This paper derives three estimation methods for the between group variance component for serially correlated random model. To compare their estimation capability, three designs having different degree of unbalancedness are considered. The so-called empirical quantile dispersion graphs(EQDGs) used to compare estimation methods as well as designs. The proposed conditional ANOVA estimation is robust for design unbalancedness, however, ML estimation is preferred to the conditional AOVA and REML estimation regardless of design unbalancedness and correlation coefficient.
For highly reliable devices it is often defined to "fail" when its performance degrades below a specified value. In this paper we consider a method for optimally designing accelerated degradation tests(ADTs) in which the performance over exposure time and stress has Weibull distribution. For the product whose performance has Weibull distribution, the optimum plan - low stress level and sample proportions allocated to each test condition - is obtained, which minimize the asymptotic variance of maximum likelihood estimator of a stated quantile at design stress. We also present compromise ADTs plan that can be used for the practical purpose.
For Weibull distributed lifetimes, this paper presents asymptotically optimal accelerated life test plans for practical applications under intermittent inspection and type-I censoring. Computational results show that the asymptotic variance of a low quantile at the design stress as optimal criterion is insensitive to the number of inspections at overstress levels. Sensitivity analyses indicate that optimal plans are robust enough to moderate departures of estimated failure probabilities at the design and high stresses as input parameters to plan accelerated life tests from their true values. Monte Carlo simulation for small sample study on optimal accelerated life test plans developed by the asymptotic maximum likelihood theory is conducted. Simulation results suggest that optimal plans are satisfactory for sample size in practice.
For the highly reliable products, an accelerated degradation test (ADT) is a useful tool which has been employed in industry to obtain reliability-related information within an affordable amount of time and cost. In an ADT, as all other reliability tests, it is important to carefully design the ADT beforehand to obtain estimates of the quantities of interest as precisely as possible. In this paper, optimal ADTs are developed assuming that the constant-stress loading method is employed and the degradation characteristic follows a Wiener process. Under the constraint that the total cost does not exceed a pre-specified budget, the stress levels, the number of test units allocated to each stress level and the number of measurement (termination time) are determined such that the asymptotic variance of the maximum likelihood estimator of the q-th quantile of the lifetime distribution at the use condition is minimized.
This paper presents the optimal and practical constant-stress accelerated life test plans for the lognormal lifetime distribution tinder assumptions of intermittent inspection and Type-I censoring. In an optimal plan, the low stress level and the proportions of test units allocated at each stress are determined under given inspection scheme and number of inspections such that the asymptotic variance of the maximum likelihood estimator of a certain quantile at use condition is minimized. Although the practical plan adopts the same design criterion, it involves three rather than two overstress levels in order to compromise the practical deficiencies of the optimal plan. Computational experiments are conducted to choose an allocation plan and a inspection scheme of the practical plan and to compare with test plans over a range of parameter values.
Purpose - The structural changes of Korean agriculture are complex due to heterogeneous production processes and farms' features. This study analyzed trends of dualism in Korean agriculture over the period 2000-15 based on farm-level data to clarify the specific trends of dualism in terms of farm income, farm-size, and farm operators' age. From the results of this study, we would be able to understand the features of structural changes in Korean agriculture more profoundly. Research design, data, and methodology - We incorporated farm-level data in South Korea: Agricultural census and Farm household economy survey. As measures of inequality, we used size-weighted quantiles, and normalized Gini coefficients as well as mean and conventional quantiles. The size-weighted quantiles are more robust to changes in the number of small farms, but they are more sensitive to changes in the distribution of farm-size. Thus, they would be more useful to identify trends of dualism of Korean agriculture. Results - The results show that the farmland distribution of crop farms became more skewed and dispersed. However, the herd distribution of livestock farms became more concentrated. To be specific, their mean and 1st quantile increases more rapidly than their size-weighted 2nd quantile and size-weighted 3rd quantile. Gini coefficients of livestock farms regarding their herd distribution decreased by 0.1 on average. In the case of income distribution, the results indicate that the polarization regarding farm household/agricultural/non-agricultural income became more severe. However, we also found that the distribution of transfer income became concentrated continuously. The results imply that transfer income including subsidies would decrease farm income polarization. Lastly, during the study periods, Korean farms were aging over time, and age distribution of them more concentrated. Conclusions - The structure of Korean agriculture has been changing, even though the absolute size of it decreased over time. Land (herd) distribution became more dispersed (concentrated). Inequality regarding agricultural income became more severe, and it made farm household income more polarized even though transfer income would decrease income gaps among farms. Lastly, farms continue to age regardless of farm types and this might affect the structural changes in Korean agriculture in the future.

This paper on planning constant accelerated life test is assumed that parameters for a lognormal life distribution are depended on changes of stresses. The proposed test plans are optimum in that they minimize the asymptotic variance of maximum likelihood estimator of a specified quantile at the design stress. The optimal amount of low stress level ${\xi}_{L}$ and optimal sample proportion ${\pi}$ to be allocated at low stress level are obtained when the ratio of scales at high stress level and design stress level is unknown.
Berthing energy is majorly influenced by the berthing velocity. It is necessary to design an appropriate berthing velocity for each pier, since excessive berthing velocity can cause berthing accident causing damage to the ship and pier. In this study, as a statistical approach for berthing velocity, the probability distributions suitable for the berthing velocities were confirmed using the K-S test, the A-D test and the Q-Q plot. As a result, the frequency distribution of the berthing velocity was found to be suitable using the Weibull distribution as well as the lognormal distribution. Additionally, the predicted values obtained through estimation of the berthing velocity using the concept of probability of exceedance in this study is proposed as a reference of design berthing velocity. It can be observed that the design berthing velocity is set to be somewhat low so that it does not practically match with the reality. This study and its results can be expected to contribute to the development of a proper design velocity calculation method.
Seasonality of hydrologic extreme variable is a significant element from a water resources managemental point of view. It is closely related with various fields such as dam operation, flood control, irrigation water management, and so on. Hydrological frequency analysis conjunction with partial duration series rather than block maxima, offers benefits that include data expansion, analysis of seasonality and occurrence. In this study, nonstationary frequency analysis based on the Bayesian model has been suggested which effectively linked with advantage of POT (peaks over threshold) analysis that contains seasonality information. A selected threshold that the value of upper 98% among the 24 hours duration rainfall was applied to extract POT series at Seoul station, and goodness-fit-test of selected GEV distribution has been examined through graphical representation. Seasonal variation of location and scale parameter ($\mu$ and $\sigma$) of GEV distribution were represented by Fourier series, and the posterior distributions were estimated by Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulation. The design rainfall estimated by GEV quantile function and derived posterior distribution for the Fourier coefficients, were illustrated with a wide range of return periods. The nonstationary frequency analysis considering seasonality can reasonably reproduce underlying extreme distribution and simultaneously provide a full annual cycle of the design rainfall as well.
Purpose: This paper is concerned with optimally designing accelerated degradation test (ADT) plans based on a gamma process for the degradation model. Methods: By minimizing the asymptotic variance of the MLE of the q-th quantile of the lifetime distribution at the use condition, the test stress levels and the proportion of test units allocated to each stress level are optimally determined. Results: The optimal plans of ADT are developed for various combination of parameters. In addition, a method for determining the sample size is developed, and sensitivity analysis procedures are illustrated with an example. Conclusion: It is important to optimally design ADT based on a gamma process under the condition that a degradation process should be always nonnegative and strictly increasing over time.
