Analysis of th Factors related to the Happiness Index of Dental Hygienists on Convergence Study (치과위생사의 행복지수에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 융합연구)

  • This study was conducted to provide basic data on the dental hygienists Happiness Index and identify factors influencing dental hygienists A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted dental hygienists in Jeollabuk-do(Jeonju, Iksan, Gunsan) from October to November 2017. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression. As the result of study, Happiness Index of socioeconomic level has increased when the more work career, and more monthly wage, and better interpersonal relationship. Happiness Index of psychological well-being has increased when younger group and more monthly wage, and better interpersonal relationship. Therefore, in order to increase the happiness index of dental hygienists, economic compensation such as incentives and if the education of the communication method of the cases where the most difficulty case of the communication situation in the human relationship is confirmed is preceded, the quality of the medical service provided to the patient due to the happy working life will be improved.

The Relevance of Oral Health Related Quality of Life of the Oral-Cavity for Removable Denture Satisfaction of Senior Citizens Over 65 Years of Age (65세 이상 노인의 가철성 의치만족도와 구강건강관련 삶의 질의 관련성)

  • Objectives : This study explored ways to improve the quality of life related to oral health and the oral health of senior citizens by identifying the relevance of oral health-related quality of life issues, and satisfaction with dentures in elderly 65 years of age or older. Methods : This study surveyed 220 senior citizens who are currently using dentures and 65 years of age or older living in Busan. As a result, 200 questionnaires were returned. All of these questionnaires were used in the final analysis. The method of analysis was descriptive statistics using SPSS VER. 19.0, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and regression analysis. Results : First, when verifying the difference in the quality of the health-related life of the oral cavity in accordance with the general characteristics, only average monthly income showed a significant difference. Second, the results of the analysis for factors that affect the quality of the health -related life of the oral cavity, fixation satisfaction, and mastication satisfaction, in that order, affected the general satisfaction of the elderly. Conclusions : Dentures satisfaction and the quality of the health-related life of the oral cavity show a high correlation and causality.

The Effect of Oral Function on the Quality of Life of Korean Adults by Age Group (한국 성인 연령층별 구강기능이 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : The aim of the present study was to propose more substantial data for evaluating the quality of life of adults in terms of oral health as well as provide the basic data necessary to develop an effective oral health care program that improves the quality of life of adults by age group. Methods : Raw data were used from the sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for the first and second years which was conducted from January 2013 to December 2014. Multiple regression analysis was conducted with the collected data by gender and age group to determine the impact of oral functions on the quality of life of adults. Results : It turned out that oral function has an impact on the quality of life of adults by age group as follows: young people (${\beta}$=.077), middle-age people (${\beta}$=.101), young-old elderly people (${\beta}$=.140), and old-old elderly people (${\beta}$=.143). It was shown that as people grow older, they have better quality of life only when they have good oral function. Conclusions : It is necessary to develop a proper oral health care program that prevents oral diseases and improves oral function by age group, which eventually will lead to good oral health. Continuous oral healthcare is also considered necessary.

Comparative Analysis of Dietary Intake for Introduction of Meal Service in Pavilion of the Elderly living in Rural Area (농촌거주 노인정 급식도입을 위한 식생활 비교 평가 연구)

  • Aging rate of rural area in our country is relatively high compared to that of the urban area. Thus, the introduction of meal service for the elderly residing in the rural area is necessary for their better living quality. Food habit, health and the nutritive intake conditions during the busy farming season were surveyed and comparative analysis of dietary intake for the introduction of meal service in pavilion of the elderly living in Chungnam, Kangwon, Jeonnam and Kyungbuk was performed for basic reference data of meal service introduction to the pavilion of the elderly in rural area. In general subject, the male elderly had a significant difference in marital state and showed that 79.4% was married and 20% was separated by death(P<0.05). In allowance, there were no significant difference but most of them lived with less then three hundred thousand won and especially, female lived with less then one hundred thousand won. In health state, the female elderly showed significant difference on difficulty with every day activity but with small trouble although they had to prepare their own meal(P<0.05). The condition dental health conditions of the female elderly had a significant difference showing bad conditions in following order; Kangwon(48%)>Chungnam(38.1%)>Kyungbuk(22.9%)>Jeonnam(22.5%)(p<0.05). The female elderly showed a significant difference in usage of denture and number of the female elderly without using the denture were very high(p<0.05). In nutrition intake condition, amount of sodium was very high but intakes of fiber and calcium were relatively 1ow(P<0.05). Meal service introduction in the pavilion of the elderly is suggested for the improvement of the life quality of the elderly in rural area. When developing the menu for them, conditions such as shortage of the fiber and calcium in diets, the dental conditions should be considered.

The comparison of the subjects's oral health state who were benefited from the elderly scaling care service program(From the visitors of 5 public health centers in South Jeolla Province) (노인 스켈링 사업 대상자의 구강건강상태 비교(전남지역 일부 보건소를 방문한 노인 대상으로))

  • Objectives : In an aging society, as the necessity of the elderly oral health care was increased, the oral health dimensions was a lot more visible important to a community public health service for the quality of life improvement. In oral health care of the elderly, the periodic scaling treatment was required to manage periodontal tissue care. Methods : So, the 319 elderly people were selected by a random sampling method, those who are visitors of 5 public health centers in the South Jeolla Province. based on the findings of personal interview questionnaires and oral health states from these elderly subjects, we made a comparative analysis of oral health states of the elderly scaling program subjects. Results : 1. Among the participants, 52.4% of the elderly benefited from scaling care project otherwise 47.6%, the subjects with periodontal diseases were 78.4%, whereas 21.6% of the ones who don't. 2. In regard to perceptions of oral cavity abnormal symptoms, findings revealed that the teeth smart sensation with something cold was 'yes' 62.7%, 'No' 37.3%, gingival bleeding was 'yes' 61.4%, 'No' 38.6%, oral odor(halitosis) was 'yes' 63.3%, 'No' 36.7%, and dried mouth was 'yes' 63.3%, 'No' 36.7%. 3. The study data showed 73.2% of periodontal disease subjects, and 24.6% of no periodontal diseases responded that they have hyperesthesia and 67.6% of periodontal diseases, 39.1% no periodontal diseases responded that they have gingival bleeding. 4. In comparison of the presence of periodontal disease with scaling service program state, it is show that the elderly scaling service program was significant statistically in Elderly's periodontal disease prevention. according to analysis, 52.4% of the subjects with and 34.8% of no periodontal diseases received the Elderly scaling service program(p<0.05). Conclusions : Therefore, oral health care of the elderly, a community public health service the periodic scaling treatment was required to manage periodontal tissue care.

Association between Oral Health and Oral Health-Related Quality of Life among the Elderly (노인 구강건강 수준과 구강건강관련 삶의 질의 관련성)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the association of oral health of the elderly and oral health quality of life. The subjects of this study were 282 participants who received the fluoride application and the scaling service through program targeting elderly people carried out by a public health center located in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. Data were collected from January 2011 to December 2011. The result of comparing subscale scores of quality of life related to oral health depending on socioeconomic characteristics showed that functional limitation scores were lower as educational level got higher. The result of comparing subscale scores of quality of life related to oral health depending on status of oral health and frequency of tooth brushing showed that quality in functional limitations, physical pain, psychological discomfort, physical disability, psychological disability, social disability and handicap scores were lower as the number of cavities got more. The result of multiple regression analysis to identify the factors affecting the quality of life related to oral health showed that the number of cavities and installation of denture were significant variables. The results of this study showed that there was significant association of oral health status and oral health related quality of life of the elderly. In order to maintain the oral health related quality of life, it is important to keep many number of residual teeth even if a person gets older and to support the installation of dentures if necessary.

The effect of oral care program for the elderly women of the Visiting oral health care (방문구강보건사업 여성노인 대상자의 구강관리프로그램 효과)

  • Objectives : This research was conducted to determine the effect of the Visiting Oral Health Care Program by examining the oral health of the elderly women, who are the beneficiaries of this Visiting Oral Care Program. Methods : This research was conducted from November of 2011 to February of 2012, in Chilgok-gun in the Kyeongbuk Province, South Korea. One hundred and twenty five (125) elderly women among the beneficiaries of the Visiting Oral Care Program within the area were randomly selected for the research. The research subjects would regularly visit the area senior citizen center, and they were divided into two groups, with 64 of them belonging to a control group, and the rest (61 people) belonged to a intervention group. The research subjects were examined for their dental health condition, and we investigated the effect of the Visiting Oral Care Program through this research. Results : 1. When they were asked about how many times they wash their dentures, the majority of the control group, 57.4% of them answered that they do it "once" a day. The majority of the intervention group answered "more than 3 times", with 35.2% of group mentioning that they wash their dentures more than 3 times a day(p<.001). 2. When the research subjects were asked to scale their overall quality of life before and after the Visiting Oral Care Program, the control group had rated 49.3 before the Service and 56.8 after the Service (p<.01), and scores for the individual factors to determine the overall quality of life has significantly improved as well (p<.01, p<.01, p<.01, p<.01, p<.01, p<.01, p<.01). 3. The oral hygiene condition after the Visiting Oral Care Program has shown improvement as well. The control group scored 64.2 for the severity of the symptoms of dental plaque before the dental care, and scored 46.8 after the dental care (p<0.1). The control group was diagnosed for the symptoms of coated tongue, and the severity of the symptoms were scaled as 3.7 before the Program and 2.0 after the Program (p<.01). Furthermore, the overall functionality of the oral cavity was improved as well. The control group showed 1.0 time increase in repetitive voluntary swallowing test (p<0.1), increased amount of sublingual saliva from 0.8mm to 1.4mm, and from 1.6mm to 2.0mm in dorsum linguae(p<0.1). Also, the control group showed an improvement in mouth opening as well, increased from 3.9 to 4.0cm after the oral care program (p<.05). When compared the result with the examination after the Visiting Oral Care Program, the two groups showed a significant difference with the control group showing a significant improvement compared to the intervention group(p<.01, p<.01, p<.01, p<.01, p<.05). 4. The correlation between the dental hygiene condition and the functionality of oral was made for the result of examining the beneficiaries for Visiting Oral Care Program. The amount of saliva showed a negative correlation with the severity of dental plaque (p<.05), and a positive correlation with the repetitive voluntary swallowing count (p<0.1). Also, mouth opening showed a positive correlation with repetitive voluntary swallowing count (p<.05). Conclusions : After the Visiting Orall Care Program, the beneficiaries of the program experienced improvement in their quality of life related to oral health, overall oral hygiene and functionality of oral.

A Study on the Influencing Factors of Smoking and Oral Health in Adult Males, and Necessity of Supporting Smoking Cessation in Dental clinics (성인 남성의 구강건강 흡연영향요인과 치과의료기관의 금연지원 필요성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of the study was to analyze smoking impact factors, knowledge about effects of smoking and effects of oral health-related quality of life. The subjects were 165 male dental clinic visitors. The survey was conducted from November to December 2018. The examinations were smoking impact factors, knowledge about effects of smoking on oral health, oral health-related quality of life, and recognition of smoking cessation support in dentistry. Survey data were analyzed using statistical programs of PASW Statistics ver. 18.0. Smoking groups were more stressful than non-smoking groups(13.0, 9.97) and drinking frequency was higher(2/week, 0.96/week)(p<0.05). Smoking had a significant correlation with stress(r= .283, p<0.001) and stress with OHIP(r= -.263, p<0.001). Regression results show that stress and frequency of drinking are significant factors(p<0.05). Smoking cessation support service was recognized by 32.9 %, but experience of service was only 19.4 %. Smoking cessation support of dentistry was answered positively by 65.5 %. The above results reveal the need for stress and drinking control, oral health education, and active support of oral health professionals for smoking cessation.

The Correlation between Conflict Level within the Organization and Job Satisfaction of the Dental Hygienist (치과위생사의 조직 내 갈등수준과 직무만족도간의 관련성)

  • This research was attempted in order to investigate the correlation of the conflict level and job satisfaction of the dental hygienists in the dental clinic agency. The subjects were 249 dental hygienists working with more than five dental hygienists at dental clinics in Daegu, eight dental clinics were randomly chosen, the researcher visited them personally and the data was obtained by self-administrated questionnaires from March 2 to March 31, 2011. In conclusion, the higher ages, monthly income and total career were, the higher levels of conflict were, and job satisfaction was significantly high when monthly income and total career were higher. Correlation between level of conflict and job satisfaction showed as level of conflict are lower, job satisfaction was significantly high. Regression analysis of the factors affecting job satisfaction, it was significantly high as monthly income was higher, friction of view and ignorance was lower. Therefore, the conflict level is reduced, the job satisfaction degree of the dental hygienist is enhanced, the dental hygienist duty efficiency is enhanced and dental service of the good quality is provided.

A Study on the Effects of Perceived Oral Symptoms and Masticatory Performance on the Quality of Life for the Elderly in an Urban Area (대도시 노인의 주관적 구강증상과 저작능력이 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine relations among the subjective oral symptoms, masticatory performance and life quality of aged people residing in some regions of a large city, ultimately providing basic information needed to develop and implement programs oral health project and oral health education programs for the oral health promotion of those people. For the above purpose, this researcher conducted a questionnaire survey of people aged 65 or over from July 14th to 30th, 2011. Among the copies of the questionnaire distributed to the subjects, 318 were recollected. Out the recollected forms, 18 which were deemed as in appropriately filled in were excluded, and the remaining 300 were finally analyzed. The results are as follows. Subjective oral symptoms and masticatory performance have correlation(p<0.001) with aged people's life quality. Factors of influencing life quality were indicated to be gender(p=0.046), age(p=0.008), appearance of living together(<0.001), masticatory performance(p<0.001), and temperature reaction(p=0.018). This study has limitation because of being information that was obtained just with questionnaire survey on subjective oral symptoms. It is considered that there is a need of surveying along with objective data on oral symptoms hereafter.
