  • Bridge structures are a socially important infrastructure and safety management of bridges during the public service period is important. Steel box girder bridges, which account for a large percentage of road bridges, have been designed by allowable stress design method(ASD) and load carrying capacity have been evaluated using ASD. Although design specification has recently been changed to limit state design method(LSD), in most cases, ASD is still used for load carrying capacity evaluation. In this study, the two design methods were used to compare the results of a load rating factor evaluation on a number of bridges, and we are going to find out how to convert the existing rating factor by ASD into rating factor by LSD. The results of this study are expected to can be used as a basis for determining the need for reinforcement and evaluating load carrying capacity by LSD in bridge maintenance.

  • This paper employs stochastic processing techniques to analyze explosion risks in plant facilities based on explosion return periods. Release probability is calculated using data from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), along with annual leakage frequency per plant provided by DNV. Ignition probability, derived from various researchers' findings, is then considered to calculate the explosion return period based on the release quantity. The explosion risk is assessed by examining the volume, radius, and blast load of the vapor cloud, taking into account the calculated explosion return period. The reference distance for the design blast load model is determined by comparing and analyzing the vapor cloud radius according to the return period, historical vapor cloud explosion cases, and blast-resistant design guidelines. Utilizing the multi-energy method, the blast load range corresponding to the explosion return period is presented. The proposed return period serves as a standard for the design blast load model, established through a comparative analysis of vapor cloud explosion cases and blast-resistant design guidelines. The outcomes of this study contribute to the development of a performance-based blast-resistant design framework for plant facilities.

  • This paper addresses the method for the shape design sensitivity analysis of the buckling load in the continuous elastic body. The sensitivity formula for critical load is analytically derived and expressed in terms of shape variation, based on the continuum formulation of the stability problem. Though the buckling problem is more efficiently solved by the structural elements such as beam and shell, the elastic solids are considered in this paper because the solid elements can be used in general for any kind of structures whether they are thick or thin. The initial stress and buckling analysis is carried out by the commercial analysis code ANSYS. The sensitivity is computed by using the mathematical package MATLAB using the results of ANSYS. Several problems including straight and curved beams under compressive load, ring under pressure load, thin-walled section and bottle shaped column are chosen to illustrate the efficiency of the presented method.

  • Overhead transmission lines in domestic area have been built by several different design standards of dip and ground clearance. This paper describes an experimental study for evaluating load capacity and dip margin in overhead transmission lines. Such design standards for selection of overhead transmission conductors, dip and ground clearance, as well as electrical equipment technical standard are discussed. Based on daily load and weather data, several characteristics such as line utilization factor, load factor, conductor temperature and dip, etc. are analyzed, and compared with the specified levels of design standards. As a result, it is verified that DLR method can be a clue of the solving of the problem, for occurring in old transmission conductors which may be rarely operating below standards.

  • Design procedure of adaptive controller with variable load condition is present and applied to velocity control of small, permanent magnet DC servo motor. The state feedback control scheme is adopted and Recursive Least Squares algorithm is used for parameter estimation. In order to reduce the time consuming. In the procedure of adaptation-gain tuning of state feedback controller, approximate curve fitting technique is applied to the relations between load condition and poles of the system, load condition and feedback gains. With this method, fast adaptation can be accomplished. It is shown that this procedure can be applied not only to variable load condition but also to variation of other system constants, for example variation of resistance and inductance etc.. Simulation results is present for both cases - variable inertia load, variable motor resistance to verify performance improvements. This design procedure produces an adaptive con troller which is feasible for implementation with microprocessor by reducing calculation time.

  • Structural tests of the PSC Beam bridge using high strength concrete, concrete compressive strength 700kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, are conducted for the application including durability and serviceability of the bridge. Current design safety factors with respect to the jacking force and the service design load DB-24 are applied to the design of the bridge. Concrete compressive strength 700kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, girder depth 2.3m, girder space 3.2m, span length 20m, and slab thickness 27cm are selected for the bridge test. The Bulb-Tee section of the girders is applied instead of I section because it is well known more stable to the longer span(40m). Static load test(4 beams) with composite and non-composite section, and fatigue load test(1 beams) with composite section are conducted. Crack moment, ultimate load, deflections with load steps, and strains of the beam section for those bridges are investigated. The structural test results of the bridges showed a good performance for a safety and a serviceability.

  • Long span bridges such as steel cable stayed and suspension bridges are usually more flexible than short to medium span bridges and expected to have large deformations. Deflections due to live load for long span bridges are important since it controls the overall heights of the bridge for securing the clearance under the bridge and serviceability for securing the comfort of passengers or pedestrians. In case of sea-crossing bridges, the clearance of bridges is determined considering the height of the ship master from the surface of the water, the trim of the ship, the psychological free space, the tide height, and live load deflection. In the design of bridges, live load deflection is limited to a certain value to minimize the vibrations. However, there are not much studies that consider the live load deflection and its effects for long span bridges. The purpose of this study is to investigate the suitability of live load deflection limit and its actual effects on serviceability of bridges for steel cable-stayed and suspension bridges. Analytical study is performed to calculate the natural frequencies and deflections by design live load. Results are compared with various design limits and related studies by Barker et al. (2011) and Saadeghvaziri et al. (2012). Two long span bridges are selected for the case study, Yi Sun-Sin grand bridge (suspension bridge, main span length = 1545 m) and Young-Hung grand bridge (cable stayed bridge, main span length = 240 m). Long-term measured deflection data by GNSS system are collected from Yi Sun-Sin grand bridge and compared with the theoretical values. Probability of exceedance against various deflection limits are calculated from probability distribution of 10-min maximum deflection. The results of the study on the limitation of live load deflection are expected to be useful reference for the design, the proper planning and deflection review of the long span bridges around the world.

  • A method of computer aided design (C.A.D.) is proposed to analize a load circuit of a high frequency induction heating. Various formulas are derived from the properity of the heating load, which is useful for the design of heating materials. A load circuit which is designed by the proposed C.A.D. is realized and tested. The experimental results show in good agreement with the theoritical analysies. Especially the result reveal that the power transfer efficiency increases as the Q and coupling coefficient of the work coil increase.
