An Optimal Approach to Rotational Vibration Suppression using Disturbance Observer in Disk Drive Systems

  • This paper investigates the design of disturbance observer for rotational vibration suppression in disk drive systems. The design aims to provide an optimal controller which satisfies both vibration performance and robust stability. It consists of an inversion method, a special filter, and optimization scheme. Firstly a new inversion method is introduced, which provides more accurate inversion compared to conventional zero phase error method. The inversion is to deal with unstable zeros in the plant model. Secondly a special filter for disturbance selection is given, which features adjustable gain and band pass characteristics so that it enables flexible shaping of the loop considering the trade-off between performance and stability margins. And finally the parameters of disturbance observer are optimized in conjunction with external disturbance model. Simulation and experiment on commercial hard disk drives confirm that the design is very effective to such disturbance which is hard to be handled by conventional approach.

Can Coupon Holding Duration and Message Framing Increase the Effect of Push Notifications on Mobile Coupon Redemption? Evidence from A Randomized Field Experiment

  • We propose a mobile coupon strategy designed to increase the effect of push notifications on redemption. The proposed strategy recommends that firms deliver mobile coupons with distant expiration dates and remind them through push notifications framed negatively once these expiration dates become imminent, rather than frequently sending coupons with near expiration dates. We test the effectiveness of the proposed strategy using data collected through a randomized field experiment. The findings indicate that push notifications enhance coupon redemption rates for coupons that are held longer by customers than those that are recently received. Additionally, we found that sending negatively framed push notification messages to remind customers of imminent coupon expiration dates further resulted in higher coupon redemption rates. The findings can be employed to offer useful guidance on how to effectively design mobile coupons for achieving higher redemption rates.

  • Multiple object association is an important capability in visual surveillance system with multiple cameras. In this paper, we introduce locally initiating line-based object association with the parallel projection camera model, which can be applicable to the situation without the common (ground) plane. The parallel projection camera model supports the camera movement (i.e. panning, tilting and zooming) by using the simple table based compensation for non-ideal camera parameters. We propose the threshold distance based homographic line generation algorithm. This takes account of uncertain parameters such as transformation error, height uncertainty of objects and synchronization issue between cameras. Thus, the proposed algorithm associates multiple objects on demand in the surveillance system where the camera movement dynamically changes. We verify the proposed method with actual image frames. Finally, we discuss the strategy to improve the association performance by using the temporal and spatial redundancy.

한·중 쇼핑몰 웹 사이트의 디자인 요인에 대한 비교분석 (A Study on Comparison Analysis of the Design Factors between Korea and China Shopping mall Websites)

  • 본 논문에서는 한국과 중국의 쇼핑몰 웹 사이트 디자인 요인에 차이가 있는지에 대해 15개의 가설을 설정하여 연구하였다. 한국의 쇼핑몰 웹 사이트로는 "G마켓"과, 중국의 쇼핑몰 웹 사이트로는 "taobao마켓"을 선정하였다. 쇼핑몰 웹 사이트 디자인 요인으로는 (1)색상과 디자인, (2)사진, 그래픽, 글자의 크기, (3)정보전달의 명확성(이해성), (4)웹 사이트 구조, (5)화면의 조화, (6)상품의 진열, (7)상품의 조화, (8)글자나 아이콘의 형태, (9)시각적인 분위기, (10)차별화되는 색상, (11)흥미를 유발하는 단어, (12)기술력, (13)전체적인 시각적 디자인 및 분위기, (14)항해구조, (15)상품이나 정보검색 기능 등 15가지 요인을 선정하였다. 본 논문에서는 한국과 중국의 쇼핑몰 웹 사이트가 이들 요인들 간에는 차이가 있는지에 대해 SAS9.2 통계 패키지를 이용하여 검증한 결과 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 본 연구에서는 이들 차이점을 분석하여 효과적인 쇼핑몰 웹 사이트 디자인을 위한 방안을 제시하였다.

A Study on the Design of the Monitoring Architecture for Embedded Kernels based on LTT

  • Embedded systems are used in many fields such as home appliances, terminals, controls, communications, etc. So, to manage, control, and test these embedded systems, monitoring programs have been developed variously. In this paper, to overcome the characteristic faults of embedded systems which have resource restrictions, we implemented a development environment based on NFS and designed a monitoring tool that can evaluate and analyze kernel performance in embedded equipment by using LTT(Linux Trace Toolkit). Also, we designed a method to show monitoring data collected by using a monitoring tool, called MONETA 2.0, through the web-page.

공공도서관 서비스의 유니버설디자인 적용에 관한 연구 (Application of Universal Design in Public Library Services)

  • 최근 도서관을 둘러싼 사회의 다변화는 도서관의 서비스에도 영향을 미치고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 모든 이용자에 대한 보편적 서비스를 제공해야 하는 공공도서관이 변화하는 사회 환경 속에서도 그 본질에 부합하는 서비스를 제공할 수 있도록 관련 제도 및 사례 분석을 통해 유니버설디자인 측면에서의 공공도서관 서비스의 방향성을 제시하였다. 공공도서관 서비스에서의 유니버설디자인 적용을 위하여 공공도서관 서비스의 보편성 추구를 위한 핵심 키워드 "유니버설디자인", 유니버설디자인을 통한 공공도서관 서비스의 경제적 가치 추구, 공공도서관 서비스 인식 개선을 위한 유니버설디자인, 유니버설디자인 적용을 통한 공공도서관 서비스 관련 정책 및 제도 전환의 4가지 방향성을 제언하였다.

  • Artificial Intelligence has been a conceptual area for several decades. It has been studied extensively through experiments by the Information Systems community. When Information Systems supported with Information Technology became all pervasive in business and other allied areas, gradually the advancements in Artificial Intelligence also emerged as innovations across domains. Artificial Intelligence by definition is expected to substitute Human Intelligence, thereby making a huge space for innovation. In fact, all processes effected by human intelligence are liable to be replaced by AI which in itself is a massive innovation space. This paper will study the publication's repository (Scopus and Google Scholar from 1983 till 2021) in the area of Artificial Intelligence and innovation, then analyze the trend to gain insight into the evolution of AI as a vehicle for innovation.

  • A number of intrusion detection systems have been developed to detect intrusive activity on individual hosts and networks. The systems developed rely almost exclusively on a software approach to intrusion detection analysis and response. In addition, the network systems developed apply a centralized approach to the detection of intrusive activity. The problems introduced by this approach are twofold. First the centralization of these functions becomes untenable as the size of the network increases.

  • A Visual development framework for embedded system is presented based on virtual prototyping. Embedded systems often are used in life critical situation, where reliability is very important. Time_to_market, correctness, user_friendly_design are another features required for embedded system design. However, embedded systems are today designed with an ad hoc approach that is heavily based on earlier experience with similar products. We believe that new design paradigm is needed and it should be based on the use of formal model and visual system to describe the behavior of the system at a high level abstraction. Virtual prototyping has all the required features. It has the following advantages; correct design, clear interface definition, idea experimentation, increased communication. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of VIP/Sim(Virtual Prototyping Simulator), a visionary development framework for embedded system design. New feature such as state polymorphism is augmented to the de_facto standard formal language, statechart, for enhanced dynamic modeling. Actual design experience with VIP/Sim is also discussed.

초기 설계를 위한 자료 구조 및 모델링 함수 기반의 선체 구조 CAD 시스템 개발 (Development of an Hull Structural CAD System based on the Data Structure and Modeling Function for the Initial Design Stage)

  • Currently, all design information of a hull structure is being first defined on 2D drawings not 3D CAD model at the initial ship design stage and then transferred to following design stages through the 2D drawings. This is caused by the past design practice, limitation on time, and lack of hull structural CAD systems supporting the initial design stage. As a result, the following design tasks such as the process planning and scheduling are being manually performed using the 2D drawings. For solving this problem, a data structure supporting the initial design stage is proposed and a prototype system is developed based on the data structure. The applicability of the system is demonstrated by applying it to various examples. The results show that the system can be effectively used for generating the 3D CAD model of the hull structure at the initial design stage.
