  • Scan design is a structured design-for-testability technique in which flip-flops are re-designed so that the flip-flops are chained in shift registers. The scan design cannot be used in a design with scan design rule violations without modifying the design. The most important scan design rule is concerning clock and reset signals to pins of the flip-flops or scan cells. Clock and Reset pins of every scan cell must be controllable from top-level ports. We propose a new technique to re-design gated clocks and resets which violate the scan design rule concerning the clock and reset pins. This technique substitutes synchronous sequential circuits for gated clock and reset designs, which removes the clock and reset rule violations and improves fault coverage of the design. The fault coverage is improved from $90.48\%$ to $100.00\%$, from $92.31\%$ to $100.00\%$, from $95.45\%$ to $100.00\%$, from $97.50\%$ to $100.00\%$ in a design with gated clocks and resets.

  • In this paper, we address the requirement of VHDL parser for design rule checker, and the structure and implementing method of design rule checker which checks if IP design is valuable to reuse. This checker builds the grammar trees from the design rules, and the internal graphs representation from IP design data. It maps the nodes of the grammar trees and the internal graphs to check if it violates the design rules. The design rule checker can do the cross reference between source codes and error messages to find error position easy.

  • Purpose: When designing plants and workplaces such as handling and using chemicals, a system that can automatically determine whether the design has been made in compliance with domestic safety management laws is established to shorten the review time and increase accuracy. Method: Safety design standards for chemical handling and use workplaces were investigated, and types and systems were derived that could automatically judge design errors by dividing the articles into semantic units. Result: An automatic design review method performed when designing a building was proposed, and a system that can review the safety design requirements required when designing a chemical handling business site through the development of a rule checker was proposed. After confirming whether the law is subject to application, the safety design rules are classified into semantic units through preprocessing. The classified results can be classified into four types, and the specifications, space, conditions, situations, and specific devices and facilities to reinforce safety were analyzed as representative types. It proposes a system that prepares a diagram for the safety design rule and allows it to be reviewed through the rule checker program.

  • Designing Trim die block is a complicated and time-consuming process heavily resting on the experience of the designer. To reduce design time and human errors, a knowledge base is used to automated the design process. In this paper, a framework of the Rule-based CAD System is presented for trim die block design consisting of a rule-base, design process control module and geometric modeler (CATIA). The rule-base includes design rules and know-how of design specialist. CATIA is used as the overall CAD environment and rule-base and design control modules are developed by C++ language with an interface to CATIA. Using the rule-base, the designer can explore alternating designs fast by changing design parameters and the part-list is automatically created which avoids miscommunication.

  • We analyzed the mechanism of EM emission in telecommunication system and extracted the dominant parameter in EMC design. The I/O cable, ventilation hole and shield design of chassis are important EMC design Issues in telecommunication systems. Because telecommunication systems have much more I/O cables than other electronic products, EMC design of I/O cable is very important in telecommunication systems. Therefore by the method of experimentation and simulation, EM coupling mechanism of I/O cable was analyzed and the design rule for low emission was extracted. On the base of these EMC design rules, EMC design of telecommunication system was executed without complex redesign or debug. The result obtained by these methods was shown in this paper.

  • We describe a constrained optimal classification rule for the case when the prior probability of an observation belonging to one of the two populations is unknown. This is done by suggesting a balanced design for the classification experiment and constructing the optimal rule under the balanced design condition. The rule si characterized by a constrained minimization of total risk of misclassification; the constraint of the rule is constructed by the process of equation between Kullback-Leibler's directed divergence measures obtained from the two population conditional densities. The efficacy of the suggested rule is examined through two-group normal classification. This indicates that, in case little is known about the relative population sizes, dramatic gains in accuracy of classification result can be achieved.

  • Expert systems using uncertain and ambiguous knowledge are not of the recent interests about uncertainty problem for performing inference similar to the decision making of a human expert. Human factors on rule-based systems often involve uncertain information. Expert systems had been used the methods of conflict resolution in a rule conflict situation, but this methods not properly solved the rule conflict. If a human expert appends a new rule to an original rule base, the rule base rightly causes a rule conflict. In this paper, the problem of rule conflict is regarded as one in which uncertainty of information is fundamentally involved. In the reduction of problem with uncertainty, we propose an enhanced rule ordering method, which improve the rule ordering method using Dempster-Shafer theory. We also propose a combinative index, which involve human factors of experts decision making.

  • This paper describes the design scheme of the three-dimensional structures based on the concept of the cellular automata simulation. The cellular automata simulation is performed according to the local rule. In this paper, the local rule is derived in the mathematical formulation from the optimization problem. The cell density is taken as the design variable. Two objective functions are defined for reducing the total weight of the structure and obtaining the fully stressed structure. The constraint condition is defined for defining the local rule. The penalty function is defined from the objective functions and the constraint condition. Minimization of the penalty function with respect to the design parameter leads to the local rule. The derived rule is applied to the design of the three-dimensional structure first. The final structure can be obtained successfully. However, the computational cost is expensive. So, in order to reduce the computational cost, the material parameters $c_1$ and $c_2$ and the value of the cell rejection criterion (CRC) are changed. The results show that the computational cost depends on the parameters and the CRC value.

  • The capacity design rule for beam-column joints, as adopted by the EC8, forces the formation of the plastic hinges to be developed in beams rather than in columns. This is achieved by deriving the design moments of the columns of a joint from equilibrium conditions, assuming that plastic hinges with their possible overstrengths have been developed in the adjacent beams of the joint. In this equilibrium the parameters (dimensions, material properties, axial forces etc) are, in general, random variables. Hence, the capacity design is associated with a probability of non-compliance (probability of failure). In the present study the probability of non-compliance of the capacity design rule of joints is being calculated by assuming the basic variables as random variables. Parameters affecting this probability are examined and a modification of the capacity design rule for beam-column joints is proposed, in order to achieve uniformity of the safety level.
