  • This paper suggests the method to recognize the various defect patterns of cold mill strip using binary decision tree constructed by genetic algorithm automatically. In case of classifying the complex the complex patterns with high similarity like the defect patterns of cold mill strip, the selection of the optimal feature set and the structure of recognizer is important for high recognition rate. In this paper genetic algorithm is used to select a subset of the suitable features at each node in binary decision tree. The feature subset of maximum fitness is chosen and the patterns are classified into two classes by linear decision function. After this process is repeated at each node until all the patterns are classified respectively into individual classes. In this way , binary decision tree classifier is constructed automatically. After construction binary decision tree, the final recognizer is accomplished by the learning process of neural network using a set of standard p tterns at each node. In this paper, binary decision tree classifier is applied to recognition of the defect patterns of cold mill strip and the experimental results are given to show the usefulness of the proposed scheme.

  • This paper suggests a method to recognize the various defect patterns of a cold mill strip using a binary decision tree automatically constructed by a genetic algorithm(GA). In classifying complex patterns with high similarity like the defect patterns of a cold mill stirp, the selection of an optimal feature set and an appropriate recognizer is important to achieve high recognition rate. In this paper a GA is used to select a subset of the suitable features at each node in the binary decision tree. This process is repeated at each node until all the patterns are classified into individual classes. In this way, the classifier using the binary decision tree is constructed automatically. • This study is related to the acquisition of physiological signals of human emotions and the recognition of human emotions using such physiological signals. To acquire physiological signals, seven emotions are evoked through stimuli. Regarding the induced emotions, the results of skin temperature, photoplethysmography, electrodermal activity, and an electrocardiogram are recorded and analyzed as physiological signals. The suitability and effectiveness of the stimuli are evaluated by the subjects themselves. To address the problem of the emotions not being recognized, we introduce a methodology for a recognizer using prototype-based learning and particle swarm optimization (PSO). The design involves two main phases: i) PSO selects the P% of the patterns to be treated as prototypes of the seven emotions; ii) PSO is instrumental in the formation of the core set of features. The experiments show that a suitable selection of prototypes and a substantial reduction of the feature space can be accomplished, and the recognizer formed in this manner is characterized by high recognition accuracy for the seven emotions using physiological signals.

  • In this study, the Polynomial-based Radial Basis Function Neural Networks is proposed as one of the recognition part of overall face recognition system that consists of two parts such as the preprocessing part and recognition part. The design methodology and procedure of the proposed pRBFNNs are presented to obtain the solution to high-dimensional pattern recognition problem. First, in preprocessing part, we use a CCD camera to obtain a picture frame in real-time. By using histogram equalization method, we can partially enhance the distorted image influenced by natural as well as artificial illumination. We use an AdaBoost algorithm proposed by Viola and Jones, which is exploited for the detection of facial image area between face and non-facial image area. As the feature extraction algorithm, PCA method is used. In this study, the PCA method, which is a feature extraction algorithm, is used to carry out the dimension reduction of facial image area formed by high-dimensional information. Secondly, we use pRBFNNs to identify the ID by recognizing unique pattern of each person. The proposed pRBFNNs architecture consists of three functional modules such as the condition part, the conclusion part, and the inference part as fuzzy rules formed in 'If-then' format. In the condition part of fuzzy rules, input space is partitioned with Fuzzy C-Means clustering. In the conclusion part of rules, the connection weight of pRBFNNs is represented as three kinds of polynomials such as constant, linear, and quadratic. Coefficients of connection weight identified with back-propagation using gradient descent method. The output of pRBFNNs model is obtained by fuzzy inference method in the inference part of fuzzy rules. The essential design parameters (including learning rate, momentum coefficient and fuzzification coefficient) of the networks are optimized by means of the Particle Swarm Optimization. The proposed pRBFNNs are applied to real-time face recognition system and then demonstrated from the viewpoint of output performance and recognition rate.

  • Enalish character recognition with the neural networl algorithm has been performed. Character recognition technition techniques which are processed by software, have the limit of the recognition speed. To overcome this limit, we realize this system to hardware by using the neural network algorithm. We have designed preprocessing chip using the neural nework model, that is single layer perceptorn, in the noise elimination, smoothing, thinning and feature point extraction. These chips are implemented as a CMOS double metal 2um design rule.

  • For educational and research purposes, a Korean speech recognition platform is designed. It is based on an object-oriented architecture and can be easily modified so that researchers can readily evaluate the performance of a recognition algorithm of interest. This platform will save development time for many who are interested in speech recognition. The platform includes the following modules: Noise reduction, end-point detection, met-frequency cepstral coefficient (MFCC) and perceptually linear prediction (PLP)-based feature extraction, hidden Markov model (HMM)-based acoustic modeling, n-gram language modeling, n-best search, and Korean language processing. The decoder of the platform can handle both lexical search trees for large vocabulary speech recognition and finite-state networks for small-to-medium vocabulary speech recognition. It performs word-dependent n-best search algorithm with a bigram language model in the first forward search stage and then extracts a word lattice and restores each lattice path with a trigram language model in the second stage.

  • Iris recognition is a biometric technology which can identify a person using the iris pattern. It is important for the iris recognition system to extract the feature which is invariant to changes in iris patterns. Those changes can be occurred by the influence of lights, changes in the size of the pupil, and head tilting. In this paper, we propose a novel method based on Zernike Moment which is robust to rotations of iris patterns. we utilized a selection of Zernike moments for the fast and effective recognition by selecting global optimum moments and local optimum moments for optimal matching of each iris class. The proposed method enables high-speed feature extraction and feature comparison because it requires no additional processing to obtain the rotation invariance, and shows comparable performance to the well-known previous methods.

  • An davanced method for the automatic generation of parametric models in computer- aided design systems is required for most of two-dimensional model which is represented as a set of geometric elements, and constraining scheme formulas. The development system uses geometric constraints and support of topology parameters from feature recognition and grouping the design entities into optimal ones from pre-designed drawings. The aim of this paper is to present guidelines for the application and development of parametric design modules for the standard parts in mechanical system, the basic constitutional part of mold base, and other 2D features.

  • In this paper, we propose a VQ codebook design of speech recognition feature parameters in order to improve the performance of a distributed speech recognition system. For the context-dependent HMMs, a VQ codebook should be correlated with phonetic distributions in the training data for HMMs. Thus, we focus on a selection method of training data based on phonetic distribution instead of using all the training data for an efficient VQ codebook design. From the speech recognition experiments using the Aurora 4 database, the distributed speech recognition system employing a VQ codebook designed by the proposed method reduced the word error rate (WER) by 10% when compared with that using a VQ codebook trained with the whole training data.
