  • Fatigue damage of 2.2Ni-1Cr-0.5Mo steel used fir high strength pressure tubes and vessels was evaluated using uniaxial specimens subjected to strain-controlled fatigue loading. Based on the fatigue test results from different strain ratios of -2. -i 0, 0.5, 0.75, the fatigue damage of the steel was represented by using a cyclic strain energy density. Mean stress relaxation depended on the magnitude of the applied strain amplitude. The high pressure vessel steel exhibited the cyclic softening behavior. Total strain energy density consisting of the plastic strain energy density and the elastic tensile strain energy density described fairly well the fatigue life of the steel, taking the mean stress effects into account. Compared to other fatigue damage parameters, fatigue life prediction by the cyclic strain energy density showed a good correlation with the experimental fatigue lift within a factor of 3.

폐경 전 여성의 모유수유기간과 골밀도와의 관련성 연구 (The Relationship of Bone Mineral Densities and Period of Breast feeding in Premenopausal Women)

  • To determine whether personal history of lactation in premenopausal women influence bone mineral density, a cross-sectional study was conducted. One hundred eighty-four premenopausal women were selected from women who had been checked for bone mineral density by dual energy x-ray absortiometry in lumbar spine, femoral neck, Ward's triangle, and trochanteric site at general hospitals in Seoul and Pusan. They completed a questionnaire including life style factors and reproductive history. In the data analysis, Pearson correlation coefficients were used to test any association between individual variables and bone mineral density and a statistical comparisons between long term lactation(>24 months) and short term lactation(<24 months) were made by one way analysis of covariance. The results were summarized as follows: 1) There was no significant difference in the bone mineral density of the lumbar vertebrae in premenopausal women between the long term lactation group(>24months) and the short term lactation group(<24months). 2) There was no significant difference in the bone mineral density of the femur neck, Ward's triangle, and trochanteric site in premenopausal women between the long term lactation group (>24months) and the short term lactation group (<24months). Considering these results, we suggest prospective studies that measure bone mineral density before and after, in addition to those during lactation. We also suggest the further study with premenopausal women less than 35 who have achieved peak adult bone mass.

Ferroelectric ultra high-density data storage based on scanning nonlinear dielectric microscopy

  • Nano-sized inverted domain dots in ferroelectric materials have potential application in ultrahigh-density rewritable data storage systems. Herein, a data storage system is presented based on scanning non-linear dielectric microscopy and a thin film of ferroelectric single-crystal lithium tantalite. Through domain engineering, we succeeded to form an smallest artificial nano-domain single dot of 5.1 nm in diameter and artificial nano-domain dot-array with a memory density of 10.1 Tbit/$inch^2$ and a bit spacing of 8.0 nm, representing the highest memory density for rewritable data storage reported to date. Sub-nanosecond (500psec) domain switching speed also has been achieved. Next, long term retention characteristic of data with inverted domain dots is investigated by conducting heat treatment test. Obtained life time of inverted dot with the radius of 50nm was 16.9 years at $80^{\circ}C$. Finally, actual information storage with low bit error and high memory density was performed. A bit error ratio of less than $1\times10^{-4}$ was achieved at an areal density of 258 Gbit/inch2. Moreover, actual information storage is demonstrated at a density of 1 Tbit/$inch^2$.

Estimation of the Nuclear Power Peaking Factor Using In-core Sensor Signals

  • The local power density should be estimated accurately to prevent fuel rod melting. The local power density at the hottest part of a hot fuel rod, which is described by the power peaking factor, is more important information than the local power density at any other position in a reactor core. Therefore, in this work, the power peaking factor, which is defined as the highest local power density to the average power density in a reactor core, is estimated by fuzzy neural networks using numerous measured signals of the reactor coolant system. The fuzzy neural networks are trained using a training data set and are verified with another test data set. They are then applied to the first fuel cycle of Yonggwang nuclear power plant unit 3. The estimation accuracy of the power peaking factor is 0.45% based on the relative $2_{\sigma}$ error by using the fuzzy neural networks without the in-core neutron flux sensors signals input. A value of 0.23% is obtained with the in-core neutron flux sensors signals, which is sufficiently accurate for use in local power density monitoring.

Identification of the associations between genes and quantitative traits using entropy-based kernel density estimation

  • Genetic associations have been quantified using a number of statistical measures. Entropy-based mutual information may be one of the more direct ways of estimating the association, in the sense that it does not depend on the parametrization. For this purpose, both the entropy and conditional entropy of the phenotype distribution should be obtained. Quantitative traits, however, do not usually allow an exact evaluation of entropy. The estimation of entropy needs a probability density function, which can be approximated by kernel density estimation. We have investigated the proper sequence of procedures for combining the kernel density estimation and entropy estimation with a probability density function in order to calculate mutual information. Genotypes and their interactions were constructed to set the conditions for conditional entropy. Extensive simulation data created using three types of generating functions were analyzed using two different kernels as well as two types of multifactor dimensionality reduction and another probability density approximation method called m-spacing. The statistical power in terms of correct detection rates was compared. Using kernels was found to be most useful when the trait distributions were more complex than simple normal or gamma distributions. A full-scale genomic dataset was explored to identify associations using the 2-h oral glucose tolerance test results and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase levels as phenotypes. Clearly distinguishable single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and interacting SNP pairs associated with these phenotypes were found and listed with empirical p-values.

니켈 표면처리공정에서 전류밀도 효과분석 (Effect of Current Density on Nickel Surface Treatment Process)

  • 니켈 표면처리 공정에서 전류밀도에 따라 니켈의 전착두께가 증가되었으며, 증가폭은 $6{\sim}10A/dm^2$에서 저전류보다 높게 나타났다. 전류밀도를 측정하기 위해 Hull-cell 분석을 수행 하였다. 최적 공정온도는 $60^{\circ}C$, pH는 3.5~4.0이었고, 전해용액 중 니켈이온의 농도는 300 g/L 이상에서 농도에 따라 전착두께가 증가되었다. 전류밀도에 따라 용액 중 니켈이온 감소 속도가 증가되었는데, 이는 음극표면에서 니켈 전착 량에 따른 전착두께의 증가를 나타낸다. 그러나 전착속도가 빠를 경우 니켈 전착 층의 치밀성은 저하되며, 표면의 상태는 불규칙하게 변화된다. 니켈이온의 전착과정이 불규칙하게 일어나 조직의 pin hole 등을 야기해 표면특성을 저하시키는 것으로 확인되었다. 광택니켈 전착 후 25 h 내식을 유지한 결과, 낮은 전류밀도를 유지하는 것이 내식특성이 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 프로그램모사 결과, 전류밀도가 높아질수록 확산 층의 두께는 증가하며, 음극표면의 농도는 낮아진다. 농도분포는 낮은 전류밀도에서 고른 분포를 나타내었으며 이는 일정한 전착두께를 예측할 수 있다. 생산성 저하를 예방하기 위해 공정시간은 크게 변화시키지 않았으며, 전류밀도와 전착두께를 변화시키면서 공정변수를 조절하였다. 본 연구의 표면분석 결과 조직특성이나 내식성 등의 표면 물성이 낮은 전류밀도를 사용할 경우에 더욱 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

성인의 골밀도와 잔존치아수와의 관련성 (Relationship between bone mineral density and the remaining teeth in Korean adults)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between bone mineral density and remaining teeth in Korean adults. Methods: Using National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHANES) 5th Year 1(2010), 1,985 adults over 50 years old having bone mineral density test were selected. Male adults were 883, and female adults were 1,102. The raw data consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, bone density data, and oral examination data. The questionnaire consisted of general health survey, laboratory examination study, and nutrition study. Data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program for multiple regression analysis, ANOVA, t-test. The variables included general characteristics of the subjects, health behavior, diet habit, and oral health behavior. General characteristics consisted of gender, age, residence area, education level, marital status, monthly income, and vocation. Health behavior consisted of smoking, alcohol drinking, body mass index(BMI), physical activity, and mental health. Diet habit consisted of frequency of meal, milk, coffee, and calcium ingestion. Oral health behavior consisted of frequency of tooth brushing, use of oral health care devices, and oral examination. Systemic diseases were measured by the questionnaire for hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and hyperlipidemia. Bone density was measured in T-score of femoral bone, neck of femur, and lumbar vertebrae. Bone density was classified into normal($T-score{\geq}-1.0$), osteopenia(-2.5 < T-score < -1.0), and osteoporosis ($T-score{\leq}-2.5$). The remaining teeth were measured by the differences between normal teeth and missing teeth. Results: Smoking and age are the most influencing factors on the number of remaining teeth and bone density(p<0.01)(p<0.05). Those who had higher bone density, younger age, and nonsmoker significantly had more remaining teeth. Those who were men, diabetic, lowly educated women, and low birth weighted persons tended to have less number of teeth(p<0.01). Conclusions: The study suggested that there were significant differences between men and women according to the oral health management behavior and systemic disease control. Proper management of the oral health and good quality of bone mineral density can reserve the remaining teeth through the whole life.

상대밀도와 세립분 함유율이 현장타설말뚝의 인발저항 성능에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (Effect of Relative Density and Fines Content on Pullout Resistance Performance of Drilled Shafts)

  • 본 연구에서는 상대밀도와 세립분 함유율이 현장타설말뚝의 인발저항 성능에 미치는 영향을 평가하기 위하여, 다양한 상대밀도 및 세립분 함유율 조건에 대한 직접전단시험 및 모형말뚝 인발실험을 수행하였다. 직접전단시험으로부터 세립분 함유율에 따른 내부마찰각과 점착력의 변화특성을 정량적으로 파악할 수 있었으며, 인발실험 결과에서는 말뚝의 인발저항 성능에 미치는 상대밀도와 세립분 함유율의 영향을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 두 실험 결과를 비교 분석한 결과, 말뚝의 인발저항 성능에 대한 지반의 내부마찰각과 점착력의 기여도는 세립분 함유율 약 13%를 전후로 하여 서로 다르게 나타남을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 현장타설말뚝 설계 시 수행되는 마찰저항 성능 평가는 지반의 세립분 함유율에 따른 강도정수($c-{\phi}$)를 고려해야 할 것으로 평가되었다.

화강암질 풍화토의 파쇄성에 관한 연구 (The study on the Crushability of Weathered Cranite Soils)

  • The weathered granite soil involves problems in its stability in soil structures depending upon the reduction of soil strength due to the water absorption, crushability, and content of colored mineral and feldspar. As an attemt to solve the problems associated with soil stability, the crushability of weathered granite soil was investigated by conducting tests such as compaction test, CBR test, unconfined compression test, direct shear test, triaxial compression test, and permeability test on the five soil samples different in weathering and mineral compositions. The experimental results are summarized as follows: The ratio of increasing dry density in the weathered granite soil was high as the compaction energy was low, while it was low as the compaction energy was increased. The unconfined compressive strength. and CBR value were highest in the dry side rather than in the soil with the optimum moisture content, when the soil was compacted by adjusting water content. However, the unconfined compressive strength of smples, which were compacted and oven dried, were highest in the wet side rather than in soil with the optimum moisture content. As the soil becomes coarse grain, the ratio of specific surface area increased due to increased crushability, and the increasing ratio of the specific surface area decreased as the compaction energy was increased. The highest ratio of grain crushability was attained in the wet side rather than in the soil with the optimum moisture content. Such tendency was transforming to the dry side as the compaction energy was increased. The effect of water on the grain crushability of soil was high in the coarse grained soil. The specific surface area of WK soil sample, when compacted under the condition of air dried and under the optimum moisture content, was constant regardless of the compaction energy. When the weathered granite soil and river sand with the same grain size were compacted with low compaction energy, the weathered granite soil with crushability had higher dry density than river sand. However, when the compaction energy reached to certain point over limitation, the river sand had higher dry density than the weathered granite soil. The coefficient of permeability was lowest in the wet side rather than in the optimum moisture content, when the soil was compacted by adjusting soil water content. The reduction of permeability of soil due to the compaction was more apparent in the weathered granite soil than in the river sand. The highly significant correlation coefficient was obtained between the amount of particle breakage and dry density of the compacted soil.

소아의 골밀도에 관한 연구 (A Study of Bone Mineral Density in Children)

  • Objectives : Osteoporosis is generally occurred in old age, especially postmenopausal women therefore, it is relatively overlook osteoporosis in children, but the authors have paid attention to bone density in children because maximizing peak bone mass of childhood is advocated as a way to prevent osteoporosis and environmental factor of childhood play role in the regulation of bone density. the present study was performed to measure bone density of children and to assess the influence of age, sex, body size, exercise, weak symptoms on bone density during the period of bone growth. Methods : We have measured bone density of calcaneus bone in 283 children (male 144 female 139, ranged from3 to 18) who visited in growth clinic of Pediatrics, Dongguk University Bundang Oriental Hospital, using quantitative ultra sound densitometry and they were divided into 3 groups by age(3-10, 11-15, 15-18 years). Pearson's correlation was used to assessed the influence of age, body size and Student's t-test was used to detect differences in sex, exercise, weak symptoms between the groups on bone density Results : The bone density correlated with age, height, weight, body mass index in this study. Bone density were significantly higher in males than in female. Digestive weak children's bone density were lower than normal children. Conclusion : Weight-bearing exercise and food rich in nutrition are necessary to increase maximizing peak bone mass in children.
