Multispectral X-ray imaging to distinguish among dental materials

  • Purpose: Dual-energy X-ray imaging is widely used today in various areas of medicine and in other applications. However, no similar technique exists for dental applications. In this study, we propose a dual-energy technique for dental diagnoses based on voltage-switching. Materials and Methods: The method presented in this study allowed different groups of materials to be classified based on atomic number, thereby enabling two-dimensional images to be colorized. Computer simulations showed the feasibility of this approach. Using a number of different samples with typical biologic and synthetic dental materials, the technique was applied to radiographs acquired with a commercially available dental X-ray unit. Results: This technique provided a novel visual representation of the intraoral environment in three colors, and is of diagnostic value when compared to state-of-the-art grayscale images, since the oral cavity often contains multiple permanent foreign materials. Conclusion: This work developed a technique for two-dimensional dual-energy imaging in the context of dental applications and showed its feasibility with a commercial dental X-ray unit in simulation and experimental studies.

치과위생사의 계속교육을 통한 직무에 대한 만족도 (Through continuing education of dental hygienists for the job satisfaction)

  • Objectives : The purpose of the study was to explorer the extent to which the dental hygienist demand for higher education. Methods : This study was done using the statistical package for social sciences 12.0 (SPSS 12.0) for windows. The results was as followed. Results : Participation continuing education 42.3%, do not attend the continuing education 57.7%. General characteristics of respondents according to education after graduation, in recognition of the existence, winning less than five years if is the most was higher with 42.9%, to 50.5% in the current academic year graduated colleges is the most highly(p<0.05). Through continuing education, improve 'self-regard and identity' $3.12{\pm}.49$ was the highest. General characteristics of subjects with continuing education in accordance with the highest satisfaction of the relevant item 'future work areas hope' has been investigated(p<0.05). Conclusions : Dental hygienists as one of professionals taking responsibility and duties on oral health need to make effort to satisfy. While they show infinite ability, possible as they can and overcome given environment and situation.

광주지역 근무기관별 치과위생사의 근무환경에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Working Environment of Dental Hygienists Residing in the Gwangju Area)

  • 광주지역 치과위생사의 근무환경에 관한 전반적인 내용을 조사하고 문제점을 파악하여 전문인력의 효율적인 관리와 향후 치과위생사의 보다 나은 근무환경의 개선방안을 제시할 목적으로 회수된 설문지를 이용하여 분석한 결과다. 1. 연구대상자의 총 근무경력은 '36개월 이하'가 39.9%로 가장 많았으며, 근무기관에 따라 종합병원은 '61개월 이상'이 50.0%, 치과병원과 치과의원은 '36개월 이하'가 각각 51.3%, 39.9%로 가장 많았다. 2. 근무기관별 근무일수는 종합병원과 치과병원은 '5일'이 각각 95.0%, 82.1%, 치과의원은 '6일 이상'이 97.7%이었으며, 근무시간의 경우 '9시간 이상'이 종합병원은 85.0%, 치과병원은 92.1%, 치과의원은 63.2%로 가장 많았다(p < 0.001). 3. 근무기관별로 장기근무자에 대한 우대조사에서 종합병원은 '수당지급'이 50.0%, 치과병원은 '휴가, 여행 및 승진기회제공'이 56.4%, 치과의원은 '없다'가 56.8%로 가장 많았다(p < 0.001) 4. 총 근무 년 수에 따른 월평균 실 수령액을 살펴보면 36개월 이하에서는 '110만원 이하'가 60.6%, 37-60개월인 경우는 '131-160만원'이 41.5%, 61개월 이상인 경우 '131-160만원'이 42.2%로 가장 많았다.(p < 0.001). 광주광역시 치과위생사의 근무환경에 대한 연구를 종합한 결과 질 높은 의료서비스 창출을 위하여 치과위생사에 대한 적정한 보상과 동기를 부여함으로서 근로의욕을 고취시키고 장기 근무자에 대한 처우대책 및 복리후생증진을 도모하여 병원 경영을 관리 및 운영한다면 인력난의 문제뿐만 아니라 치과의료 서비스의 질적 향상을 통한 국민의 구강건강증진의 목적을 달성할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

임상치과위생사의 소진과 공감피로, 공감만족 및 사회적 지지와의 관계 (The Relationship among Burnout, Compassion Fatigue, Compassion Satisfaction and Social Support of Clinical Dental Hygienists)

  • 본 연구는 임상 치과위생사를 대상으로 소진, 공감피로, 공감만족 및 사회적 지지의 관계를 파악하고 소진에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하기 위해 수행되었다. 연구대상은 편의 추출된 대전광역시, 충청남도 및 충청북도에 소재하는 치과병 의원에 근무하고 있는 313명의 치과위생사를 대상으로 하였으며, 자료는 구조화된 설문지를 이용하여 2013년 6월 17일부터 7월 31일까지 수집하였다. 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 연구대상자의 소진 총점은 $27.12{\pm}4.70$점, 공감피로 총점은 $28.39{\pm}3.93$점, 공감만족 총점은 $31.99{\pm}6.01$점, 사회적지지 총점은 $45.27{\pm}6.40$점으로 나타났다. 일반적 특성과 비교한 결과, 소진은 연령이 낮을수록(p=0.038), 기혼보다 미혼인 경우에(p<0.001), 임상경력이 1~5년인 경우에(p<0.001), 의원급보다 병원급에 근무할수록(p=0.002), 직급이 낮을수록(p<0.001), 급여가 낮을수록(p<0.001) 통계적으로 유의하게 나타났다. 공감만족은 기혼인 경우(p<0.001), 직급이 높을수록(p<0.001), 급여가 높을수록(p=0002) 통계적으로 유의하게 나타났다. 사회적 지지는 임상경력이 높을수록(p=0.019), 병원급보다 의원급에 근무할수록(p<0.001), 직급이 높을수록(p=0.002) 통계적으로 유의하게 나타났다. 각 변수간의 상관관계 결과, 소진은 공감피로와 정적 상관관계를 보였으나 상관성은 약하였고, 공감만족과 사회적 지지는 부적 상관관계를 보였다. 공감만족은 사회적 지지와 정적 상관관계를 보였다. 소진에 영향을 미치는 관련 변수로는 근무기관형태(p=0.031), 공감피로(p<0.001), 공감만족(p<0.001), 사회적 지지(p<0.001)로 나타났고, 이들 변수의 설명력은 56.9%였다. 결론적으로 공감피로, 공감만족 및 사회적 지지는 임상 치과위생사의 소진에 영향을 미치는 것으로, 치과위생사의 공감피로를 줄이고 공감만족과 사회적 지지를 높여 소진을 감소시킬 수 있는 인적 자원 관리의 체계적인 연구가 필요하다고 생각된다.

부산권 치과위생사의 정서적 조직몰입 영향 요인 분석 -근로생활의 질을 중심으로- (Analysis of Impact Factors of Affective Commitment in Organization of Dental Hygienist in Susan Area -Focused on Quality of Working Life(QWL)-)

  • 이 연구는 치과위생사의 정서적 조직몰입에 영향을 미치는 근로생활의 질 요인을 분석함으로써 이들의 근로생활의 질 향상과 더불어 조직에의 애착과 몰입을 추구하고 근로생활의 보람과 궁극적인 삶의 만족도를 높이는 방안을 찾고 치과경영에서의 인적관리의 방향성을 제시하고자 하였다. 조사대상은 부산 경남 지역에 위치한 치과 의료기관에 근무하는 치과위생사를 대상으로 설문조사 하였고 197부의 설문지를 연구에 이용하였다. 연구결과 근로생활의 질과 정서적 몰입의 구성요소 간 요인별로 높은 상관관계를 보였고, 정서적 조직몰입에 영향을 미치는 근로생활의 질 요인 분석 결과 근무환경, 인간관계, 사회적 유익성이 정서적 조직몰입에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 이에 치과 의료기관은 인적 경영관리 차원에서 근무환경 및 복리후생 개선과, 직원 간 원활한 인간관계를 형성할 수 있도록 하며, 정기적 사회봉사나 지역주민을 위한 서비스 제공으로 자긍심과 애사심을 고취시키고, 치과위 생사들은 보다 긍정 적 인 생각으로 근무기관과 자기발전을 위해 끊임 없는 노력으로 업무능력 향상과 직업적 가치를 높이는 것이 중요하다고 생각된다.

치과기공사의 분진노출 수준 및 개인보호구 착용 실태 - 대구지역을 중심으로 - (Assessment of dust exposure and personal protective equipment among dental technicians)

  • Purpose: The study aimed to evaluate working environment for dental technician by measuring dust level, ventilation conditions and the use of personal protective equipment and to provide basic information required to improve working environment and develop health education programs for dental technician. Methods: A total of 240 dental technician who are registered with the Daegu Association of Dental technician and working at 34 dental laboratories participated in the study. And the dust level was measured at 21 different spots in 16 dental laboratories out of 34. Results: Of 34 dental laboratories, 31 (91.2%) were equipped with a ventilator, but the remaining 3 (8.8%) did not have a ventilator. By the number of ventilator, 1 to 3 ventilators were found in 22 dental laboratories (71.0%), 4 to 6 ventilators were in 7 laboratories (22.5%) and more than 7 ventilators in 2 laboratories(6.5%). According to the frequence of changing filters in dust collector, 20 dental laboratories (58.9%) changed filters every four weeks, 10 laboratories (29.4%) changed them every six weeks and 4 laboratories (11.7%) changed them every eight weeks. Of total respondents, 114 (61.3%) said they wore a mask all the time while working, 56 (29.6%) said they frequently wore a mask, 19 (10.1%) said they did not wear a mask. As for the type of masks, 159 (84.1%) used a disposable mask, 25 (13.2%) used a cotton mask and 5 (2.7%) used an anti-dust mask. For dust sat on their outfits while working, 102 (54.0%) shook their uniforms inside workplace to keep dust off the uniforms, 64 (33.9%) did not anything until they wash their uniforms and 23 (12.1%) shook their uniforms outside workplace to keep dust off the uniforms. Of total respondents, 182 (96.3%) had a particle in their eyes while carrying out grinding work. Based on the measurement of floating dust at workplace, 3 dental laboratories showed dust concentration exceeding the minimum level of 10 mg/$m^3$ allowed under the permit for environment. Of those, 1 laboratory had the dust concentration that was more than 1.5 times higher than the minimum level. Dust concentration was higher in laboratories that used a dust collector with 0.5 horse power and changed filters more than 3 weeks ago. Dust comprised of nickel (more than 70%), chrome (9%) and others. The mean chrome concentration was more than twice higher than the minimum permissible level of 0.5 mg/$m^3$. There were two laboratories that showed chrome concentration exceeding the level of 0.4 mg/$m^3$. Like dust concentration, chrome level was higher in laboratories that used a dust collector with 0.5 horse power and changed filters more than 3 weeks ago. There were six laboratories that had nickel concentration exceeding the minimum permissible level of 1 mg/$m^3$. Of those, one laboratory had nickel concentration that was more than three times higher than the minimum permissible level. Nickel concentration was also higher in laboratories that used a dust collector with 0.5 horse power and changed filters more than 3 weeks ago. Conclusion: It is not likely that heavy metal concentrations found in the study constitute respiratory dust. It is however necessary for health of dental technician to apply the Industrial Safety and Healthy Law to dental laboratories and make recommendations for the use of personal protective equipment, installation of a proper number of ventilators, more frequent change of filters in dust collector and improved ventilation for polishing work. At the same time, dental technician need education on how to use personal protective equipment and how to efficiently remove dust from their uniforms.

치과기공사의 직업만족도에 대한 조사 연구 I (근무처에 대한 만족도) (Workplace Situation and Satisfaction Level of Dental Laboratory Technicians)

  • Objectives; The purpose of the present study is to investigate workplace satisfaction level of dental technicians and the differences between that of dental lab owner's and that of employed dental technicians, who are working in dental laboratories. Methods; Samples were comprised of 137 dental technicians working in dental laboratories. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires and analyzed to frequency distribution, correlation, t-test and multiple regression analysis. Results; 1) Dental technicians generally are 'somewhat or a bit satisfied' with their workplace situations, regardless of position, sex, and individual career. 2) Mean values of 4 items out of 11 work situation factors of employed dental technicians were significantly lower than those of lab owner's. The 4 items are the openness of management, working environment, pay, and policy in promotion and raise. They would be sources of dissatisfaction and conflict. 3) Level of satisfaction was significantly correlated with 2 subordinate variables, i.e. working conditions and administration policy. There is a tendency that administration policy is a bit more important for lab owners, while working conditions are a bit more important for employed dental technicians. Conclusion; The employer-employee relationship of dental technicians seems to be sound, as no signs of troublesome problem is detected. But the discrepancy revealed in the above results is telling that there certainly exist some disagreement in the viewpoints of the two groups. It is necessary for the dental technicians to find ways to deal with the possible triggers of discord and discontent.

온라인 질문에 나타난 치과위생사의 정보요구도: 증례보고 (Searching information on online questions by Korean dental hygienists: Case report)

  • Online data can be explored for topics browsed by an unspecified population to detect professional information demands more quickly. The purpose of this study was to collect and analyze online questionnaires in order to find information required by dental hygienists. We analyzed the frequency of posting words after isolating nouns from questions of the Korean Dental Hygienists Association homepage's Q & A section, the Naver Knowledge-iN service, and a dental hygienists' online meeting site in Naver. We found that queries of the Korean Dental Hygienists Association's homepage were concentrated on education renewal and license notification. The queries about dental hygienists in the Naver Knowledge-iN service used words related to job or career choice, and the queries of the dental hygienist-affiliated site had many words related to dental practice, dental work, and turnover. This study showed that the information needs of unspecified dental hygienists varied depending on the online environment such as homepage, blog, and information service.

치과위생사의 직무 스트레스에 영향을 미치는 요인 분석 (A Study on Factors Affecting Dental Hygienists' Job Stress)

  • The purpose of this study is to find options which reduce the job stress and to enhance morale through a variable analysis, and also apply this data in the legal and administration fields. The data for the research was obtained from 217 dental hygienists working in the dental clinics, dental hospitals and university's dental hospitals' in Seoul. The tool used by this study was a Questionnaire measuring on-the-job stress of dental hygienists, was a modified and revised. The Questionnaire version used to measure bank's job stress and used to suggest options by Dae-ha Yoon(1991). Classification of items for measuring job stress was based on Theoretical Study on Job Stress by Dae-hyon Song(1986). The scale used in study was the two points (yes or no in the job stress) scale measuring for variables. The period of data collection was 30 days from December 4, 1995 to January 5, 1996. The methods of data collection were self-writing, direct visit, and postal Questionnaire answering, 224 copies of Questionnaire data were collected, but only 217 copies were used. 7 copies could not be analyzed, were not used for this study. The data analysis was conducted by SPSS after coding the collected raw data. The general characteristics was obtained from real digits and percentages. In order to analyze the difference of sub-variables against the job stress based on general characteristics. Mean, Standard Deviation, and F test (ANDVA) were conducted. The following were the results of job stress variables: 1. Meaningful variable affecting the working organization, is compensation system(p〈0.03). 2. Meaningful variable affecting the working period, is work overload(p〈0.02). 3. Meaningful variable affecting average patients per day, is the career management and payment(p〈0.04, p〈0.01). 4. Meaningful variable affecting number of staff, is the comrade relationship, role conflict among patients, work overload, and job overload(p〈0.000, p〈0.05, p〈0.04, p〈0.01). The comrade relationship is most affected to the number of staffs aides. 5. Meaningful variables affecting job diversion, are the desire and value, the non-role play, and the environment(p〈0.003, p〈0.02, p〈0.005).

우리나라 치과위생사 인력정책 현황 및 과제 (Issues and Challenges of Dental Hygienist Workforce Policy in Korea)

  • 치과보조인력 정책의 현황을 확인하기 위하여 치과보조인력 공급 현황, 지역별 분포, 법적 업무, 근무환경 등의 측면에서 관련 선행문헌고찰 및 자료수집 및 분석을 실시하고, 관련요인을 고찰함으로써 우리나라 정책의 문제점을 도출하고자 하였다. 치과위생사 수의 급격한 양적 증가가 있었음에도 불구하고, 활동 수는 전체의 절반에도 미치지 못하고, 치과계는 여전히 치과위생사 인력난을 경험하고 있다. 치과위생사의 수행업무를 고려했을 때 치과진료보조 업무 수행을 위한 전문적 치과보조인력의 활용이 제한적이다. 또한, 대도시를 중심으로 치과위생사 분포가 편중되고, 치과위생사로만 구성된 치과의료기관 비율이 높기 때문에 지역별 치과보조인력 분포의 불균형을 해결하기 위한 방안 마련이 필요하다. 수행 업무 중 많은 비중이 의료기사법에 구체적으로 명시된 사항이 아니므로 해당행위의 적법성을 판단하는 기준이 모호하다. 치과위생사의 직업수명, 업무 효율성, 직업전문성 및 만족도가 감소함에 따라 직무소진이 빠르게 나타나고 있다. 치과위생사의 법적 업무와 실제 수행하는 업무와의 괴리, 직역 간 갈등의 심화는 정부 차원에서의 치과의료인력의 활용 계획과 방안이 부재하기 때문인 것으로 검토된다. 이에 대해 정부에서는 치과의료서비스 수요에 따라 치과위생사 인력의 역할을 정립하고, 필요 정책을 제도화하며, 인력을 적절하게 활용하기 위한 계획을 수립하기 위한 노력을 해야 한다.
