  • The simulation programs with the kalman filter for the naval Electro Optical Tracking System(EOTS) is presented. We achieve that the dependency tracking aiming systems performance of EOTS can be enhanced by minimizing the target information error which including transfer delay and measurement. According to our experiment results, kalman filter can be used for various electro optical systems to eliminate error value.

  • In this paper, an advanced error tracking algorithm by using feedback channel was proposed for error resilient transmission. Using this proposed algorithm, the propagation of errors were reduced within the decoded data over bit error prone network. The addresses of corrupted blocks are reported to encoder by decoder. With negative acknowledgments of feedback channel, the encoder can precisely calculate negative acknowledgments and track the propagated errors by examining the backward motion dependency for proper pixel in the current encoding frame. The error-propagation effects can be terminated completely by INTRA refreshing the affected macro-blocks by using proposed error tracking algorithm. By utilizing the selective four-corner error tracking approximation, the error tracking computations of the proposed algorithm is less than that of the algorithm using full pixel without substantial degradation in video quality. The proposed algorithm can track errors rapidly and accurately.

  • Many message logging and checkpointing schemes are proposed for fault tolerance in distributed systems in which nodes communicate by message passing. Most researches for recoverable distributed shared memory (DSM) also adopt similar schemes used in message passing systems. However, schemes used in message passing systems are not always appropriate to be directly used in DSM systems because the two systems, message passing systems and DSM systems, have different natures (function shipping and data shipping). Many modified schemes have been proposed for DSM systems to resolve these differences. In this paper, an object oriented approach is proposed for recoverable DSM. We present a new dependency tracking scheme between pages instead of processes. Based on this scheme, we propose new checkpointing and recovery schemes that can reduce overhead to make DSM recoverable.

  • Daylighting systems offer substantial advantages over conventional ones in illuminating the building interior. Especially, considering that lighting accounts for about 28% of total energy consumption in buildings, the use of daylighting systems deem very important in lessening the dependency on artificial lighting. This work has carried out a survey and analysis to explore the characteristics and current status of various daylighting systems with solar tracking features recently introduced in Korea.

  • This paper presents an efficient stable logging scheme for the distributed shared memory system based on the lazy release consistent memory model. In the proposed scheme, inter-process dependency is traced and stable logging is performed when the dependency relation between processes actually happens. With the dependency tracking, the proposed scheme requires much less frequency of stable logging, comparing with the previous schemes in which stable logging is performed whenever any information transfer happens between processes. Also, in the proposed scheme, every data item accessed by a process is not logged, but only the access information is logged in the stable storage. For the recovery from a failure, the correct version of the accessed data items can be effectively traced by using the logged access information. As a result, the amount of logged information is also reduced.

  • An improved spray model of a pressure-swirl atomizer was developed and the grid dependency of the model was investigated. Since the Lagrangian-Eulerian approach was adopted for tracking droplets, very small grids could not be used. However, in order to detect swirl flow accurately, small grids were needed because of the consideration of swirl injection. In order to overcome these limitations, numerical studies were performed by using various grids with cell sizes ranging from 10.0 $\times$ 10 mm to 0.625 $\times$ 0.625 mm. From these calculated results, it was observed that the most efficient grid cell size was 1.25 $\times$ 1.25 mm.

  • Sentiments can profoundly affect individual behavior as well as decision-making. Confronted with the ever-increasing amount of review information available online, it is desirable to provide an effective sentiment model to both detect and organize the available information to improve understanding, and to present the information in a more constructive way for consumers. This study developed a unified phrase-based topic and sentiment detection model, combined with a tracking model using incremental hierarchical dirichlet allocation (PTSM_IHDP). This model was proposed to discover the evolutionary trend of topic-based sentiments from online reviews. PTSM_IHDP model firstly assumed that each review document has been composed by a series of independent phrases, which can be represented as both topic information and sentiment information. PTSM_IHDP model secondly depended on an improved time-dependency non-parametric Bayesian model, integrating incremental hierarchical dirichlet allocation, to estimate the optimal number of topics by incrementally building an up-to-date model. To evaluate the effectiveness of our model, we tested our model on a collected dataset, and compared the result with the predictions of traditional models. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of our model compared to several state-of-the-art methods.

  • In this study, the force tracking performance of the single-rod and double-rod type EHAs (Electro-Hydrostatic Actuators) was compared by computer simulation and experiments. The force-controlled EHAs exhibit non-linear behavior that are significantly dependent on operation conditions. The investigation focused on localizing the parameters that provide significant rise to the non-linearity. For this, the single-rod and double-rod type EHAs were mathematically expressed to derive their linear models. In parallel, they were modeled by a commercial simulation program including non-linear properties based on experimental results. It was shown that the dependency of the bulk modulus of oil with entrapped air on working pressure dominated the non-linearity in force control performance in case of the double-rod type EHA. The force control of the single-rod type EHA was influenced by much more elements. Besides the asymmetrical piston geometry and the non-linear bulk modulus of oil, its pilot-operated check valves made it dependent not only on the magnitude of reference input but also on its direction.

  • This paper presents a vision based walking robot control system using hand shape recognition. To recognize hand shapes, the accurate hand boundary needs to be tracked in image obtained from moving camera. For this, we use an active contour model-based tracking approach with mean shift which reduces dependency of the active contour model to location of initial curve. The proposed system is composed of four modules: a hand detector, a hand tracker, a hand shape recognizer and a robot controller. The hand detector detects a skin color region, which has a specific shape, as hand in an image. Then, the hand tracking is performed using an active contour model with mean shift. Thereafter the hand shape recognition is performed using Hue moments. To assess the validity of the proposed system we tested the proposed system to a walking robot, RCB-1. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed system.

  • In this study, a motion control problem for the vessels towed by tugboats or towing ships on the sea is considered. The towed vessels, such as barge ships, are used for several purposes. Generally, these vessels have no power propulsion system and are towed using ropes and towing vessel (tugboats). The basic mathematical model of the towed vessel in which three active rudders are attached was introduced from a previous study. Owing to the dependency of the motions of the towed vessel to the towing ship, a method is suggested to cope with the undesirable disturbance and improve the tracking performance. For the simulation study, a model of the towed vessel with a towing ship is made, and necessary physical parameters are identified from the experiment. For the defined and linearized model, a control system is designed, and the control performance is also evaluated. A simulation study is conducted and the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified.
