  • Currently, there is no library only for children in Korea, but as people realized that reading education was important, public libraries have started making space for children. However, most of spaces in public library were designed regardless of physical development and behavior. Therefore it was even worse for children to use library. Planning must be concerned about indoor surroundings that satisfy children's psychological desire and characteristic. Consequently, this study is going to have a thorough grasp of the problems of children library, and present organized information which fits their reading environment and human technology.

아동 영재교육시설 교육공간의 실내디자인 특성에 관한 사례조사 및 비교 (A Case Study on the Spatial Characteristics of Classroom in Educational Institution for the Gifted Children)

  • In Korea, special education for the gifted is being activated in school systems, and many researches regarding this special education are being conducted. However, despite its rich research on the programs of this special education, there are almost no research on the institutions layout and spatial design that can utilize them. Considering the heat for education of the present and the researches on education for the gifted so far, this tendency is likely to continue. To study space composition and interior architectural design of children's institution for the gifted, we studied the cases of 5 institutions located in Seoul and the following are the results. The research results are as followed. Most institutions for the gifted used most common and technical paint, wallpaper, and PVC for finishing materials. The colors should be carefully selected, too, so that it will increase inquisitiveness and interest of the children, which will develop into creative ability. In the cases studied, color of most walls and furnitures were not very distinctive: they were in light pastel and bright tone. And there were set of desks in many shapes so it can be put in different ways for different purposes. However, there were also desks that are commonly used at schools, which were limited in arranging in various ways. Most cases studied were located in general building and therefore, natural light source was limited. On the part of appliances, supplements should be made so that classes can be carried out using multimedia materials.

유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 감사성향, 양육태도가 가족탄력성에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Young Children Mother's Gratitude, Child-rearing Attitude on Family Resilience)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of family resilience, gratitude, and child-rearing attitude and to identify predicting factors of family resilience among mothers of young children. A correlative research design was be used for this study with self-administered questionnaires. The subjects were 248 mothers of young children from kindergarten located in Jeonnam and Gwangju provinces in Korea. Data were collected between May to June, 2013. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regressions with PASW Statistics 18 (SPSS 18.0) program were used for data analysis. The major findings are summarized as follows: (1) Family resilience was closely related to gratitude and four types of child-rearing attitudes. Gratitude was closely related to four types of child-rearing attitudes. And rejective attitude had significantly negative relations family resilience and gratitude. (2) The significant factors affecting family resilience were mother's education level, gratitude, affective attitude, rejective attitude, autonomous attitude and controlling attitude which explained 63% of the variance. The results indicate that gratitude and child-rearing attitude were significant factors associated with family resilience among mothers of young children. In order to increase the family resilience among mothers of young children, family programs that deal with both gratitude and child-rearing attitude should be designed.

A Study on the Relations between Wooden Toy and Development of Infant and Young Children

  • The aim of the present study was to investigate the relations between wooden toy and development of infant and young children by taking only the commercialized wooden furniture which would be suitable for the developmental area for infant and young children, among the physical environment influencing the balanced development and development for them. The recommended standard for them was the commercialized good and the only advanced toys for the development of infant and young children was primary selected, in case of different furniture for same purpose with regardless of manufacturer, country of origin and price. The selected wooden toys for development of infant and young children covered the following test conditions. They keep the soft and clean surfaces and the corners are the round-finished so safe. The dyeing and coloring are so clear like the rainbow-colored in compliance with the international safety norm, and the paint material used are harmless to the people, because they have already passed the European Safety Norm EN 71 which is the most authoritative and strict standard in the world and contained accordingly little heavy metals, toxic substances and also allergy pigment under the maximum permissible standard. The size of wooden toys are not small enough for infant and young children to be able to swallow and this is important check point, because infants tend to feel the object in their own touching and therefore to have everything to the lip. The paint used was the toys-oriented goods and proved by the test regarding saliva and sweat.

로봇은 살아 있을까? : 우리 반 교사보조로봇에 대한 유아의 인식 (Is Robot Alive? : Young Children's Perception of a Teacher Assistant Robot in a Classroom)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate young children's perceptions of a teacher assistant robot, IrobiQ. in a kindergarten classroom. The subjects of this study were 23 6-year-olds attending to G kindergarten located in E city, Korea, where the teacher assistant robot had been in operation since Oct. 2008. Each child responded to questions assessing the child's perceptions of IrobiQ's identity regarding four domains : it's biological, intellectual, emotional and social identity. Some questions asked the child to affirm or deny some characteristics pertaining to the robot and the other questions asked the reasons for the answer given. The results indicated that while majority of children considered an IrobiQ not as a biological entity, but as a machine, they thought it could have an emotion and be their playmate. The implications of these results are two folds : firstly, they force us to reconsider the traditional ontological categories regarding intelligent service robots to understand human-robot interaction and secondly, they open up an ecological perspective on the design of teacher assistant robots for use with young children in early childhood education settings.

균형적 언어교육 프로그램 모형 개발 -드림스타트 저소득 가정 유아를 대상으로- (Development of the Balanced Language Education Program Model -on the basis of young children in low-income families participating in Dream Start-)

  • 본 연구는 드림스타트에 참여하는 저소득 가정의 유아들을 위해 균형적 언어교육 프로그램 모형을 개발하고 적용하는 데 목적이 있다. 프로그램 개발은 균형적 언어교육의 기본 관점 및 교수학습방법의 특징을 기초로 하였으며 교수체제 개발의 일반적인 모형인 ADDIE에 근거하여 분석-설계-개발-실행-평가의 절차에 따라 진행되었다. 개발된 프로그램은 균형적 언어교육 접근법의 관점에서 총체적 그림책 읽기와 구조화된 읽기, 쓰기 프로그램을 포함하는 프로그램의 내용, 교수학습 원리, 교수학습 전략 등의 교수학습방법, 교수학습평가체제가 제시되었다. 프로그램의 적용은 2015년 6월부터 11월 초반까지 드림스타트에 참여하는 유아 20명을 대상으로 이루어졌으며 유아 읽기 발달 검사, 교사 저널, 부모 만족도 조사를 통해 적용된 프로그램을 평가하였다. 적용결과, 유아들의 읽기 발달에 있어서 향상되는 경향성을 보였으며 교사저널의 질적 분석 결과 책 선호도, 글자에 대한 관심, 개별화된 언어교수법의 효과성 등 문해 발달의 기초적 능력의 향상에서 프로그램의 우수성을 찾을 수 있었다. 본 연구는 균형적 언어교육 접근법의 관점에서 저소득 가정 유아의 문해 발달을 지원하는 구체적인 프로그램의 실행방법을 제시했다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

3D 프린터 활용 유아디자인교육 프로그램이 유아의 창의성 및 유용성 증진에 미치는 효과 (Effects of design education program for young Children using 3D printer on creativity improvement)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 3D프린터를 활용한 유아디자인교육 프로그램을 유치원 현장에 적용하여 유아의 창의성과 유용성에 미치는 효과를 검증하고, 그 결과를 통해 3D프린터라는 매체의 유아교실 내 활용도를 높일 수 있는 현실적인 방안을 마련하는데 있다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 A광역시에 소재한 G유치원 만5세 유아 38명을 각 각 실험집단과 비교집단으로 나누어 2017년 8월부터 2018년 1월까지 약 6개월간 총15회에 걸친 실험처치를 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 연구도구로서는 Torrance의 창의성검사 한국어판중 유아용 도형검사와 유용성검사척도가 사용되었으며 자료의 처리 및 분석은 기술통계방법과 공분산분석을 통해 이루어졌다. 연구의 결과, 3D프린터를 활용한 프로그램은 유아의 창의성과 유용성 증진에 통계적으로 유의미한 효과가 있었으며, 특히 창의성 구성과 정교성에 두드러진 효과를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 창의적 인재 양성을 주요 목표로 삼고 있는 기존의 누리과정과 3D프린터를 더욱 폭넓게 연계 할 수 있는 가능성 및 유아교육 현장에서 활용될 수 있음을 시사한다.

융합인재를 위한 유아 코딩 교육 프로그램 사례 연구 (A Case Study on Early Childhood Coding Education Program for Convergence of Human Resources)

  • 본 연구는 4차 산업혁명 시대의 융합교육을 수업에 적용하고 이를 통해 창의적 문제 해결 능력을 이루어 낼 수 있는 프로그램의 차후 발전 방향을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구 방법으로는 해외 코딩 교육의 사례를 조사하고, 유아와 학부모를 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 사례 조사와 심층 인터뷰 결과 첫째, 유아들이 집에서도 선행 및 복습을 할 수 있도록 하는 것 둘째, 유아 스스로 참여하도록 흥미로운 놀이의 프로그램을 제공하는 것 셋째, 코딩에 대해 접근이 부족했던 부모들을 위한 별도의 프로그램을 제공하여 부모들과 유아가 함께 학습하도록 하는 것이 중요하다. 향후 연구에서는 단점들을 보안하여 국내 특성에 맞게 기존의 코딩 교육과 흥미로운 교육을 접목시켜 진행될 수 있도록 구체적인 제안으로 긍정적인 효과가 있을 것으로 기대한다.

유아 대상 환경교육을 위한 증강현실 기반 통합교수학습방법 적용 가능성 탐색 (Exploring the Possibility of Applying the Integrated Teaching and Learning Method based on AR for Environmental Education for Young Children)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of integrated teaching and learning method using augmented reality for effective promotion of child - friendly attitude and environmental preservation attitude and explored its applicability. For this purpose, based on the augmented reality fairy tale, we designed an experience - oriented integrated teaching and learning method such as reading book, story - telling, drawing, environmental conservation practice activity. The experimental group was divided into two groups: augmented reality reading fairy tales (A) and children's book reading fairy tales (B). First, interest, immersion, and empathy were higher in the application environment of integrated learning teaching method based on Augmented Reality. Second, there was no difference between the two groups in content understanding. Third, in terms of expressiveness, it was verified that various expressions were expressed in the applying environment of the integrated teaching - learning method based on augmented reality through drawing activities. Fourth, in practice activities, more students were practicing in the augmented reality - based integrated teaching - learning method applied environment, and the number of practice activities of individual students was also confirmed. This study suggests that the application of the integrated teaching and learning method can enhance the effect of education when using the smart teaching media using the augmented reality in early childhood education.

How do mothers with young children perceive endocrine-disrupting chemicals?: an exploratory qualitative study

  • Purpose: Despite the health impacts of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) beginning in the early stages of life, there is little research on the perception of EDCs among Korean mothers, who are primarily responsible for protecting children. This study aimed to explore how mothers with young children perceived EDCs for their concerns, the issues they faced, and the way they dealt with them. Methods: An exploratory qualitative design was utilized. Twelve mothers who were recruited from snowball sampling participated in voluntary interviews. Individual in-depth interviews lasting approximately 47 to 60 minutes were recorded and transcribed verbatim. The data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis as suggested by Graneheim and Lundman. Results: Four categories, 10 subcategories, and 25 condensed meaning units were identified by interpreting mothers' underlying meanings. The four categories were 'Knowledgeable yet contrasting ideas regarding EDCs,' 'Negative health impact, but more so for children,' 'Inaction or trying to minimize exposure,' and 'Need for early, reliable resources and social change.' Mothers were knowledgeable about EDCs and actively needed further education and support. While they tended to focus more on the health impact of EDCs on their children and were optimistic about their health risks, paying less attention to their preventive behaviors. Conclusion: Healthcare professionals must consider mothers' perceptions of EDCs in future education and interventions regarding EDCs impact on women's life stages such as puberty, pregnancy, and childrearing. Also preventive strategies that can be applied to their daily lives are needed.
