The aim of this study was to confirm the association between obesity and periodontitis in adults and identify the convergence relationship between periodontal disease and health-related behavior at each stage of obesity among 10,058 adults aged 30-79 years from the 7th National Health and Nutrition Survey data. We performed chi-square tests and multivariate logistic regression analyses, adjusting for demographic characteristics and health status. We found that the higher the obesity stage, the higher the risk of periodontitis. Smoking, not using oral care products, and not attending dental check-ups were associated with periodontitis. In addition, we found a difference in influence factors according to the stage of obesity. Increase in obesity stage is a negative influence on the prevalence of periodontitis. Hence, an oral health program should be applied to the obesity management process.

This aim of this study is to assess the association of between glucose level and periodontal diseases in Korea adults. The data for analysis were obtained from Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2009. A total of 7,062 subjects who aged 19 years and above, underwent a medical and dental checkups. The prevalence of undiagnosed diabetes group was 27%, and the prevalence of impaired fasting glucose(IFG) group was 41.2%, diabetes group was 43.6% with periodontitis. IFG and diabetes had significantly higher prevalence of periodotontits compared to those having normal after adjusting confounding variables; the odds ratios were 1.35 (95% confidence interval: 1.17 to 1.55) and 1.27 (95% confidence interval: 1.02 to 1.58), respectively. This study has suggested that diabetes increases the risk of periodontal disease. Proactive, preventative dental and diabetes self care, as well as regular dental and diabetes assessment, are important management strategies for impaied fasting glucose and periodotnal health.
Objectives: This study aimed to identify the relationships of oral and systemic health-related characteristics with health-related quality of life (EQ-5D) in the elderly, and factors related to quality of life were compared according to age subgroups classified as either younger (young-old) or older (old-old) than 75 years of age. Methods: Data acquired by the Sixth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHANES) from 2013 to 2015 were used, and the research target was 3,124 people aged 65 years or older. A complex samples general linear model was used to identify health-related quality of life factors. Results: Education, economic activity, depression, stress, regular walking, self-rated oral health, pronunciation problems, and unmet dental care had significant effects on quality of life in both young-old and old-old participants. Marriage, income, number of systemic diseases, sleeping, and chewing inconveniences were significant factors for the young-old but not in the old-old participants. Instead, obesity and drinking were identified as significant factors in the old-old participants. Conclusions: We reaffirmed that factors affecting health-related quality of life in older adults differed by age group. We also confirmed the impact of oral health-related characteristics on this quality. Therefore, to improve quality of life for older adults, it would be efficient to divide groups by age and develop and implement programs that take relevant factors into consideration.
This study aimed to provide basic data for improving the quality of life related to oral health of the elderly by comparing the satisfaction factors by function before and after implantation targeting the elderly living in Hongseong, Chungcheongnam-do. From November 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021, a survey was conducted targeting people aged 55 or older living in Hongseong-gun, Chungcheongnam-do. A Likert 5-point scale was used to investigate chewing, social, and psychological functions, and a paried T-test was conducted to compare satisfaction by function. All factors for masticatory, social, and psychological function before and after implant surgery were significantly higher after implant surgery than before implant surgery(p<0.001). Implant surgery has a great influence on not only the oral health of the elderly but also the change in the quality of life, so more research on this is needed and measures are needed accordingly.

Objectives : The purpose of the this study was to obtain necessary source data for development of oral health improvement and promotion programs for the elderly by investigating the actual situations of oral health education related experience and needs that senior citizens had in Korea. Methods : In this study, convenience sampling was conducted in 430 senior citizens aged 65 years who lived in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do in Korea, for about six months from December 2011 to May 2012. For data collection, the structured questionnaire was used. Community-based senior citizens' welfare facilities and centres, as well as nearby churches were visited to inform them of the information on this study. Then, the senior citizens who agreed to participate in this study were given the questionnaire sheets. Excluding 33 copies of inadequately completed questionnaire sheets, 397 copies (92.3% of the entire collected data) were analyzed. Results : 1. In terms of the experience with oral health education, the number of elderly respondents who have not received oral health education was 202 (50.9%), whereas the number of those who have received oral health education was 195 (49.1%), which indicates that the latter shows a slightly higher proportion. 2. Examining the necessity for oral health education, the overall mean was 3.67 points based on 5 points as full marks, which suggests that senior citizens have high awareness of the necessity for oral health education. 3. Regarding the willingness to participate in oral health education, the number of those who answered that if any opportunity to receive oral health education is given, they would be willing to receive such the education was 211 (53.1%). Conclusions : Based upon the results mentioned above, we conclude that it is required to develop more systematic and sustained, life-long oral health education programs at the levels of senior citizen's welfare facilities and centres, in order to guide senior citizens to desirable oral health care practice.
Migrant Worker are rapidly increasing in Korea since 1990. They are nowadays main sources of laborer groups engaging in medium-sized factories. The purpose of this study is to provide the basic information to establish proper oral health policy. Dental caries and periodontal disese are the most common disease that occur in the mouth. Periodontal disease is the most common disease in humans and the biggest reason for the loss of the teeth in the adult population. The CPITIN has been developed jontly by the international Dental Federation and the World Health Organization. CPITN is now an established index of level, of periodontal condition in populations for which specific intervention might be considered. This study was conducted to obtain the information regarding to CPITN of migrant workers located in Daegu, Questionaire survey was carried out for 289 workers from July 9 to August 8, 2006. Total survey was 289, 224 males and 65 females. The result was as follows: First, The number of nationality was 14. The first majority was China as 31.8% Among 14 nationalities were Cambodia 18.0%, Vietnam 12.8%, Sri Lanka 12.1%, Indonesia 7.3%, Nepal 4.2%, the other 13.8%, those who are aged from 20 to 29 were 43.9%, and salary from 1,000,000 won to 1,490,000 won 51.2%.(as for their residence, those who resided) over 3 years were 42.6% and not insured reached 68.5%. Second, more than 93.4% of the subjects need periodontal treatment, only 4.9% of non-smoker was health periodontal states, four times frequency of tooth brushing per a day was 16.7%. Third, 28.7% of migrant workers had experienced visit of dental clinic, and 22.9% had received treatment of decayed tooth. Fourth, It is difficult for them 65.1% of them to visit dental clinic in korea, the First was a communication problem and the second was time. Fifth, Most of them didn't have a oral health education but 85.1% of them said that they wish they attend oral health education. We conclude that the situation of migrant workers was very bad considering their working conditions, circumstances, and health condition. According to this study, more than 93.4% of the people need periodontal treatment. Besides they didn't have accurate knowledge about prevention of periodontal disease. Therefor our considering these facts, the policy of dental health by government should be established for migrant workers.

The purpose of this study is to analyze trends in the prevalence of dental caries and demand for dental caries treatment among children under 14 years old using Health Insurance Review and Assessment data. The analysis was conducted using treatment records from a random sample of approximately 1 million pediatric patients from a population that included all children and adolescents for each year from 2011 to 2020. In this study, the number of children diagnosed with K02 dental caries and the number of children receiving dental caries treatment across all ages have increased. However, the number of children aged 10 to 14 who received pulp treatment or extraction has decreased. In the National Survey of Children's Oral Health, the decay-missing-filled teeth index for 5- and 12-year-olds has stagnated or increased slightly, but the percentage of the population with active dental caries has decreased. Accessibility and local environments for dental caries treatment have generally improved compared to the past, but preventive dental care has stagnated over the past decade. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of oral health programs implemented in Korea to promote and prevent dental caries among children.
The purpose of this study is to examine relations among the subjective oral symptoms, masticatory performance and life quality of aged people residing in some regions of a large city, ultimately providing basic information needed to develop and implement programs oral health project and oral health education programs for the oral health promotion of those people. For the above purpose, this researcher conducted a questionnaire survey of people aged 65 or over from July 14th to 30th, 2011. Among the copies of the questionnaire distributed to the subjects, 318 were recollected. Out the recollected forms, 18 which were deemed as in appropriately filled in were excluded, and the remaining 300 were finally analyzed. The results are as follows. Subjective oral symptoms and masticatory performance have correlation(p<0.001) with aged people's life quality. Factors of influencing life quality were indicated to be gender(p=0.046), age(p=0.008), appearance of living together(<0.001), masticatory performance(p<0.001), and temperature reaction(p=0.018). This study has limitation because of being information that was obtained just with questionnaire survey on subjective oral symptoms. It is considered that there is a need of surveying along with objective data on oral symptoms hereafter.

Purpose : The present study aimed to investigate the of the based on their oral health status and the study findings will provide the basic data for establishing future oral health related policies for the elderly. Methods : A total of 50 elderly participants were selected for the study. Oral examinations were performed by a single trained dental hygienist, the oral health status was classified according to the use of dentures, presence of temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) noise, presence of TMJ pain, presence of trismus, presence of preferred chewing, and number of residual teeth. An oral health-related survey using the in-person interview method was conducted by two dental hygienists and 30 types of foods were selected for the assessment of chewing ability. For data analysis, the Mann-Whitney U test and Spearman's Rho analysis were performed to investigate the association between oral health status and chewing ability. Result : The results of the present study revealed that there was a statistically significant positive (+) correlation between the number of residual teeth and chewing abilities. In other words, as the number of residual teeth increased, chewing ability increased as well, with the differences being statistically significant. Conclusion : Improvement of oral health in the elderly is a fundamental aspect of healthy aging. Therefore, the implementation of more efficient oral health care policies for the elderly is required as We move toward a super-aged society.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to evaluate the relation between the state of dental health(number of natural teeth) and nutritional status of Korean elderly using Korean Dietary Reference Intakes, which was an objective standard for nutritional intake based on database of Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, large scale of sample obtained by the government. Methods : Complex sampling procedure was used to analyze the fourth data(2007-2009) of Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. When preparing planning file, the estimator of variance as a stratification variance (variance name : kstrata), population of survey unit as a cluster variance(variance name : PSU), and previous exam and nutritional related weighted as a weighted were analyzed by considering reproduced survey and nutritional related total weighted. Complex samples chi-square test was used to estimate the relation between number of natural teeth and inadequate intake and relation factors included in the model were analyzed by complex samples logistic regression analysis. Results : The group of edentulous had a higher risk to intake less nutrient, except calcium, riboflavin and vitamin C than recommended level comparing to reference group which had natural teeth more than 20(phosphate : OR=1.763; 95% CI=1.273-2.443, thiamine : OR=1.748; 95% CI=1.276-2.395, protein : OR=1.610; 95% CI=1.213-2.138). Conclusions : The number of teeth in Korean elderly over 65 years old had a relation with nutritional status in this investigation. Especially, intake level of nutrients was different between the edentulous group and the reference group. Therefore, dental health care is needed from young and middle age to keep health dental condition for through whole life as well as old age. Although the dental condition of the aged is not good, it is evitable to educate them about the relation between dental health and nutritional ingestion to take balanced nutrition, we think.
