Shifting Planting Dates and Fertilizer Application Rates as Climate Change Adaptation Strategies for Two Rice Cultivars in Cambodia

  • We attempted to assess the impact of climate change on rice yields in Cambodia and to investigate adaptation strategies to climate change including more drastically shifting the planting dates and considering more fertilizer application levels. The potential yields of two wet season rice cultivars (Sen Pidao and Phka Rumduol) under two climate change scenarios in Cambodia were simulated using the CERES-Rice model. Field experiments conducted at the Cambodian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI), in 2010, 2011, and 2013 and climate variables from the HadGEM3-RA model were collected for this study. Compared with the baseline (1991-2000), yields of Sen Pidao rice will decrease under climate change and yields of Phka Rumduol rice could increase or decrease depending on fertilizer rates and the periods (2040s, 2050s, and 2080s). In general, the variations in the simulated effects of climate change on yields were more sensitive at fertilizer N100-N200 and less sensitive at fertilizer N0-N50. It is likely that forward shifts of planting date from the baseline plating date for the two cultivars in the future can be more benefitted than backward shifts. It is concluded that the CERES-Rice model can be useful to provide efficacious adaptation strategies in Cambodia.

Metabolomics reveals potential plateau adaptability by regulating inflammatory response and oxidative stress-related metabolism and energy metabolism pathways in yak

  • Species are facing strong selection pressures to adapt to inhospitable high-altitude environments. Yaks are a valuable species and an iconic symbol of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Extensive studies of high-altitude adaptation have been conducted, but few have focused on metabolism. In the present study, we determined the differences in the serum metabolomics between yaks and the closely related species of low-altitude yellow cattle and dairy cows. We generated high-quality metabolite profiling data for 36 samples derived from the three species, and a clear separation trend was obtained between yaks and the other animals from principal component analysis. In addition, we identified a total of 63 differentially expressed metabolites among the three species. Functional analysis revealed that differentially expressed metabolites were related to the innate immune activation, oxidative stress-related metabolism, and energy metabolism in yaks, which indicates the important roles of metabolites in high-altitude adaptation in yaks. The results provide new insights into the mechanism of adaptation or acclimatization to high-altitude environments in yaks and hypoxia-related diseases in humans.

부서이동을 경험한 간호사의 간호근무환경, 대인관계능력, 그릿이 현장적응에 미치는 영향 (A Study on Impact of Nursing Work Environment, Interpersonal Skills, and Grit on Field Adaptation of Nurses Who Have Experienced Department Transfers)

  • Purpose : This study aims to identify the factors influencing field adaptation among nurses who have undergone department transfers, by examining the levels of and the relationships between their nursing work environment, interpersonal skills, grit, and field adaptation. Methods : The study involved 137 nurses who had experienced at least one department transfer within the last three years across two hospitals. Data analysis was performed using SPSS/WIN 29.0, involving descriptive statistics, means, standard deviations, independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé post-hoc tests, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis (enter method). Results : Factors affecting field adaptation included the nursing work environment (β=.37, p<.001), interpersonal skills (β=.19, p=.021) and grit (β=.18, p=.025), with a total explanatory power of 31% (F=12.16, p<.001). Conclusion : This study contributes insights into effective nursing personnel management, offers foundational data for managing department transfers, and aims to improve the overall quality of nursing care.

2~3일 밤번근무 간호사의 일주기 수면유형, 수면의 질, 밤번근무 적응도의 관계 (A Study on the Relationship among Circadian Types, Sleep Quality and Adaptation to Night Shifts among Nurses Working on Two or Three Day Night Duties)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify relationships among circadian types, sleep quality, and adaptation to night shifts among nurses working on two or three day night duties. Methods: The participants were 199 ward nurses from two university hospitals in Gyeongnam province. Each nurse worked on two or three day night duties. Data were collected between September 24 and October 14, 2012 and analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\grave{e}}$ test, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 14.0 program. Results: Mean scores for sleep quality and adaptation to night shifts was $4.92{\pm}1.46$ on a 10-point scale and $2.66{\pm}0.47$ on a 5-point scale respectively. There were no significant differences in sleep quality and adaptation to night shifts according to circadian types of nurses. There were significant correlation between sleep quality and adaptation to night shifts (r=.25, p<.001). Factors affecting adaptation to night shifts were preference for night shifts, and subjective health status, which together explained about 35% of the total variance. Conclusions: Nurses working on two or three day night duties had low level of sleep quality and adaptation to night shifts. It is necessary to improve preference for night shifts and subjective health status for improving adaptation to night shifts of nurse.

임상실습 1년차의 임상실습적응에 미치는 영향 요인 (Factors Affecting the Clinical Practice Adaptation of the First Year of Clinical Practice)

  • 본 연구는 임상실습 1년차 학생을 대상으로 임상실습적응에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하여 임상실습적응을 높이기 위한 대책 마련의 기초자료를 마련하고자 시도되었다. 연구대상자는 G도의 간호대학생과 의과대학생 153명을 대상으로 하였다. 자료수집은 2019년 4월 1일부터 4월 30일까지였고, 자료분석은 IBM SPSS WIN/21.0을 이용하여 t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, Multiple regression 을 사용하였다. 대학적응은 평균 3.37점, 인성은 평균 3.82점. 대인관계 유능성은 평균 3.61점, 의사소통은 평균 3.56점, 임상실습적응은 평균 3.54점이었다. 임상실습적응은 대학적응, 인성, 대인관계 유능성, 의사소통과 순상관관계가 있었다(p<.001). 임상실습에 가장 영향을 미치는 요인은 대인관계 유능성(β=.502, p<.001)이었고, 그 다음으로 학과적응(β=-.215, p<.001), 대학적응(β=.174, p=.010) 순으로 나타났다. 설명력은 41.1%이었다(F=34.11, p<.001). 따라서 임상실습적응의 향상을 위해 대인관계 유능성을 높여줄 수 있는 방안이 필요하며, 대학생활적응을 위한 인성교육 프로그램에는 자신에 대해 생각해보고 이해할 수 있는 계기마련과 지속적인 만남을 통한 타인의 이해와 타인수용이 필요하다. 또한, 반복적인 의사소통 훈련을 통한 대인관계능력을 향상을 시킬 수 있는 내용의 체계적인 교육을 제공하는 것이 필요하다.

간호대학생의 팀워크와 간호전문직관이 임상 실습 적응에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Teamwork and Nursing professionalism on Clinical Practicum Adaptation of the Nursing Students)

  • 본 연구는 간호대학생의 팀워크와 간호전문직관이 임상 실습 적응에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위한 연구이다. 2019년 8월 5일부터 8월 30일까지 J 대학교 간호학과 4학년 학생을 대상으로 자료를 수집하였고, 115부를 최종 분석에 이용하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 23.0 프로그램을 이용하여 Independent t-test와 One way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Multiple regression을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 임상 실습 적응에 영향을 미치는 요인은 팀워크, 임상 실습 시 임시 주거 형태, 임상 실습에 대한 만족도였으며 이들 변수는 전체 변량의 67%의 설명력을 보였고 임상 실습 적응에 가장 큰 영향요인은 팀워크로 나타났다. 따라서 간호대학생의 임상 실습 적응을 위해 팀워크의 중요성을 인식하고 팀워크를 강화시킬 수 있는 프로그램 개발 및 적용이 필요하다.

The Effect of Depression, Anxiety, and Stress on International Students' Adjustment to College Life in the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemics

  • This study examined the relationship between depression, anxiety, stress, and adaptation to college life of international students living in South Korea during the COVID-19 pandemic and the factors affecting the adaptation to college life. This study was carried out between December 3, 2021, to January 25, 2022, on international students living in South Korea. The questionnaires were composed of self-reported questionnaires, and the survey URL was sent as text messages to international students who understood the purpose and rationale of this study and consented to participate in the survey. The data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 22.0, and t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, and hierarchical regression were performed. As a result of the study, the average score of the study subjects was 8.44 points for depression, 8.28 points for anxiety, and 9. 28 points for stress. factors with significant differences in adaptation to college life according to general characteristics were living means and smoking. The relationship between the main variables, it was significant with depression (r=-.785, p<.001), anxiety (r=-.593, p<.001), and stress (r=-.726, p<.001). There was one negative correlation. It was found that the higher the depression, anxiety, and stress, the lower the college life adaptation. Lastly, depression (β=-.666, p<.001) was the factor affecting foreign students' adaptation to college life, and the explanatory power was 62%. Therefore, for international students to adapt to college life, it is necessary to establish an institutional strategy to detect depression, a negative psychological emotion, at an early stage and to systematically manage it. Also, it is necessary to find an intervention plan to relieve depression that can be applied in social isolation situations due to the spread of infectious diseases. Research confirming the intervention effect should be upgraded.

간호대학생의 건강증진행위와 대학생활적응이 취업전략에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Health Promotion Behaviors and University Life Adaptation to Employment Strategies of Nursing Students)

  • 본 연구는 간호대학생의 건강증진행위, 대학생활적응 및 취업전략 정도를 확인하고 각 변수들간의 상관성 및 취업전략에 관련된 요인을 파악하고자 시도되었으며, 서술적 조사연구로 설계되었다. 자료수집은 G시의 일개 간호대학교에서 2017년 9월 1일부터 9월 30일까지 수집되었다. 연구대상자는 본 연구의 목적을 이해하고 동의한 221명의 간호대학생들이 참여하였으며, 참여자들은 구조화된 자가 설문지를 통해 건강증진행위, 대학생활적응 및 취업전략을 작성하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 22.0 프로그램을 사용하여 빈도와 백분율, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson 상관계수, 다중회귀분석을 시행하였다. 본 연구결과, 간호대학생의 건강증진행위 평균점수는 $2.11{\pm}.34$점, 대학생활적응 평균점수는 $3.47{\pm}.67$점, 취업전략 평균점수는 $3.24{\pm}.56$점이었다. 건강증진행위와 대학생활적응 (r=.437, p<.001), 건강증진행위와 취업전략 (r=.536, p<.001), 대학생활적응과 취업전략(r=.615, p<.001)은 통계적으로 유의한 양의(+) 상관관계를 나타냈다. 간호대학생들의 취업전략에 영향을 미치는 요인은 대학 생활적응, 건강증진행위, 환경변화적응, 건강상태로 나타났으며, 이들 변수의 설명력은 49.7%이었다. 결론적으로, 간호대학생의 취업전략은 건강증진행위, 대학생활적응과 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서, 간호대학생의 건강증진행위, 대학생활적응과 취업전략을 향상시키기 위해 프로그램개발과 반복연구, 교육과정개선이 필요하다.

THE EFFECTS OF ZINC DURING VISUAL ADAPTATION OF VERTEBRATE EYE

  • Zinc plays a key role in genetic expression, cell division, and growth and is essential for the function of more than 200 enzymes; effects of zinc deficiency induce many syndromes, including abnormal visual adaptation. The pigment epithelium (EP) contains high concentrations of zinc in humans and in animals and it participates in threshold elevation, visual sensitivity increment, and acceleration of rhodopsin regeration during visual adaptation. The origin of c-wave of electroretinogram(ERG) is not only pigment epithelium as shown in present research, but also other cell layers, perhaps the photoreceptors. We propose zinc as a candidate for an internal messenger which participates in signal amplification.

셀프리더십과 비판적 사고성향이 간호대학생의 대학생활 적응에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Self-leadership and Critical Thinking Disposition on College Adaptation among Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: This study examined the effects of self-leadership and critical thinking disposition on adaptation to college among nursing students. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted with 325 nursing students using a self-report questionnaire. Data were analyzed using a t-test, one way ANOVA, $Scheff{\dot{e}}$ test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression analysis with SPSS 20.0. Results: The mean score of college adaptation was 3.22. Significant predictor variables affecting adaptation to college were satisfaction in major (${\ss}=.45$, p<.001), behavior-focused strategies (${\ss}=.16$, p<.001), leadership level (${\ss}=.15$, p=.003), and grade (${\ss}=.11$, p=.016). The explanation power of this regression model was 32.2% and was statistically significant (F=64.60, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that an effective college adaptation program should be developed by including improvement of satisfaction in major, behavior-focused strategies, and leadership level.
