  • The healthcare environment is becoming increasingly dependent on health information technology (HIT), with healthcare providers, patients, and other people engaged in the field producing and sharing information to improve healthcare delivery. This focus has raised the issue of Health Information Infrastructure (HII) to the forefront of policy, design, and law. While several studies have examined each element of HII, little attention has been paid to the overall infrastructure as a collection of technologies, institutions, standards, and practices. In order to fill the gap, this study focuses on medication reconciliation as an example of the wider phenomenon of HII. In particular, the study examines a medication reconciliation process (MRP) as an example to understand the key challenges facing the development of HII, how the challenges are interrelated, and how they can be met as a whole. Following a mixed methodology, involving workflow study, focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews, the study examines "data friction" along technical, institutional, regulatory, and legal dimensions. This study constitutes one of the first efforts to comprehensively investigate health information infrastructure and how technology and other dimensions in infrastructure are interrelated. The study therefore contributes to a better understanding of HII and the practical challenges that hinder the seamless flow of information in the healthcare environment.

  • The depth of field is the range that the objects inside of this range treated to be focused. Objects that are placed out of this range are out of focus and become blurred. In computer graphics, generating depth of field effects gives a great reality to rendered images. The previous researches on the depth of field in computer graphics can be divided into two major categories. One of them is the distributed ray tracing that samples the lens area against each pixel. It is possible to obtain precise results without noise if enough number of samples are taken. However, to make a good result, a great number of samples are needed, resulting in an enormous timing requirement. The other approach is the method that approximates depth of field effect by post-processing an image and its depth values computed using a pin-hole camera. Though the second technique is not that physically correct like distributed ray tracing, many approaches which using this idea have been introduced because it is much faster than the first approach. But the post-processing have some limitations because of the lack of ray information. In this paper, we first present an improvement technique that corrects the previous post-processing methods and then propose another one that accelerates the distributed ray tracing by using a radiance caching method.

  • This work was carried out to obtain sound welds and to select a most suitable binary metal joint among three different dissimilar binary metal combinations such as Zr-4/Ta, Mo/Ta and Ti/Ta(seal tube/sensor sheath) joints fur the instrumented nuclear fuel irradiation test. To do this, Taguchi experimental method was employed to optimize the experimental data. In addition, metallography, micro-focus x-ray radiography and hardness test were conducted to examine the welds. From the weld bead appearance, penetration depth and bead width as well as weld defects standpoint, Zr-4/Ta joint is suggested for the circumferential joining between a seal tube and a sensor sheath. The optimized welding parameters based on Zr-4/Ta joint are suggested as well.

  • Recently, multi-view depth estimation methods using deep learning network for the 3D scene reconstruction have gained lots of attention. Multi-view video contents have various characteristics according to their camera composition, environment, and setting. It is important to understand these characteristics and apply the proper depth estimation methods for high-quality 3D reconstruction tasks. The camera setting represents the physical distance which is called baseline, between each camera viewpoint. Our proposed methods focus on deciding the appropriate depth estimation methodologies according to the characteristics of multi-view video contents. Some limitations were found from the empirical results when the existing multi-view depth estimation methods were applied to a divergent or large baseline dataset. Therefore, we verified the necessity of obtaining the proper number of source views and the application of the source view selection algorithm suitable for each dataset's capturing environment. In conclusion, when implementing a deep learning-based depth estimation network for 3D scene reconstruction, the results of this study can be used as a guideline for finding adaptive depth estimation methods.

  • A pupil filter is a useful technique for modifying the light intensity distribution near the focus of an optical system to realize depth of field (DOF) extension and superresolution. In this paper, we proposed a new design of the phase only pupil filter by using Zernike polynomials. The effect of design parameters of the new filters on DOF extension and superresolution are discussed, such as defocus Strehl ratio (S.R.), superresolution factor (G) and relative first side lobe intensity (M). In comparison with the other two types of pupil filters, the proposed filter presents its advantages on controlling both the axial and radial light intensity distribution. Finally, defocused imaging simulations are carried out to further demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed pupil filter on DOF extension and superresolution in an optical imaging system.

  • The influence of spacers on the behaviour and ultimate capacity of intermediate length CFS open section columns under axial compression is investigated in this paper. The focus of the research lies in the cross- section predominantly, failed by distortional buckling. This paper made an attempt to either delay or eliminate the distortional buckling mode by the introduction of transverse elements referred herein as spacers. The cross-sections investigated have been selected by performing the elastic buckling analysis using CUFSM software. The test program considered three different columns having slenderness ratios of 35, 50 & 60. The test program consisted of 14 pure axial compression tests under hinged-hinged end condition. Models have been analysed using finite element simulations and the obtained results are compared with the experimental tests. The finite element package ABAQUS has been used to carry out non-linear analyses of the columns. The finite element model incorporates material, geometric non-linearities and initial geometric imperfection of the specimens. The work involves a wide parametric study in the column with spacers of varying depth and number of spacers. The results obtained from the study shows that the depth and number of spacers have significant influence on the behaviour and strength of the columns. Based on the nonlinear regression analysis the design equation is proposed for the selected section.

  • There are few studies on the characteristics of debtors in individual rehabilitation procedures, though research in this field is needed. The scarcity of research means that public policy and perception are being made with inadequate information and, to a certain extent, based on personal prejudices and misconceptions. The purpose of this study was to find out demographic, economic and psychological characteristics of debtors in individual rehabilitation procedures. For this study, an in-depth interview was used. The major findings were as follows : The focus of this study is debtors in individual rehabilitation procedures. They were all under 40 and received relatively high educations. Interestingly, they showed a high tendency to use debt and an inability to manage their money. They had short time horizons and imperfect self-control in consumption and borrowing decisions. Monthly income, expenditures, asset and debt of the debtors, and monthly payment to creditors were reported. There were a lot of reasons for their bankruptcy : business failure, job loss, the cost of raising children, and expenditures for entertainment causing them to file for individual rehabilitation procedures. One of the major conclusions of this study was the discovery that their psychological characteristics were nearly the same. The implications of the study suggest that financial education and counseling must consider psychological characteristics.

  • We investigate the diffusion process of Thomson-scattered line photons in both real space and frequency space through a Monte Carlo approach. The emission source is assumed to be monochromatic and point-like embedded at the center of a free electron region in the form of a sphere and a slab. In the case of a spherical region, the line profiles emergent at a location of Thomson optical depth τTh from the source exhibit the full width of the half maximum σλ ≃ τ1.5Th. In the slab case, we focus on the polarization behavior where the polarization direction flips from the normal direction of the slab to the parallel as the slab optical depth τTh increases from τTh ≪ 1 to τTh ≫ 1. We propose that the polarization flip to the parallel direction to the slab surface in optically thick slabs is attributed to the robustness of the Stokes parameter Q along the vertical axis with respect to the observer's line of sight whereas randomization dominates the remaining region as τTh increases. A brief discussion on the importance of our study is presented.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the workplace bullying experience of Korean nurses. Methods: Participants were twenty current or former hospital nurses who had experienced workplace bullying. Data were collected through focus group and individual in-depth interviews from February to May, 2015. Theoretical sampling method was applied to the point of theoretical saturation. Transcribed interview contents were analyzed using Corbin and Strauss's grounded theory method. Results: A total of 110 concepts, 48 sub-categories, and 17 categories were identified through the open coding process. As a result of axial coding based on the paradigm model, the central phenomenon of nurses' workplace bullying experience was revealed as 'teaching that has become bullying', and the core category was extracted as 'surviving in love-hate teaching' consisting of a four-step process: confronting reality, trial and error, relationship formation, and settlement. The relationship formation was considered to be the key phase to proceed to the positive settlement phase, and the participants utilized various strategies such as having an open mind, developing human relationships, understanding each other in this phase. Conclusion: The in-depth understanding of the workplace bullying experience has highlighted the importance of effective communication for cultivating desirable human relationships between nurses.
