  • Recently, as machine components and products are getting smaller, it is demanded to develop superprecision production technologies multilaterally. Along with the advancement of production technology, people are paying keener attention to the development of eco-friendly technology and efficient processing technology. Particularly, in many industries related to automobiles, shipbuilding, or airplane components, it is demanded to obtain technology to process multiple micro-holes. On account of this trend, micro-hole processing employing high-power electron beams is rising nowadays, and more interest is being shown in it, too. In Korea, however, the process of manufacturing vaporized amplification sheets influencing high-power electron beam processing technology and the processability considerably has not been developed sufficiently yet. Therefore, this study has applied vaporized amplification sheets manufactured to analyze the processability of high-power electron beams and examine necessity for vaporized amplification sheets.

  • The shear flow properties have been reported in many cases by manufactures and fabricators. Only this characteristic is sometimes insufficient for the processings to provide a complete picture of the relationship between the processability and the flow behavior when underwent free-surface processes in which the shape and thickness of the extrudate are determined by the rheological properties of the melt, the die dimensions etc. In this paper the methodology of control of elongational flow is discussed in terms of relaxation time control of the polymer melts.

  • The configuration of injection molded part can be classified into primary feature and supplementary feature. Even though supplementary features such as ribs, snap fits and bosses make mold more complicated, which cause the increasement of the mold cost, supplementary features should be attached to primary features because of assembly, reinforcement, moldability and other functional purposes. But it is not easy for novice designers to design them appropriately because of the profound knowledge related to Injection molding. In this paper, the intelligent design tool called ISFD(Intelligent Supplementary Feature Designer) which supplies easy, simple, time and cost-effective design method has been studied and developed. A knowledge-based design system is a new tool which enables the concurrent design and CIM with integrated and balanced design decisions at the initial design stage of injection molding.

  • In this study, the wear characteristics of end mills for CFRP processing were investigated according to the tool materials and coating types. Three kinds of tool materials and two types of coatings were used for comparing the machining performance. The flank wear of the end mill tool and the surface condition of the workpiece were compared. The K6UF material shows the most excellent performance among the three materials used in the experiment. The Tetrabond coating showed better processability in comparison of two kinds of coatings.

  • Timber is an eco-friendly material that is suitable for low carbon and green growth, and recently, studies on utilization and manufacture of timber are increasing. Thus, we need a stable supply of wood working materials for the formative element and widespread function of timber. It is necessary to develop the use of timber because it enhances the added value of this material by making the most of it. In this way, skin-timber is an appropriate material for life articles because skin-timber has a variety of functions including the ability for storage use, the beauty of structure, the ability to maintain heat and insulation, and the capability to control humidity. In this study, I developed household items using skin-timbers that are made up of circular columns and square columns of pine, larch, and yellow popular. The circular and square columns have an inner hole that is approximately 90% of the external structure's width. I intended for the concept of these designs to display creativity considering functionality and productivity. These items are life articles and furniture for modern people. They are eco-friendly products that are varnished with traditional lacquer and natural oil. According to the result of this study, skin-timbers are made of domestic pine, larch, and yellow popular and are resource of furniture, household items, and woodcraft. I believe skin-timber is not only a useful material for processability and design applicability, but it also has the capability to be a multifunctional and high value-added material. Also, if the standards, such as cortex thickness, outside diameter, and length, of skin-timber are producted diversely, I believe skin-timber can be have more the possibility of industrial products' development.

  • Organic photovoltaic cells (OPV) have been extensively studied due to their unique properties such as flexibility, light-weight, easy processability, cost-effectiveness, and being environmental friendly. These advantages make them an attractive candidate for application in various novel fields and promising development with new features. Photovoltaic cell-integrated textiles have greatly attractive features as a power source for the smart textile solutions, and OPV is most ideal form factor due to advantage of flexibility. In this study, we develop a textile-based OPV through various experimental methods and we suggest the direction for the design of the photovoltaic textile. We used a textile electrode and tried to various layouts for textile-based OPV. Finally, we determined the contact area by using Hertzian theory for the calculation of power conversion efficiency (PCE). Based on the results of calculation, the short circuit current density, Isc, was $13.11mA/cm^2$ under AM 1.5condition and the PCE was around 2.5%.

  • There is a need for light weight and high stiffness characteristics in the building structure as well as aircraft and cars. So fiber reinforced plastic with the addition of reinforcing agent such as glass fiber, carbon fiber, aramid fiber is utilized in this regard. In this study, mechanical strength, flow property and part shrinkage of glass fiber and carbon fiber reinforced PA6 were examined according to reinforcement content such as 10%, 20%, and 30%, and reinforcement type. The mechanical property was measured by a tensile test with specimen fabricated by injection molding and the flow property was measured by spiral test. In addition, we measured the part shrinkage of fiber reinforced PA6 that affects part quality. As glass fiber content increases, mechanical property increased by 75.4 to 182%, and flow property decreased by 18.9 to 39.5%. And part shrinkage decreased by 52.9 to 60.8% in the flow direction, and decreased by 48.2 to 58.1% in the perpendicular to the flow direction. As carbon fiber content increases, mechanical property increased by 180 to 276%, flow property decreased by 26.8 to 42.8%, and part shrinkage decreased by 65.0 to 71.8% and 69.5 to 72.7% in the flow direction and the direction perpendicular to the flow respectively.

  • In order to improve the processability of rigid rod-like polyspiroacetals without significant loss of their good nature, in this work a few new ideas for molecular design were adopted: (1) Copolymerization for breaking the regularity of polymer repeating units. (2) Incorporation of flexible methylene linkages or spacers in rigid spiroacetal polymer main chain. (3) Derivatization of long flexible side chains onto rigid polymer backbone. On the basis of these ideas, a series of polyspiroacetals were prepared, using the phase transfer catalyst, BTMAC, by interfacial polymerization reactions of spiroacetal monomer (SAB) and disubstituted aromatic acid chlorides or aliphatic diacid chlorides. Physical properties of these polyspiroacetals are discussed in relation to their chemical structure and are compared with those of polyspiroacetals synthesized by several other researchers.

  • Oil-water separators are commonly used in the oily wastewater treatment for the reuse of water resources. Recently, various approaches have been conducted to design and manipulate the oil-water separator installed with highly functionalized membranes. Membrane technologies should encompass the selectivity, durability, economics and processability of materials, and effective oil water separators be also developed to exhibit the optimal performance of the materials. In this mini-review, we highlight the large scale fabrication of membrane materials and the effective design of oil water separators.
