Parenting Efficacy, Parenting Stress and Knowledge Level and Demand of Parent Education for Adolescents' Mother (청소년 자녀를 둔 어머니의 양육효능감 및 양육스트레스와 부모교육 지식수준 및 요구도)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the reality of the demand for parent education by mothers of adolescents based on their knowledge of raising a child, related to parenting efficacy and parenting stress. Mothers of 207 middle school adolescents completed questionnaires. Instruments included scales on demand for parent education (Lee, 1995 and Byun, 1999), parenting efficacy (Gibaud-Wallston & Wandersman, 1978), and parenting stress (Kim, 2004 Abidin, 1990). Results showed mothers high in knowledge of parenting had higher parenting efficacy and less parenting stress mothers high in maternalanxiety expressed higher demand for parenting understanding and improvement and for their children's academic adjustment; and mothers with higher maternal parenting stress expressed higher demand for parenting education.

A Study on the Curriculum Development for the Professional Hospice Nurse in Korea (한국 호스피스 전문간호사 교육과정 개발을 위한 기초조사)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the first domestic professional hospice educational program. We investigated the present condition of Korean hospice education and analyzed the prerequisite need for a dedicated hospice course in the professional education process. Research was conducted between June and November 1996 for nursing professors teaching at each nursing education institute to find out how much hospice is being discussed and by whom, in which course it is being discussed, and also to find out the contents that needed to be included in the professional education process. From a total of 49 colleges(29 three year colleges, 20 four year colleges) out of 99, 162 nursing professors replied, the collection rate was 49.5%. The conclusions are as follows ; 1. The present condition of the hospice nursing education. 1) Whether hospice is included in the education program. \circled1 89.65% of 3 year colleges and 90% of 4 year colleges included hospice education in their education program. \circled2 In graduate studies three schools included hospice in their program and three schools expressed their plans to include hospice education 2) Hospice related education were commonly discussed in adult nursing(26.3%), fundamental nursing(22.8%), and psychiatric nursing(20.2%). In 3 year colleges its commonly discussed in the first and second year and in 4 year colleges it is taught in the second and third year. 3) Hospice related theory/practical education hours were averages of 6.5/7.0 hrs in 3 year colleges and 14.2/11.3 hrs in 4 year colleges. 4) The majority of professors in charge of hospice education were in the following order adult nursing, psychiatric nursing, and fundamental nursing. 5) The courses that are thought to be adequate to manage hospice related education were adult nursing(29.3%), community health nursing(21.7%) and the desired method of education was the method currently being used (36.5%). 2. The demand for hospice nursing education. 1) Over 70% demanded professional hospice education program, the highest demand was for the value and meaning of life followed by the role and qualification of the hospice team and the mental maintenance of a dying patient. 25 categories showed over 90% demand. 2) The highest demand was for the value and meaning of life (98.2%) and the lowest demand were for danjeon breathing(71.0%)and acupuncture(71.0%). 3) Other contents that need to be discussed in the professional hospice education program were hospice nursing, the attitude and reaction of death, bereavement care, and the prospects of hospice.

  • The growth of the fashionable hanbok market has led to a significant increase in the number of entrepreneurs or prospective entrepreneurs with small hanbok businesses. To develop the hanbok industry, the public sector is developing and providing education and support programs to enhance the competencies of individual hanbok brand entrepreneurs. This study conducted a survey of 213 subjects such as business operators, workers, and prospective workers in the changing hanbok industry. This study investigated their hanbok education experiences as well as future demands for education and public support programs. To explore differences based on individual characteristics, this study measured such characteristics using entrepreneurial orientation as well as the artistic and entrepreneurial competencies important in running a hanbok brand and analyzed the relationship demand for education and public support. Hanbok brand worker characteristics were classified into four groups based on individual characteristics: "traditionalist," "entrepreneur," "opportunist," and "businessman." Differences existed in terms of detailed education experience and demand as well as demand for public support, depending on the group. The results of this study contribute to development of hanbok curriculums that consider individual characteristics, the effective incubation of new and prospective hanbok brand entrepreneurs, as well as the research on founding small-scale fashion businesses.

Salary and Wage Earners's Households' Perceptions on the Eating-out (외식에 대한 근로자 가구의 인식)

  • Korean households' expenditures on foodservices are on the steady increase. This paper aims to examine the foodservice expenditures of salary and wage earners's households by income decile group. This is analysed through comparing foodservice expenditures with private education expenditures because households' expenditures are likely to be weighted in favor of eating-out rather than private education. We also model the consumption function in terms of income and price, examining the responsiveness of private education demand and eating-out demand to changes in income and price using econometric methods such as regression, rolling regression and impulse response. This paper show that foodservice demand increases more than the private education does in the long-run. The result indicates that households are likely to evaluate the desire for foodservice more important than private education contrary to our expectations in the long-run. The impulse response analysis, however, suggests that households tend to increase private education expenditures rather than eating-out expenditures in the short-run.

Safety education needs among the dental technology-major college students to prevent injuries in their laboratory classes (치기공과 학생들의 실습 중 안전에 대한 안전교육 요구도 특성)

  • This study purposed to offer basic data for safety education of the dental laboratory technology after the investigation of how much the students in the dept. of dental laboratory technology are aware of the danger of each instrument, equipment or laboratory procedure that they use during laboratory and how much they demand safety education for this. The objects for this study were 423 students who were in the dept. of dental laboratory technology. In this regard, four colleges which have the dept. of dental laboratory technology were randomly selected to do a questionnaire survey. SPSS 12.0 was used to analyze the collected data. The results were as follows: As for satisfaction with their major, the respondents answered Satisfied (59.1%), Average (35.5%) and Dissatisfied (5.4%). In terms of the production process of a partial denture, they considered casting, polishing the casting body, polishing denture and burn out were most dangerous in order. As for the production process of a full denture, what they regarded as the most dangerous in order was polishing denture, deflasking and wax wash. Regarding the laboratory procedures of porcelain material, casting, trimming casting body, polishing porcelain material and burn out were the most dangerous procedures that they perceived. With regard to materials for use, alcohol, polishing, metal and wire were the most dangerous ones they thought. As for the handling characteristics of each material, small towns showed a higher demand for safety of the handling characteristics of alcohol. In terms of school year and sex, juniors and girls had higher scores in the demand for safety of the handling characteristics of acid. Regarding the handling characteristics of each equipment and instrument, all of small towns, juniors and girls showed the highest demand for safety of the handling characteristics of alcohol lamps. With regard to scores in the demand for safety of other characteristics, all of small towns, juniors and girls had the highest demand for safety of emergency treatment. Concerning the demand for safety education by the completion of safety education, in terms of each material, highest was the demand for safety of acid from the group which completed safety education. In regard to equipments and instruments, when it came to the demand for safety of the handling characteristics of casting machine, the educated group's demand for safety of acid was higher. Regarding other characteristics, the group which was not educated gained higher scores in the demand for safety of emergency treatment. 11. In all areas(materials, machines and others), small towns, girls and juniors showed higher scores in the demand for safety. Based on the above results, it was found that when students conduct the laboratory of dental technology, they would think that many materials, instruments or equipments for use are very dangerous. However, safety education was not fully given to them. Regarding the scores in the damned for safety education, the highest was 4.16 and the lowest was 3.43, which suggests that the scores were generally very high. In this regard, it is necessary to continue delivering a systematic safety education of materials, equipments or instruments used during the laboratory of dental technology. Therefore, through the analysis of each material, instruments or facility used in every laboratory and each process, safety accident types and accident risk factors should be investigated to develop educational materials for this. Moreover, it is required to open safety education as a single course of study or insert safety contents of all materials and machines into the class of dental laboratory instrument or dental materials for the purpose of a systematic and thorough safety education to prevent a safety accident during laboratory.

  • Considering the present and expected demand for human resources by the maritime community, its quantity and quality depend on the number of the ships and the technology applied to them. Scientific and economic developments in this community bring the intensive use of modem technology for many of ships operation. Generally it effects to reduce the quantity of manpower, while it increases the requirement of qualifications of human resources to utilize such advanced technology. Considering above, the maritime education, training and research activities should be revised and updated according to the demand of the community. Because of a difference between the transition of the demand for the human resources and development of the maritime education, training and research activities, there are two most common questions as “What to teach” and “How to teach”. The first question has been asked for many years. The contents of maritime education and training are always related to the existing maritime knowledge and technology and should be updated with consideration of changes of the demand namely “Globalisation of maritime community”. It brings globalisation of the maritime education, training and research activities. The second question is still keeping us busy to look for the best way. Presently traditional methods are used together with new system, while the use of sophisticated simulation, communication and information systems etc. and it is changing our understanding on teaching. This paper introduces the new role of Maritime Institutions from the viewpoints of the maritime education. training and research activities. The role of guide for seafarers and maritime companies is always essential and the concepts such as “Refreshment Training”, “On the Job Training”, “Lifelong” or “Continuous Training” bring new understanding to the training period, trainee's age and position. As a result, the maritime institutions should be ready for their new role, which is, in brief, guiding the maritime society, recommending and providing new learning environments, organising research and developments, performing the education, training and assessment, improving existing methods and developing new methods of the education, training and assessment.

  • This study had been done to investigate that early childhood teacher's recognition and demand on children's language education and 20 early childhood teachers were interviewed individually who work at state-owned/ public-owned/ private-owned kindergardens residing G, I, and K cities in Jeollabuk-do. First, the purpose of language education was recognized on the formations of essence, concept, expertise, technique and attitude toward language. Second, the contents of language education must be selected by children's experience that they encounter in ordinary life based on oral language and written language. Besides, early childhood teachers strongly felt the necessity of new contents of language education, although they thought of insufficiency of their knowledge on the issue. Third, the method of language education was mainly accomplished by teaching material and objects. Besides, they were aware of looking for new organized teaching methods and also concerned of the importances of teacher's attitude and group formation method. Fourth, the evaluation of language education must be acquired by desirable evaluation method that was based on the recognition of children's unrealistic language capabilities, even though they had recognized the difficulty to do because of knowledge insufficiency. They also showed the tendency of negligence on the evaluation of language education. Fifth, the required facts for early childhood teachers on language education were development and supply of teaching materials, demand on teacher's education and appropriate evaluation method, and cognitive changes on language education by public toward the written language.

Analysis of Correlation between Students' Cognitive Level and Cognitive Demand of Activities in 'Mirror and Shadow' Unit ('거울과 그림자' 단원 수업 활동의 인지요구도와 학생의 인지수준과의 관계 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is comparing cognitive development of elementary $4^{th}$ graders and cognitive demand of activities in lesson 'The mirror and the shadow.' Also, the researchers tried to reveal how cognitive development of elementary $4^{th}$ graders and cognitive demand of textbook activities affects the achievement of students. To study students' cognitive development, the researchers use GALT(Group Assessment of Logical Thinking). Piaget's scientific thinking is used to evaluate cognitive demand of textbook activities. With several experts in science education the researchers discussed which scientific thinking is contained in each activities. The results were followed as : (1) The third of activities are significantly affected by students' cognitive development. (2) The another third of activities are influenced by not only students' cognitive development but also other factors experimental instrument. (3) The environmental factors had meaningful impact on the other third of activities.
