven upper-attributes, 23 sub-attributes, and 66 detailed-elements were drawn. It would be possible to raise the efficiency of projects and rational decision-making when executing future tourist destinations regeneration projects by using the activation elements drawn. Also, the drawn elements could be applied to the actual tourist destinations regeneration projects as measures for the stagnant/declined domestic tourist destinations' contribution to the vitalization of local economy based on sustainability, prohibition of thoughtless development of domestic tourism projects, and also efficient use of tourism resources.

  • This study began with the problem of establishing the identity of the region through tourism storytelling and the need for economic and cultural recovery. Thus, we analyze the attributes of tourist-aware tourism storytelling, authenticity through experience in tourist attractions, and structural and causal relationships between behaviors. Studies have shown that the attributes of tourism storytelling's sensibility, educationality, ease of understanding, interest and theme have a significant impact on tourists' authenticity experiences. And it was confirmed that the authenticity experience of tourists has a positive impact on tourists' intentions of visiting and oral intentions. This study is of high academic significance in that it applied the attributes of storytelling, which had been studied in the existing linguistics and humanities, to Namwon, a representative cultural tourist destination in Korea. In addition, in order for Namwon to grow into a global cultural tourist destination, it is necessary to develop tourism storytelling using unique storytelling attributes and local resources, and furthermore, it is meaningful to suggest that various contents and services should be developed.

  • Recently, alleys, villages and traditional market spaces have been recreated as complex cultural spaces due to urban renewal or village community policies. However, previous studies only refer to buildings such as museums and libraries in dealing with complex cultural spaces. The purpose of this study is to suggest the recreated complex cultural space as a natural convergence type and analyze its characteristics. Therefore, this study aims to reestablish the concept and type of the newly created complex cultural space. For this study, Busan Bosu-dong Bookstores Alley, Daegu Kim Gwangseok-street, Andong Traditional Market and Andong Shin-sedong Mural Village were selected as research examples. As a result of the study, the natural convergence space reflects the locality of the contents constituting the space, and the various values are convergenced. And this type of space is being reborn as an advanced case of urban regeneration and serves as a representative tourist destination in the region. As a next study of this study, we proposed social studies such as quantitative research and qualitative research.
