문헌정보학 교과과정의 특징적 변화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristic Changing of the Library and Information Science Curriculum)

  • 이 연구에서는 교과과정 연구가 심층적으로 진행된 1991년의 자료로부터 출발하여 2014년까지 약 23년간의 교과과정의 변화를 6~7년 단위로 분석하되, 문헌정보학 학문영역 중에서 특징적인 변화를 보여주는 분야를 심층적으로 분석하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 서지학 분야의 과목은 1997년 69과목에서 2014년에 51과목으로 줄어든 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 기록관리학 과목의 경우 2005년의 33과목에서 2014년에는 57과목으로 늘어난 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 어학분야의 과목은 1997년 63과목에서 2014년 19과목으로 줄어든 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 문헌정보학일반 분야에 분류된 과목들을 분석한 결과 문헌정보학개요 관련과목, 현장실습과목, 출판과저작권 관련과목, 진로지도 관련과목은 늘어나고 있는 것으로 나타났고, 도서관사 관련과목은 줄어들고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

  • 1. Library practice education in Korea is in the form of field experience, that is, Practicum, which is one type of field experience. 2. The practicum is a short-term work experience guided by the academic institutions. (2 to 6 weeks of full time employment in a library, or one to two semesters of approximately 10 to 12 hours weekly) 3. Field work is largely accepted as a required subject. 4. Field work is usually carried out during the first semester of senior year. (or of sophomore year in junior college) 5. Libraries in other universities (or in other institutions) can beused for a student's field work. But the current tendency is to use his or her own university's library. 6. Most universities give one credit for 2 weeks' field work. 7. The method of evaluation is strict: A or 'excellent' (above 90), B or 'good' (above 80), C or 'fair' (above 70), D or 'bad' (above 60). 8. The expense of field work is usually included in the tuition fees. However, some think that an additional fees should be collected in the case of special practice. 9. Respondents to my survey say that the field experience is necessary so that professional librarians can connect theory and practice. 10. They also indicate that there are some problems in library practice education: administrative difficulties in the department chairman's office, the burden on professors in the library being used, and the limited number of libraries in which the field work is practicable. 11. The Department of Library Science is responsible primarily for providing faculty supervision over the students, and secondarily for the preparation of evaluation cards and field work reports. 12. Most of the faculty respondents use evaluation cards for the field work, some of which serve as grade sheets, some as field work diaries, and some as field work reports.

일제 조선총독부의 문서관리에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Archives Management of $Chos\v{o}n-chongdokbu$)

  • Government archives are basic source materials in the historical study. Whereas, researches on the archives of Choson-chongdokbu have been very scant. Those archives contain information about both colonism of Japan and independent movement of Korea are comparatively well preserved at Government Archives and Record Services. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the characteristic of archives and to evaluate the system of archival management of Choson-chongdokbu. Based on the official gazette and archives of Choson-chongdokbu, this study has revealed the division of archival work, the writing and treatment of official document, compilation and preservation, and the procedure of use and destruction. As a result of the research, the followings have been identified; 1. Archival regulations were prepared by the instructions of Choson­chongdokbu at the early days of its establishment. Inspite of several revisions, its basis was maintained until 1945. 2. Each agency had its own archival department instead of central archives. 3. The archival department of Choson-chongdokbu controlled the archival administration of headquarters and attached agencies. But the secret archives were managed by the secretarial department. 4. The writing and treatment of archives were done by the archival regulation made in 1911. 5. Each agency had set more or less different preservation period. 6. There were three ways of using archives, 1) the in-house reading 2) the loan 3) the transcriptions. The archives passed the preservation period were destroyed in accordance with the related departments.

영국(英國)의 국가도서관제도(國家圖書館制度)

  • 영국(英國)에서는 대학도서관(大學圖書館), 공공도서관(公共圖書館) 및 특수도서관(特殊圖書館)을 포함하여 각종(各種)의 도서관(圖書館)이 많이 있다. 그러나 불과 몇 달전까지만 해도 국가도서관제도(國家圖書館制度)가 없었다는 것은 경이(驚異)할만한 일이며, 세계적(世界的)으로 유명(有名)한 영국박물관도서관(英國博物館圖書館)도 공식적(公式的)인 국가도서관(國家圖書館)이 아니었기 때문이다. 1972년(年)에 새로운 입법(立法)이 통과되어, 소위 "영국도서관(英國圖書館)"이라 불리우는 국립도서관(國立圖書館)이 현재(現在) 건립중(建立中)에 있는데, 이것은 영국박물관도서관(英國博物館圖書館)(British Museum Library), 국립과학발명참고도서관(國立科學發明參考圖書館)(National Reference Library of Science and Invention), 국립과학기술대출도서관(國立科學技術貸出圖書館)(National Lending Library for Science and Technology), 국립중앙도서관(國立中央圖書館)(National Central Library) 및 영국국립서지관(英國國立書誌館)(British National Bibliography)을 통합(統合)하여 3부(部)로 구성(構成)되어질 것이다.

한국 문헌정보학 교육 및 연구의 발전 동향에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Library & Information Science Education and Research Development in Korea)

  • 본 논문은 우리나라에서 문헌정보학 교육과 연구 분야에서의 활동과 실적을 조사 및 정리해 보고, 이 분야 발전을 위하여 앞으로의 방향을 모색해보는데 연구 의의가 있다. 연구결과 문헌정보학 분야에서의 주요 이슈는 다음과 같이 나타났다. 1) 국내 문헌정보학과들은 교과과정을 꾸준히 재구성 중에 있다. 2) IT 교육을 강화해나가고 있다. 3) (주제) 전문직 사서를 배출하기 위하여 학부과정에서 복수전공 과정을 도입하고 있다. 4) 연구영역에서 활발한 분야는 도서관경영, 정보조직, 정보학 등으로 나타났다. 5) 최근 들어 연구 분야가 다양화되고 있는데 정보검색, 기록관리, 출판 분야로 영역이 확장되고 있다.

Data Aspects in Library and Information Science CurriculA in Selected African Universities

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study was to investigate data aspects in Library and Information Science curricula at all levels in selected African Universities. Design/methodology/approach - A review of existing literature on data aspects and LIS Curricula. Secondly, the study juxtaposed web-based courses for fourteen LIS schools to establish data aspects incorporated into their curricula. Findings - The study's findings found that although many LIS schools have some form of data aspects in curricula, coverage is still very limited and basic.

미국과 영국의 도서관$\cdot$정보정책위원회 조직과 활동에 대한 분석 (Analysis on the Organizational Structure and Activities of Library and Information Advisory Committee in USA and UK)

  • 미국의 '국가문헌정보학위원회'(NCLIS)와 영국의 '도서관ㆍ정보위원회'(LIC) 그리고 이 기구가 통합ㆍ개편된 '박물관ㆍ기록보존소·도서관위원회'(Resource)의 기능ㆍ조직구성 ·활동 등을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 별도 법률에 의거한 대통령 직속의 독립기관인 미국의 NCLIS는 관련 정부기관과 의회에 대한 강력한 자문기능을 수행함으로써, 정부정책의 집행기능을 담당하는 IMLS와 함께 미국 도서관ㆍ정보서비스 향상의 견인 역할을 하고 있다. 또한 영국의 LIC와 Resource는 문화ㆍ매체ㆍ체육부 산하의 위원회임에도 불구하고, 정부 재정부담에 의거한 활발한 정책연구와 자문활동을 통해 영국 도서관 발전에 크게 기여하고 있음을 밝힘으로써, 우리나라 자문기구의 법제화에 시사점을 제시하고자 하였다.

A Comparative Research of Library Law in Korea and Japan: Focusing on the Enactment and Revision Processes

  • Korea and Japan have been influenced by one another through various points in their respective histories. During ancient times and throughout the Middle Ages, many aspects of culture and modern civilisation were conveyed from China to Japan via Korea. This trend changed in the second half of the $19^{th}$ century, as Japan opened its ports to foreign trade, completely reforming its own society before Korea followed suit. The aspects of modern civilisation and culture were thus subsequently conveyed to Korea from Japan. Not unlike Western cultures of the time, Japan also engaged in a pursuit of imperialism that resulted in its subjugation of Korea during the Japanese occupation. After Korea regained its independence following the Second World War, Koreans rebuilt their country largely on the basis of the social system Japan had left behind. 70 years later, differences from the Japanese model may nevertheless be observed in various areas. Library legislation is no exception. This paper provides a comparison of Korean and Japanese library laws. The comparison and consideration of the enactment and revision processes of library legislation of both countries reveals how differences in legislation developed and provides an analysis of the implementation of these differences.

Journal Publishing and Authorship in Library and Information Science by Early Career Researchers in South Korea

  • This study explored journal publishing and authorship by South Korean early career researchers (ECRs) in the field of library and information science (LIS). This research analyzed relevant journal publication data and conducted interviews to obtain information on the experiences and opinions of ECRs. Results indicated that South Korean ECRs in LIS were highly productive. This was evidenced by their annual publishing rate of 2.04 articles per person. In addition, Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) publications were produced at an annual average of 0.26 articles per person, while the quartile ratings for SSCI journal publications were also relatively high. However, unlike the trends seen in other academic fields, their collaborative research efforts were not considered very high because such efforts did not correspond to half their total publications. ECRs often participate as lead or corresponding authors despite being new researchers. ECRs are publishing first in the journals approved by their universities. These researchers cannot receive proper credit if the journal was not approved in this manner. ECRs are particularly disadvantaged when publishing in international journals corresponding to specific areas that are not on the SSCI list. By examining the journal publishing and authorship efforts of ECRs, this study discovered a variety of difficulties that should be addressed. For example, South Korean universities do not currently have cooperative research guidelines to solve authorship problems. The results from this study can serve as a basis to establish academic publishing and authorship policies while promoting scholarly communication in LIS and other scientific fields.

백진분류법설계 (Plan for Centesimal Classification (PCC))

  • DDC, LCC, and CC can be said as the major schemes for mordern general library classification. Among these, DDC, since its publication in 1876, has been continuously studies and revised by many scholars and practitioners to publish 20th edition in 1989: LCC also has been studied and revised by the specialists in each subject, since 1904; and CC(first edition 1933) is now on the stage of 7th edition(1987). Even though studied, revised and developed by many classificationists, all these schemes maintain the general framework of the beginning, only with the partial revision and expansion to reflect the developments of the subjects. and antioipated tremendous amount of works resulted from reclassification also can be a reason that disturbs the full innovative revision of the scheme, because these are used in many libraries as a basic tools for the classification. But all these schemes mainly based on the state of the discipline at the time of their creation, the beginning of 20the century, and so in some aspect it is natural for them to have many problems. This study aims to investigate the problems in these major schemes, to find some ways to solve the problems, and to suggest the ideas for the basic design of a new modern library classification scheme. This plan is prepared to be applied to the situation of all countries equally without any revision. And in its notation, it uses two digits of Arabic numerals as centesimal, and so it is named provisionally to Plan for Centesimal Classification (PCC).
