  • Many quality engineering practitioners continue to have a considerable interest in implementing the concept of response surface methodology to real situations. Recently, dual response surface approach is extensively studied and recognized as a powerful tool for robust design. However, existing methods do not consider the information provided by customers and design engineers. In this regard, this article proposes a flexible optimization model that incorporates that information via desirability function modeling. The optimization scheme and its modeling flexibility are demonstrated through an illustrative example by comparing the proposed model with existing ones.

  • The technology acceptance model(TAM) has been widely studied in IS research in order to gain a better understanding of the adoption and use of information systems. Based on the TAM, we explored acceptance of internet shopping mall. 261 questionaries were collected and analyzed. The results of this study showed that the internet shopping mall characteristics such as information quality, system design quality, and communication are important factors in affecting user's visiting and buying frequency at the internet shopping mall. Therefore, the internet shopping mall providers should make the product's information more informative and design shopping mall sites more effectively and interactively.

  • This paper proposes a simpler solution to the stabilization problem of a special class of nonlinear underactuated mechanical systems which includes widely studied benchmark systems like Inertia Wheel Pendulum, TORA and Acrobot. Complex internal dynamics and lack of exact feedback linearizibility of these systems makes design of control law a challenging task. Stabilization of these systems has been achieved using Energy Shaping and damping injection and Backstepping technique. Former results in hybrid or switching architectures that make stability analysis complicated whereas use of backstepping some times requires closed form explicit solutions of highly nonlinear equations resulting from partial feedback linearization. It also exhibits the phenomenon of explosions of terms resulting in a highly complicated control law. Exploiting recently introduced Dynamic Surface Control technique and using control Lyapunov function method, a novel nonlinear controller design is presented as a solution to these problems. The stability of the closed loop system is analyzed by exploiting its two-time scale nature and applying concepts from Singular Perturbation Theory. The design procedure is shown to be simpler and more intuitive than existing designs. Design has been applied to important benchmark systems belonging to the class demonstrating controller design simplicity. Advantages over conventional Energy Shaping and Backstepping controllers are analyzed theoretically and performance is verified using numerical simulations.

  • Recommendation Systems are information technologies that E-commerce merchants have adopted so that online shoppers can receive suggestions on items that might be interesting or complementing to their purchased items. These systems stipulate valuable assistance to the user's purchasing decisions, and provide quality of push service. Traditionally, Recommendation Systems have been designed using a centralized system, but information service is growing vast with a rapid and strong scalability. The next generation of information technology such as Cloud Computing and Big Data Environment has handled massive data and is able to support enormous processing power. Nevertheless, analytic technologies are lacking the different capabilities when processing big data. Accordingly, we are trying to design a conceptual service model with a proposed new algorithm and user adaptation on dynamic recommendation service for big data environment.

  • This paper addresses the methodologies for manufacturing systems design. While a number of design methods are used in product or part design, methods for manufacturing systems design are rarely known. Two approaches, simulation and axiomatic design theory, are discussed with respective case examples. The usual purpose of using simulation is to identify the bottleneck of a manufacturing system or to evaluate its performance with the aim of configuring the manufacturing system. The simulation typically proceeds in steps such as problem definition, model building, numerical experimentation, analysis and evaluation. The axiomatic design method transforms customer attributes into functional requirements and repeats mapping processes between functional domain and physical one until a satisfactory level of refinement of the functional requirements and the design parameters is reached. Possible design alternatives are evaluated by applying the independence axiom as well as the information axiom.

  • This study addresses the optimal design methodology for switching between active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar operating modes to easily select the necessary information to reduce pilots' cognitive load and physical workload in situations where diverse and complex information is continuously provided. This study presents a procedure for defining a hidden Markov chain model (HMM) for modeling operating mode changes based on time series data on the operating modes of the AESA radar used by pilots while performing mission scenarios with inherent uncertainty. Furthermore, based on a transition probability matrix (TPM) of the HMM, this study presents a mathematical programming model for proposing the optimal structural design of AESA radar operating modes considering the manipulation method of a hands on throttle-and-stick (HOTAS). Fighter pilots select and activate the menu key for an AESA radar operation mode by manipulating the HOTAS's rotary and toggle controllers. Therefore, this study presents an optimization problem to propose the optimal structural design of the menu keys so that the pilot can easily change the menu keys to suit the operational environment.

  • The accelerated convergence of automobiles and ICT has led to an increase in in-vehicle electronic devices designed to enhance the safety and convenience of drivers. Consequently, the information presentation on in-vehicle display systems for drivers and passengers need to be taken into account in order to guarantee driving stability while satisfying the needs of UX-based design users. This study compared and evaluated requirements for information items shown on in-vehicle displays regarding driving safety and convenience by groups according to driving career. A total of 38 information items related to safety and convenience that can be displayed while driving and pulling over were collected. Their level of necessity was tested and evaluated by 234 drivers. Using the results, we conducted a comparative analysis on the requirements for information presentation on in-vehicle display systems by groups according to driving career.

  • Recently, Information System (IS) development projects such as the next generation IS project of the financial business domain have shown tendency to become large and complex. Accordingly, a large number of enterprises have introduced a Project Management Office (PMO) to successfully manage multiple complex large-scaled projects. Many researches and empirical studies have proved the positive results of PMO-based projects. For example, most PMO-based projects have been accomplished successfully without exceeding the planned deadline and budget. However, even in the case of PMO-based projects, participants are still supported by legacy Project Management Systems (PMS) developed without considering the PMO. It implies that recent large projects are hardly performed efficiently because of the large gap between the legacy PMS tools developed only for single small projects and the real process of PMO-based project management. Therefore, we attempt to design and develop a PMO-based PMS in which the role and responsibility of PMO are completely implemented. To demonstrate our systems practicality, we applied the devised system to the real project management cases of "K" bank in The Republic of Korea. According to the results of case analysis, all of the four projects supported by our PMO-based PMS have been completed without exceeding planned deadline and budget, and the quality of their final outcome is appraised to be superior.

  • In this study I construct CAN(Controller Area Network) for automobiles similar to LAN(Local Area Network) and build communication modules in the major part of an automobile to link several sub-systems. Since each station replaces the communication function of sub-systems and has various types of sensor, actuator, controller, and switch, every information about automobile's status is obtained from the network. The manufactured system showed a superior capability. The following is the contents of study. 1. The definition of communication packet through the analysis of CAN protocol. 2. The Design of modules using micro-controller 80C196CA. 3. The Network configuration.

  • Typical multi-tier client/server architecture includes various and complex objects scattered around the network. Those objects must be clearly identified and designed. Then, their interface must be well-defined so that the integration can be done without major difficulties. This paper presents an application framework to increase reuse and to accomplish architectural simplicity in information systems development. Each component of the architecture is identified and designed. The proposed architecture of the application framework provides the fundamental structure for developing individual functions of an information system. Resulting architectural simplicity achieves effective and efficient maintenance throughout the lifecycle of the information systems. Although the framework aims at the reuse within a project, the productivity of information systems development across projects will be greatly improved eventually. Cases are discussed to evaluate the practicality of the architecture presented.
