  • The purpose of this study is grasp the problem of the gymnast, Kim, Dong-Hwa's Kip to Swallow Motion in Rings, and make up for the weak points to help him to perform a better performance. Therefore, two tryouts for $28^{th}$ Athens Olympic Games were filmed using video camera then finalized with Kinematical Analysis using 3D motion analysis program followings are the form of conclusions. 1. In the very first tryout, when he was doing a Swallow Support Scale, his CM position was high and arm slope was deduction because when he was doing Kip, the ascent velocity was low and he tried excessively to pull him on rings due to relying upon angular movement of shoulder joint. 2. When he was doing drop, he let his hip angle bend only little bit and let fall so making shoulder angle wider and maintain the level horizontally occurs strong drop motion when vertical descent is happening. 3. As a result, lowering the direction of a kick makes CM's movement path lower, increase vertical ascent velocity, and it helps to do the Swallow Support motion in short period of time. 4. After a strong drop motion, which is deep and fast, would make rope of ring shake so there is a defect that the body moves to forward area. However, it does not effect in Swallow Support Scale motion. 5. In the second tryout, trunk rotation angle and arm slope was fixed decrease while doing rotary motion. When rotary motion was happening, before the body was going under the rings, maintained his arm slope horizontally so his Swallow Support Scale motion was nearly perfect.

  • For new use development of carbonized board, we investigated the effect of carbonization temperature on the surface temperature of carbonized board manufactured from a plywood, particle board, MDF, and wood of Fraxinus rhynchophylla at different carbonization temperature ($400^{\circ}C{\sim}1100^{\circ}C$). The surface temperature of carbonized board precipitously increased until 12 minutes elapsed, after smoothly increased and thereafter which were stable after 20 minutes. The higher carbonization temperature increased density of carbonized board and surface temperature of carbonized board so that density is considered to influence surface temperature change. Moreover, carbonized boards kept heat for a long time because the descent velocity of carbonized boards' surface temperature was slower than that of heater's.

  • Background: There is no normative craniofacial anthropometric data for the Kenyan-African population. The purpose of this investigation was to determine normative anthropometric craniofacial measurements and proportional relationships for Kenyans of African descent and to compare the data with African Americans (AA), North American Whites (NAW), and neoclassical canons. Methods: Twenty-five direct facial anthropometric measurements, and 4 angular measurements, were taken on 72 Kenyan-African participants (age range 18-30 years) recruited at the University of Nairobi in Kenya. The data were compared with AA and NAW populations, and neoclassical canons. Descriptive statistics of the variables were computed for the study population. Results: Significant differences between both Kenyan males and females were detected in forehead height (~ 5 mm greater for males, ~ 4.5 mm for females), nasal height (reduced by ~ 4 mm in males, ~ 3 mm in females), nasal width (8-9 mm greater), upper lip height (> 3 mm), and eye width (greater by ~ 3 mm) compared to NAW subjects. All vertical measurements obtained were significantly different compared with NAW. Differences were observed in comparison with AA subjects, but less marked. Mouth width was similar in all groups. Angular measurements were variable. Neoclassical canons did not apply to the Kenyan population. Conclusions: Anthropometric measurements of NAW showed clear differences when compared with the Kenyan population, and variations exist with comparative AA data. The anthropometric data in terms of linear measurements, angular measurements, and proportional values described may serve as a database for facial analysis in the KenyanAfrican population.

  • This paper presents an on-line learning algorithm for sequential construction of generalized radial basis function networks (GRBFNs) to model nonlinear systems from empirical data. The GRBFN, an extended from of standard radial basis function (RBF) networks with constant weights, is an architecture capable of representing nonlinear systems by smoothly integrating local linear models. The proposed learning algorithm has a two-stage learning scheme that performs both structure learning and parameter learning. The structure learning stage constructs the GRBFN model using two construction criteria, based on both training error criterion and Mahalanobis distance criterion, to assign new hidden units and the linear local models for given empirical training data. In the parameter learning stage the network parameters are updated using the gradient descent rule. To evaluate the modeling performance of the proposed algorithm, simulations and their results applied to two well-known benchmarks are discussed.

  • In this paper, we propose an evaluation scheme of the coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) of constituents in composite materials using an inverse analysis. The size of constituents typically is about a few micrometers, which makes the identification of material properties difficult as well as the measurement results inaccurate. The proposed inverse analysis scheme, which is combined with the Mori-Tanaka method for predicting an equivalent CTE of composite materials, provides the CTE of the constituents in a straightforward manner by minimizing the cost function defined in lamina scale with the steepest descent method. To demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed scheme, the CTEs of several fibers (glass fiber, P75, P100, and M55J) embedded in matrix are evaluated and compared with experimental results. Furthermore, we discuss the effects of uncertainty of laminar and matrix properties on the prediction of fiber properties.

  • In H.264 standard, an intra frame is the first frame of a GOP (Group of Pictures) and all macroblocks of an intra frame are encoded using the same quantization parameter. In addition, an intra frame is used for encoding the following frames of the same GOP so the encoding results of an intra frame affect the encoding results of the entire GOP. Thus, it is important to find the optimal quantization parameter of an intra frame for improving the quality of a GOP. In this paper, we propose an searching method for an optimal quantization parameter of an intra frame in real time. The proposed method uses a gradient descent method to find the optimal value based on characteristics of the optimal quantization parameters. Experimental results show that the proposed method captures the characteristics of the optimal quantization parameter and accurately estimates the optimal value.

  • In the present study, artificial neural network based on the multi-layer perceptron is used and an optimum model is chosen through the process of efficiency evaluation in order to develop a system predicting maximum displacements of the earth retaining walls at various excavation stages. By analyzing the measured field data collected at various urban excavation sites in Korea, factors influencing on the behaviors of the excavation wall are examined. Among the measured data collected, reliable data are further selected on the basis of the performance ratio and are used as a data base. Data-based measurements are also utilized for both teaming and verifying the artificial neural network model. The learning is carried out by using the back-propagation algorithm based on the steepest descent method. Finally, to verify a validity of the formulated artificial neural network system, both the magnitude and the occurring position of the maximum horizontal displacement are predicted and compared with measured data at real excavation sites not included in the teaming process.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the structure of healing coded through transcriptional activity in the poem of Cho Ji-Hoon in the aspect of literary therapy. In particular, the search for how the codes of emotion are activated through neurophysiologic synapse. The variation of emotional codes developed in Cho Ji-Hoon's poem is in line with the encoding of literary therapy. Emotions emanating from poetic statements stimulate the transition of new emotions and activate emotions of healing. Cho Ji-Hoon's poem fuses emotions through the floods of various poetic transitions. It is then forming an overall healing forest. The healing content is discussed by the structure of transition, and all the structures are linked to the contents of healing. It is a greater part of sad lyricism by the action of descent and ascension, and green aesthetics of the leaves. In the future, if Cho Ji-Hoon's research on poetry is activated, we will be able to meet genuine stories about his natural and literary healing life.
